The Force Awakens SPOILER thread

I saw it this morning. I managed to avoid seeing or hearing any spoilers before seeing it and I didn't realize that Harrison Ford was only doing the first movie. I'm glad I didn't know any of this going into it, although when he was walking across the bridge to confront his son I was pretty sure that was the end of him.

I thought the new actors did a great job and was happy to see a strong female lead. I thought Carrie Fisher was the weak link unfortunately - what happened to all the spunk she showed in the originals?

Also... haven't seen anyone mention this, but I didn't like that the guy from Felicity and Alias was in it. It just took away from those scenes for me - like, wait a second, he doesn't belong here! lol I know both of those shows were done by JJ Abrams and I'm sure that's how he got the part, but it was kind of like if Jennifer Garner had popped up in a scene. Took me out of the movie for a bit.

All in all, I loved it and am planning to see it again after Christmas with my parents who haven't seen it yet. We're planning to rewatch the original three before we go.

- I think the biggest laugh in the theater was when Chewie complained about being cold! ha, loved that part and all of the humor added throughout the movie.

Are you talking about Greg Grunberg? I love him and thought it was great to see him in it lol.

Just googled him - yep! I love him too but seeing him in Star Wars was just weird to me, lol.

JJ Abrams has been friends with Greg Grunberg since Kindergarten. He is in all his movies in some way or another.

Figured it was something like that. It just took me out of the movie for a moment when I saw him, that's all. I like that they used mostly unknown actors for the other parts - except the original actors of course.

Maybe they should have covered him in makeup like Simon Pegg lol. Judah Friedlander was also in it and apparently Bill Hader consulted on BB*'s "voice".

I do agree about Carrie Fisher. She played the part like Carrie Fisher and not Princess Leia. Kind of phoning it in.

Not sure who any of those actors are - back to google! Alias dude was the only one who stood out to me.

What?? You don't know Simon Pegg? ***faint***

There was also Ken Leung (another bit part guy from JJ Abrams club). I wish I would have know that Daniel Craig was under te trooper mask in that one scene at the time...would have made it way more hilarious.

As crushed as I am about Han, I am SO relieved that it wasn't Chewie who bought it.

So Rey is Luke's kid right? What is UP with that family abandoning their kids on desert planets?? It doesn't seem to be working out so well LOL.

I thought Finn was the whiner for the first 3/4 of the movie. But I really liked Rey and JJ giving us a strong female...and a Jedi! I wanted to yell at Kylo Ren to leave his mask on. ALL his "menace" is gone the second he takes that mask off...he looked like Andy Samberg LOL!

Overall I was pleased with it and look forward to the continuation of the saga. It felt like getting together with old friends while making some new ones.

**note to bad guys...STOP TRYING TO MAKE A GIANT WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION! It clearly isn;t working. or at least stop building them with a gigantic exploitable weak spot.
We saw it today - had a great time!

At first, I figured Rey was going to end up being Han and Leia's daughter, twin to the son who went bad (and was trying to figure out how that would be explained). But then after we left, DS speculated that maybe she's Luke's, and I started to think that made more sense. After reading both sides here, I'm torn now on which to predict.

I liked the new robot, and the bar owner. I also got a kick out of the little touches (especially lines) thrown in from the original.
I think Rey is Han and Leia's daughter, and that they left her on Jakku to remove, hide, protect her from evil brother Ben. I think Han and Leia hadn't seen her since she was a toddler but the scene in the Falcon when Rey is next to Han, he knows it is her when she bypassed the compressor. I don't think she is Luke's because the ways of the Jedi are forbidden from romantic love and family. Also when Han is talking to Maz Kanata and she says, "tell me about the girl" ~ Han comes clean that she is his daughter. That's my guess.

That guy did look familiar but I still can't figure out what else I've seen him in. I had no clue that was Daniel Craig under the trooper mask - that's pretty funny!

Perhaps...but I think another "forbidden" Jedi romance, like the one Anakin and Padme had, would be nice...for Luke. Or maybe she's Obi Wan's granddaughter. JJ certainly gave Rian Johnson plenty to work with on number 8!

I assumed JJ Abrams would be directing all three movies. Learning a lot on this thread. I don't like the idea of changing directors - seems like it'll mess with the flow of the series. Plus I love pretty much everything that JJ Abrams does!

Anikan married Padme.

No John Williams doing the score either for the next movies...that's right up there with the death of Han Solo for me.

Perhaps Luke didn't consider himself a Jedi when he left and hid - so perhaps Rey is his. Or Han had an affair or whatever when he left Leia, etc.

I thought Leia was played well - she's battle weary, heartbroken her son is on the dark side, Han has left, etc. She sounded beaten down and barely holding it together, trying to cover it all in the professional/royal mantle.

Adam Driver was a nasty choice for Kylo Ren, IMO. For goodness sakes, fix the teeth! I guess they don't have dentists long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away?

She'd have to be Han and Leia's daughter for it to make any sense, not just Han's. It's the Skywalker genes that would make her a Jedi.

George Lucas didn't direct all 3 of the original trilogy either. Irvin Kirshner directed Empire and Richard Marquand directed Jedi.
