the fox has had kitts!!!

This is pretty cool,, haven't seen the wolf around for two weeks so I feel a great deal better about the fox.. I have noticed that a fox is sitting above the den a great deal of the time lately but it looks smaller that the original fox- after researching it I have decided it is the male (dog) that once kitts are born he is not allowed in the den for a month- he guards the den and gets food for the family. After he left today the mama fox (much bigger with black legs) was out and about on the top of the den.. I thought she had a jack rabbit or something as I saw something greyish black that she kept grabbing with her mouth.. she pushed it towards the den opening but then it ran around! It was a kitt, they must have just been born within the last few weeks. I saw another but mama kept pushing them back down into the hole,., I have my camcorder in the study (where the best view is ) and have been taping this for days now... I will have quite the documentary when done.. In the meantime I have told mike to stay out of the back yard so the foxes don't get protective of their young. (the den is at the most 50 feet from our deck probably more like 25-30) poor kid, the side yard is off limits because of the sand wasp nests I found this morning.. so he can only play in the front yard...yup I live on wild kingdom!

So far I have only been able to get close enough with the cam corder on zoom... the foxes are constantly watching and I am a bit afraid to get too close and make them feel threatend.
