The food report that almost didn't happen but I figured better late than never (m)

The next day our plan was to have breakfast at Kona Cafe as my friend wanted to try the Tonga Toast and then, spend the afternoon at the waterpark followed by dinner at Hoop Dee Doo. Since, we were staying at BCV we decided to walk through Epcot and then, take the monorail over to Transportation Center and then, take the monorail to the Polynesian. We lucked out because from the TTC to Polynesian there was room for us to sit in the front with the driver (little did we know a few days later that isn't always a good idea). Anyways... there were 7 of us so, only 4 could go in the front so, my dh went with the 3 kids. They were beaming during the ride:

Our breakfast at Kona was good. I'm not sure if I'd trek across a park to get here. If I was staying nearby yes but not if I was staying elsewhere. My friend had a little difficulty understanding that things are far away and you could spend an hour just trying to get somewhere.

We all ordered OJ:

Oh... sorry the picture quality is poor. I'm using my waterproof camera.

Here is an order of Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes with sausage:

Here's the tonga Toast:

My friend and I split the Tonga Toast & Pancakes. She did not like the Tonga Toast said it was too sweet. I liked it especially with the strawberry sauce. I thought the Tonga Toast was cooked to perfection as it wasn't overly greasy as I've had in the past. She loved the pancakes but I thought they were VERY dry. They had definitely been sitting out. Even with the pineapple topping it was still too dry for my tastes.

Both of the Dads & friend's son ordered the Big Kahuna. Good breakfast with a lot of food. Seriously, it would be hard thing to screw up. My dh's pancake was definitely better than mine:

The service here is quick and the food is good. Definitely, come here again. Also, I felt weird taking pictures of my friend's family food. They have no clue what DIS is and didn't understand why my family would wait for me to take pictures of the food. I didn't want to explain food porn to them. LOL....

Next, we were leaving to go to the waterpark and I discovered that my sunglasses broke. The screw became loose and was missing. I cannot see without them. My eyes are way too senstive to Florida sunlight. So, I sent the family off to the waterpark to catch up with them later. I went to the hotel front desk to see if they could fix them but they didn't have the right size screw. So, I ended up hailing a cab to take me to LensCrafters where I got the sunglasses. It was not very convenient location. But I got my glasses fixed and asked the driver to drive me to the water park. But when I got to the waterpark I realized I left my cell phone at LensCrafters. So, I was deciding what to do and decided I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a new phone. So, I took another cab ride back to LensCrafters. However, on the way back it started raining CATS & DOGS and I decided the waterpark was not in the cards for me today. The kids had a great time. And, I'm bummed I missed it but I felt I spent enough in cab fare that I didn't need to spend more at the waterpark. What an expensive lesson. Anyways... I didn't eat lunch since, Hoop Dee Doo was coming up next!

Man, what a pain in the butt about your sunglasses/cell phone! I had my glasses break at DL once, and luckily the conceirge at the Grand Californian had an eye glasses repair kit and she used to work at an optomitrist's office! Phew!

Those breakfasts at Kona look scrumptious. We have an ADR for there, but we switched our plans and now it's not going to work. Might have to try and get there another day.

Can't wait to read more! Yes, I'm looking forward to our trip- only a few more days! It's just been an awful week- I'm ready to just feel better and have some fun. Maybe I'll write a trip report too if I remember to take pics of our food!

Now... that I have some free time this morning... I thought I'd throw in the Hoop Dee Doo report. This is a GREAT family restaurant. Everyone had a great time. But we are definitely a family that likes a little entertainment with our meal.

It was Raining Cats and Dogs all day long. They have this really tiny porch that everyone was trying to fit on. By time we got there it was full so, we decided to walk around with our umbrellas...

For those who haven't been to Hoop Dee Doo Revue, this is how it works. When you arrive you check in and then, at the start of your seating time they direct you to your table. The earlier you make your reservation the closer you'll sit to the stage. We were about half way back off to the left of the stage. When we were seated there was already cornbread and salad on the table. They provided a paper menu with the drink options. The drinks are included. They even have Sangria and beer on the menu. Then, between the courses they did the show. It was fun! I highly recommend it. The food was good too.

The Salad--garden salad with a Italian dressing:

Here's my dinner plate... they serve buckets of chicken and another bucket of ribs, mashed potatoes & beans. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of everything in the buckets or bowls. You can ask for more of any of the food items.

2183616520041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Since it was very cold with the rain, I ordered hot tea and water. Everything came in these cute little mason jar cups. Very cute:

2464317930041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Oh... my friend loves chicken. She ate her weight in chicken. And she is really thin too. Anyways... I took a picture of her plate of chicken because I couldn't believe how much she ate:

And, my cute girls:

We'll definitely come back but not every year. Great theme. I loved all the trails and stuff. My goal is to camp here at least once in my life. It looks like so much fun...

We had a great time at Hoop Dee Doo- it's definitely something everyone should do once. Your girls are so pretty!

I'm a few reviews behind....been busy. Love the pics of Biergarten...it's been a couple of years since we've been there and I really miss it. It is definitely on the list to go back to on our next visit.

Thanks for the compliment...

We really like Biergarten too! My dh loves the beer especially the big glasses they serve them in.

I should be working on my audit but it is more fun to write a review! LOL...

Anyways... the next day we decided to spend the day at DHS. We had our lunch break at the various counter services on Sunset Blvd. We figured everyone would be able to order what they wanted. I decided to get the Fairfax Salad. Here's the menu at the stand (sorry about the girl in my picture... She didn't seem understand I had important DIS duties):

2364670000041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Here's the salad:

2728384310041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I thought the salad was bland. It was definitely missing something but it edible.

DD11 ordered the pizza at Catalina Eddie's and dh and dd8 ordered the cheeseburger at Rosie's All American Cafe. However, I did not get a picture as they were eating by time I came back with my salad.

They were very hungry and ate it quickly so, I assume it was good.

While we were watching Beauty and the Beast Show, dd8 got a cookie & Cream ice cream cone. It was good. We ended up having to share it as it was melting fast.

2398210760041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

That evening we ate at my favorite restaurant, the Flying Fish. For this meal only my friend came. Her son & husband decided to eat at ESPN (they had better food). My dh was not happy as he was the only boy in the whole group and felt a little left out. I felt bad for him. My friend only ordered an entree since she was still stuffing her face at the concierge at BCV. She was pretty much full our entire trip. Also, she is very price conscious. I noticed they ate more at the "all you can eat" than at a sit down meal which is fine. However, dh and I have different dining ideals. We like to be waited on and don't love the buffets or all you can eat as much. We also like ordering each course where they were too full to do that so, I felt like they were waiting around for us. We still had fun with them but I didn't realize how much the food part would be a problem. Funny thing is that she would never stay in a value either. They are only cheap on certain things. Hard to explain!

On to the flying fish... For beverage I ordered the Pineapple Upside down. I love this drink and was happy it was still on the menu:

2846086790041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I could have drank 10 of these but I didn't want to seem like a pig...

Dh ordered the Skip Jack Draft Beer. He was sitting too far away and pouting for me to take a picture....

My friend ordered iced tea and they brought out the lemon on a plate. I thought it looked really pretty...

2092838750041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Also, on the table they had a bread basket. It was just average bread... not too exciting...

2487185230041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

DD8 had the seasonal fruit with yogurt. She really like it especially since the fruit came on sticks.

2265078050041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

DD11 had Romaine lettuce salad with ranch. She loves Salads like this so, it was right up her alley...

2586776020041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I had the daily soup which I believe was the tortilla soup. It was good but not wonderful. It was lacking the meat. I make tortilla soup at home and I add chicken so, I was missing that.

2013971530041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh ordered the seasonal salad with vingriette. It was a welcomed change as we were all in desparate need of vegetables at this point. It was very good and I had a sample...

2416130920041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

For my main course & my friend, we ordered the Potato Wrapped Snapper with the wine sauce on leeks. OMGOSH... everytime I eat this I think, I've died and gone to heaven. It is very good.

2268221820041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh ordered Our Chef's Thunder: "Surf and Surf" with Far Eastern Influences -- Panko-Sesame See-crusted EPCOT Land Pavillion Tilapia, Florida Rock Shrimp, and Tempura Soft-shell crab, Tiny Carrot, Snow Pea, Green Bean and Honshemeji Mushroom, and Lotus Root Stir-fry, Lemongrass, White Soy, Ginger and Wasabi Butter Emulsion.... He loved it and thought it was a great combination of asian influence.

2428159240041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

dd11 ordered the skewered chicken with roasted potatoes & veggies. She loves the children's menus at high end restaurants because they usually have one or two items of real food that isn't pizza, hot dog or hamburger.

2395783300041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

dd8 ordered the butter noodles with parmesan cheese. She loved it...

2391745790041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

For dessert... both dh and I got the creme brulee. This isn't our favorite restaurant to get desserts. Not sure why. The desserts don't have that WOW taste. So, we decided to go with something safe like creme brulee. It was perfect. It came with fruit and a cookie:

2893530400041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Both dds ordered Sorcerer Mickey's Milk Chocolate Cauldron - fun "skewer" of fudge brownie, marshmallow, strawberry and Angel Food Cake. They loved it and thought it was fun to eat. Very filling dessert....

2681576300041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

This is one of our all time favorite restaurants at Disney. We will be coming back in the future.

Sorry I've been missing in action... We went to Oahu for Thanksgiving and had a lovely time. However, we came home to some pretty sad news. Our nephew who was 18 passed away over the weekend. We are totally sad. And, in shocked. But now I'm ready to go on with the trip report to keep my mind off of things. But first I wanted to let you know the best place to have a DOLE whip is in Oahu at the Dole Pineapple Plantation. It was so good and tasted delicious. However, the pineapples in Hawaii are better than the mainland. Something about the soil there makes them taste sweeter. Anyways... here is a picture of the dole whip we had:

2901160240041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

We also interrupt this program for a special insert from Roy's Restaurant. It is a chain restaurant but the ones in Hawaii are much better. I can't describe it but the fish dishes in Hawaii are just AMAZING... Nothing like you can get here unless you live really close to the fish source. It is one of my favorite places to eat at. Anyways... on the menu they had Pineapple Martinis. OMGOSH... they make their own pineapple liqueor out of fresh Maui Gold Pineapples. The entire martini is alcohol not drop of juice or sweetner in it. In fact it was so good that we ate their twice so, I could get another one. LOL...

2910786410041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

So, if you ever go to Hawaii please make reservations to eat at Roy's I promise you won't regret it.

I ordered the Trio of Treasurers which was 3 kinds of fish dishes. It had hailbut grilled in a pineapple glazed sauce, hailbut over riossoto (spelling) and shrimped on sticks (deep fried) with a yummy Asian sauce.

Okay... I decided to post the rest of the meal pictures:

Instead of bread they serve Edamane. It is toss with an oil and a spicy asian seasoning. It isn't super spicy as my 8 year old ate it. Very good though:

2516654280041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

For appetizer I ordered a salad that came with cheese wrapped in prosuitto and sauted apples with mixed greens in a vingrette dressing. It was very good but the cheese was very overpowering. I could only eat one cheese roll.

2525518900041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Now, this is where Roy's shines in my dd12 eyes. Their kids' menu is AWESOME. When the kids sit down they bring out quesdillas to munch on. Then, for an appetizer they get celery and carrots with ranch dressing. They have a wide variety of choices for entree but it isn't your typical hot dog and pizza choices. My dd12 ordered Ribs over pasta sauce and veggies. It was yummy. For dessert they get ice cream inbetween two cookies. Here's her entree...

2565470840041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

2961594840041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh ordered the Mahi Mahi encrusted with Macadamia nuts over a lobster wine sauce with potatoes (which you can't see as it is hidden under the fish). This is Roy's signature dish and it is served at all the Roy's restaurants. I enjoy this dish too. The dish I had is made at this particular restaurant only. The menu can change for the seasons.

2014342490041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

For dessert, I ordered the pineapple upside down cake and dh order the Chocolate Souffle. Both are made to order so you order them and they take 25 minutes to cook. We ordered them right before we got our entrees. They are very good. I'm partial to the pineapple as Maui Gold Pineapple is the best thing in the world to eat. The dish is served over a caramel sauce that was yummy. The chocolate souffle is good as well but I do like the one served in Palo better because of the vanilla and chocolate sauce. The one at Roys' is very rich and hard to finish.

2096199560041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

2945414620041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I swear the next post will be Disney food. This particular Roy's that we went to will be located across the road from the new Disney Hotel/Vacation Club. The area is called Ko'Olina. I can't wait until Disney is done with the hotel. There aren't very many food options in the area so hopefully, with Disney going in it will help the restaurant scene.

so sorry for your loss...

you have just brought back some very special memories of our honeymoon in Hawaii and Roys, we have nothing like it in the UK, so thank you!

For the next day we spent the day at Animal Kingdom. My friend has a boy and he doesn't love the shows so, her son & husband went and did their own thing after we did all the headliner rides. So, they did not join us for lunch at Flame Tree BBQ. My friend ordered the fruit platter as it was her last day there and she was sick of eating. I didn't get a picture.

I ordered my favorite onion rings. They were perfect: Hot and fresh. They were way better than the ones I had at Beaches & Cream. I think, next time I'm gonna send them back if they are cold because hot ones make a world of difference.

2207710710041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I also ordered the BBQ pork pulled sandwich which I love. I like adding extra BBQ sauce from the stations. It comes with a side of beans which are okay. Dh and dd11 ordered the same thing. dd8 ordered the hot dog which I didn't take a picture of. She ate it dispite the fact that they changed the buns which are not very soft. They fall apart when you eat them. Hot dogs definitely taste better with white buns (hope Disney is listening..) Here's my meal...

2887077670041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I did get a picture of dd8 grapes. They were cute in the bag and good.

2357666460041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

For dinner we ate at Yak & Yeti... My friend really wanted to eat at Chef Mickey's but I told her that was too far to go for just dinner. So, they agreed to eat at Yak & Yeti.

Her family ordered the Dim Sum Basket to share for dinner. Dim Sum Basket - Pork pot stickers, shrimp siu mai, cha su bao, and pork sie mai steamed on a banana leaf, soy lime dipping sauce $13.99

They enjoyed it and didn't complain:

2265520280041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

We ordered the spring rolls and potstickers to share among the 4 of us. They were very good. I loved the taste of the lime dipping sauce served with the pot stickers. It is my favorite. Next time I want to try the green beans.

2635394200041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

For dinner my friend & her family ordered 2 orders of the Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp - skirt steak, tempura-battered shrimp, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables, chili plum dipping sauce $24.99 ..... My dd11 and I ordered the same thing as well. This dish was okay. Wasn't as good as the 1st time. Not sure why.

2363165040041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh ordered... a salad... Okay my friend was rubbing off on to him. LOL... It was a big meal day so, he decided to go light. I'm sure it was a ton of calories. Anyways... he loved the salad and said it was perfect for a lighter feeling meal..

2274711430041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Now on to dessert. I totally overstuffed myself today and I really wanted to try the dessert. So, I force myself. My family did not order anything. So, I ordered the famous Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle $7.99

It was very good. I think, next time I'll order one or 2 appetizers and dessert and call it a day.

2252717420041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

My friend and her family order the Brownie Sundae Ice cream to share:

2085071650041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

My dd8 ordered a kids meal but I have no clue what. I didn't even take a picture. I'm sure it was just pizza with dessert if I had to guess.

Up next.... Cinderella's Royal Table Dinner!!!

I think, my friend and her family hit the concierge room one more time before going to bed. Hence, for all the sharing for that dinner. I think, they would have been happier at the buffet though.

Well... going back over my notes I noticed that we did eat lunch at Columbia Harbor house in MK. Today was our MK day. My oldest wanted to the hair do thing in the castle. So, I figured I better jump on the chance before she becomes to old for this type of stuff. So, we spent the morning on the rides and then, stopped for lunch. I was feeling guilty for my over indulgence yesterday that I ordered the Lighthouse Sandwich hummus with tomato & broccoli slaw $8.09 OMgosh... definitely a keeper. It was yummy not sure if it was really "LIGHT" but it was good.

2080768910041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

My kids orderd the kids meal chicken tenders with apple slices. Dh order the Fish & chips. They all liked it. We'd definitely come back here to eat as well.

2316547360041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Next up is definitely Cinderella's Royal Table.

P.S. My friend and her family left today so, the rest of our meals won't include theirs.

I'm so sorry about your loss...It seems like it was unexpected...Prayers to your family

I am joining in kind of late, but I am loving your reviews!! It is tough joining another family on vacation. Last year, we went with 10 people-- too many different food ideas and touring styles! This year, it was just the two of us and it was much, much better!
