The future of airline seating!

The concept of airline standing is old. It was shown as a proof of concept.

The intended use is for emergency evacuation. Also proposed for short flights, island to island and island to mainland.

People stand on buses and trains. Standing on 45 minute flight isn't that much different.

AFAIK the concept was never seriously considered by any airline.

It hasn't been seriously considered by any airline, just yet. The post was meant to be a bit on the humorous side and it is, but sadly with the inflation of greed within every company known to man now, there's gonna be some airlines that will try and push that envelope.

Yes a few years ago it was a concept and I think it was specifically Ryan air that talked about it.

The idea is for flights less than two hours and TBH it might be more comfortable than the Ryan air seats.
Problem is there is already no overhead space on Ryan air flights - that will only be worse with these seats - you may not even get a carry on with these seats. So they will make up the money with fees - like they do in general.

I stopped flying Ryan air a few years ago - and unless its the only option - like in Shannon - I avoid it. Aer Lingus is not much better - but it is slightly better.

Anyway - even Ryan Air has stated they have no immediate plans for this - but they like to comment on these things and get free press. Everyone hates Ryan air yet still flies with them and any time they get free publicity they will. The CEO loves controversy.

I've seen this photo floating around for years, but I don't think any airlines have seriously considered them.

There was an interview with a Ryanair exec where they claimed standing room on flights are just as safe as seats and would allow them to sell cheaper tickets, but I'm skeptical, especially with how Ryanair lands their planes.
