The Golf Cart Thread

can I get by, for testing at least, with 3 12-v? I could get start a lot cheaper, and I could uncouple the batts and use my existing charger. I know I won't get much run time, but enough?
!

After doing ALOT of surfing for information on this, it looks like ( at least for a 48v ) if you don't expect massive run time that 125 AH deep cycle batteries will work. I don't think you could run wide open forever but, I think for our use ( Fort only ) that this is what I am going to put in.I was wanting to go with 12v batts to free up some under the seat room.

Ideal,,,no,,,,,useable,,,it would appear so.
Just make sure you go with Deep Cycle not a regular car battery, there is a HUGE difference. Lower AH ( amp hour ) might make it not as good an Idea.

Wally world has these for around 80 each.

Yeah, that's my thought as well. If I could get even 90 minutes of run time I'd be set. BTW Mike, did you check the video link? Very cool, methinks.

Oh, an aside... I think I'll have to do this at some point. It would be so cool to "float" up and then drop onto the sleigh skids!

Wow...that guy has done some nice work...the air shocks are a sweet touch Ive never even thought of. Nice find Shan!!:thumbsup2

Okay guys, another question... I know that ideally for a 36v cart you want 6 6-volt gel cells, but can I get by, for testing at least, with 3 12-v? I could get start a lot cheaper, and I could uncouple the batts and use my existing charger. I know I won't get much run time, but enough?

!

So does that mean you bought the cart(s)??

No, Mary had a conniption fit when I suggested I wanted a new project! I guess I need to wait until we have moved into the new master suite before suggesting it again! Hate to pass up such a good deal though.

You just don't understand men at all, do ya Jen?

You can never make a minivan, a crock pot, or a dining room set this cool....

My wife just doesn't understand!:rotfl:

All I'm interested in is the lift, no hopping. Four inches would be perfect for my uses. Actually, I'm thinking a high, soft (almost springy) ride, to simulate floating, and then the hydros/pnuematics would draw down the suspension until the skids hit the ground. I like this idea because it could be done with just an air tank on board, no compressor, and when I run out of pressure I can just release the valve and the cart would rise and still be useable... whole lot better than being grounded somewhere! The best thing about a pipe dream (no opium involved) is that changes are easy, and there is plenty of time to revise your plans!

Shan, do you just want us to get you a one way flight to the north pole? Oh I forgot, the reindeer will come pick you up lol.

Whats everyone thoughts on leaving the roof on a cart while hauling it in the back of a truck ? Are they sturdy enough to handle a round trip in excess of 2000 miles ?

I think so Scott, but there's only 4 little bolts holding it on so it would take little time to take it off and throw it in the camper.

I took my cart to FW on a swivel wheel behind my old 5er with no problem as far as the top goes. We left it on. But most people say remove it.

We always haul ours with the top on. Just remember, the cart must face forward, the windshield must be folded down, and any seat covers that aren't permanently attached must be removed.

Also, make sure the cart is securely anchored if you don't have a long bed truck where you can close the tailgate behind the cart or if you don't use a trailer. We have hauled our cart from Atlanta to FW at least a dozen times and never had a problem following these guidelines.
