Have you read it? What were your impressions?

I just finished reading the book and it was an incredible story. Sad, but inspiring.

I'm going to an author lecture tonight, which is why I wanted to read it so fast. :)

I read it and fell in love with the book, and went around recommending it to anyone that would listen.

So very interesting. Good story about hope, and how the kids view parents, with wide eyes and innocence. Beautiful story.

I read it many years ago so my memory sort of fails me on the details. I remember thinking that her parents were just awful.

My son is a senior and was required to read it. When he finished I read it and really enjoyed it.

A friend gave it to me and I read the first couple of chapters and had to put it down because it disturbed me so much. She nagged me into finishing it and I'm glad she did because it really is a very interesting book.

Enjoy the author lecture!

One of my favorite books.

Jeannette Walls is lecturing? That ought to be interesting!

True, the parents are not good parents, but from her eyes, as a child, she doesn't view it in that manor. She sees their dreams, and loves them, because they are her parents.

It is very interesting. A new way to think about that sort of situation.

It is kind of a hard book to describe.
I read it and it disturbed me so much I put it in the donation box the next week.

I remember becoming really obsessed with wanting to know what happened to the youngest sister. I was really worried about her, to the point I became a stalker. I was Googling her name and trying to find her. I did come up with an address in California (I swear I never contacted her) and an interview with the author that stated one of the most often asked questions of her was how the youngest sister was doing now and she wanted to reassure everybody that the sister was ok. I left it at that.

I'm not sure how the kids really felt about the parents. Kind of a "they are what they are and what are you going to do?" attitude, but there is also loads of resentment there. Still, after her Father died the author did take her Mother into her home to live. I think her brother felt much more negativity towards the parents and what they put their children through than any of the girls.

It was a great lecture! Uplifting, positive story. She said that she always knew that her parents loved her and that holding on to bitterness hurts the person who's holding on to those negative feelings. She updated on all of her siblings and said that her younger sister is doing ok, but she hasn't done as well as the other siblings. She's obviously trying to protect her privacy, which I respect (but I am very curious). The brother is now a 9th grade teacher (I think she said 9th grade) and his daughter was in the audience.

It took me several times of picking it up before I actually finished it. Once I got past the first 50 pages, it had me hooked. Sometimes you just need to be in the right place to be able to read certain books. A MUST read! She writes so eloquently as well. One of my top favorite books to date!
