The Flippant Trip - (new TWILIGHT TR update 11/16/09 bottom of pg 29)

Since there are a few readers who really seem to dig the Twilight phenomenon. It's a corny thing to do but it was a beautiful day for a drive in the Pacific Northwest. :cloud9:

Enjoy!

Ok... so DH and I (DH begrudegdly. He's a good sport but the idea of going to property that isn't his and taking photo's is "against the rules" in his eyes and therefore taboo - poor DH.) :rotfl: ok... so we took a road trip today. A Twilight field trip so to speak. These places are less than an hour from where I live in a suburb of Portland, OR. :drive:

Me in front of the Kalama High School. This was the stand in for Forks High.
I'm going to attempt a panoramic shot.

When I was there I thought that the front of the school was the main entrance. In fact, the side of the school was used as the main entrance in the movie.
Note the door behind me in the following pic

Up next.... Charlie and Bella's house, the Dress shop and the Bloated Toad in downtown St Helens which was the double for Forks.

I'm going to go see the movie again tomorrow. I wasn't planning on it but in St Helens I got a pic that I think might be a location in the movie and I want to see if I recognize it in the movie or if I was just suffering from overactive imagination. :scratchin:

PHOTO CREDITS: I think I got these mainly from Twilightmoms.com but I also saw some great shots on twilightextremists.com and Queen for the day every day Blog.

Hi there, I saw your siggie from Momma4u's TR. I love the Twilight series too. If you want to pm about what bothered you about the movie, I'll tell you what bothered me:rotfl:

Those pictures are awesome. I want to take a vacation to WA now because of the movie. Those pictures are awesome. I guess I need to go to twilightmoms. The last picture with Rosalie and Jasper, is that the Cullen house? I totally had another picture of what their house looked liked in my head. I wanna go see it again too!

Re-subbing under my new user name. I haven't been here in a couple weeks so I need to catch up! :)

:WELCOME:

I have lived in this area for about 10 years. I'm constantly amazed at the natural and untouched (even where populated) beauty of this place.

The pic of Rosalie (I think it's rosalie, but I'm almost positive it's Jasper) is taken right by the high school.

Hi!!! Welcome back!! How's the puppy???

I saw the movie again today. I have to say that I loved it in alot of ways and it was SO much more relaxing this time. But in some ways.. yeek. Mostly the overdramatics in Edwards acting. I know, I know.. I can't help it! *sigh* Don't hate me.

The special effects:

Please, please check out at least the first minute of this video:

What if I'm not the hero....

I mean seriously. :sad2:

I loved the baseball scene even more this time. The music was AWESOME and rocked, especially when it breaks and Emmet throws the ball back in. It was upbeat and FUN. Good stuff.

Overall, it's campy, hoakie, and I still love it.

Yesterday when DH was going around taking pics of me in front of all the sites he said, "You didn't even like the first book." It's true. I had alot of issues with it and I think they're good issues to have.

It's still fun though. There's definitely something about it. Especially all the silly trips I've taken because of it. This is going to sound cheesy, but I do it for you guys! I'm a trip reporter, dang it!

I love the sleuthing and the research and the travelling and the reporting, it's so much fun!

I hope you guys like the upcoming photo spread. :lmao:

I keep double posting from the twilight thread. Sorry for those who have subscriptions to both! :headache:

The actual location of this and the rest of these scenes is in St Helens, Oregon.

Everything you are about to see was in walking distance -except the house it was a few blocks away
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip025.jpg

Ok, so first we arrive at Bella's new coastal home (the author says she looked up which place had the greatest number of overcast days or most rain or something and lucky FORKS popped up on Google.).

Sorta like the Goonies all over again
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip053.jpg

My DH refused to go up the hill to the house to take my picture. I had heard from locals while in downtown that it was ok to do this as long as I kept my distance from the driveway/home. They had a sign on the tree out front but I didn't want to get close enough to read it and I pretty much already knew what it said.

This is the shop where Bella, Jessica, and Angela go to find a dress in Port Angeles (Also in St Helens). Bella sits in this window when she first meets the guys who will harrass her later. (foreshadowing in my own TR!)

In real life it's a salon

The inside was cute, I could recognize some things.. or at least I thought I did
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip032.jpg

It was Sunday and the shop was closed so I didn't mind peering in the window with my camera. This is where I met the "local" who told me how to find the house. He was very sweet.

When I was there I recognized a pretty building. I didn't take a pic of it though cause I couldn't remember if it was in the movie or not. It turns out that it's the backdrop when Bella is sitting in the window of the dress shop

But Bella isn't interested in dresses..she wants to go find out more about legends and beasty things....and then....

OK, HERE IT IS, MY PIECE DE RESISTANCE!! My crowning glory for the day.. my coup!!!!!

THE DREADED BACK ALLEYWAY!!!!

I saw the movie again today to double check if I was right about this and YEP, there they were in this very alley.

after visiting the bookstore, alone she gets lost and is walking here
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip042-1.jpg

Then she sees the frat boys from ealier..she's trapped! :crowded:
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip037-1.jpg

Are you afraid??? :lmao:
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip035-1.jpg

Me: breathy, blinking.. breath, shake my head dramatically..." No." :cool2:

As I said, I wasn't sure I was in the right spot but it felt like I was walking RIGHT THROUGH the movie. This was definitely the coolest part of my trip. :cutie:

Then, here comes Edward... VROOOOM VROOOM! :drive:
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip049.jpg
2009-10-10-09HalloweentownStHele-19.jpg

Oh, he's mad, alright!

Ok, ok, you get the idea. I was right there.. it was really cool. I saw the movie the first time right after having been to the Viewpoint Inn and then this time right after having been here, to this scene and places in "Forks." I can't say enough for this type of silly fun. :teeth:

Get in the car! :scared:

And now, may I take you out for a bite?

I had read on the internet that the restaunt where Bella and Edward have their first date did not want people coming inside disrupting business (they are not actually a restaraunt). Even though I think they were closed that day, I stayed across the street. I saw other people taking pics of it, too. :dance3:

The Bloated Toad.. not ME, the restaraunt
2008-11-23TwilightRoadTrip011.jpg

That pretty much sums up my trip to St Helens, OR (Forks and Port Angeles) and Kalama, WA (the highschool was there). Enjoy! BTW, the Carver Cafe is pretty close to me as well. Someday soon, I'll be taking a trip there to have lunch at Bella and Charlies favorite table. Blueberry (or was it blackberry?) Cobbler anybody? :cake:

OMG. Awesome awesome awesome! I love it and you totally rock for taking all these pictures! What a cool experience to be there too!

Thanks. I felt like I had to do it since i was so close. I'm really glad I did. It was fun to see a movie that way.

Wow! Great pictures. How fun. I would love to visit that place just for the fun of seeing it all.

It was cool, too, to see the movie after going to those places. There was alot of "less important" stuff that I recognized so clearly. It was really neat. I highly recommend doing it LOL

What a fun adventure! I was raised in Port Angeles and my Mom still lives there. She has been giving me all the local scoop, including the fact that they were selling custom fitted fangs. Too Funny! When I was in High School we toured the courthouse and a big part was the old jail in the basement. It's a cool building.

I know huh, al otof the small town court houses around here can be so pretty. The actual restaraunt that they ate at that was in the book does exist in Port Angeles. It's called Bella Italia... I'd love to go there sometime!

Keep me posted on any news of the next movie that she hears about up there!

Well, Melissa.....I finally started reading the book & bam you have these cool updates. I just finished reading the chapter of Bella getting stalked in the alley way so that was awesome to see it & it looked even scarier & small than I had it pictured.
I doubt I will get to see the movie before our trip oh but wait maybe I will go take in a matinee (not a manatee :lmao: ) later this week.......hmmmmmmmmm.
Thanks for sharing.

Those pictures are too cool, boy do I sound like a teenager. I so want to go see the movie again. I hope DH will go with me on Friday.

Hello my Twilight Friend....PM me later and we'll talk movie!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all your pictures, it makes me want to see the movie all over again. ((I'm not a big fan though. :( )) I'll explain later. They've already green-lighted the rest of the movies, so hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes and put more money into the special effects. OHHHHH..... And I really hope Edward gets some major acting lessons before the next movie too. :lmao: .....

OFF SUBJECT..... Did you hear about that missing marine from Colorado that they arrested in Port Angeles last weekend?!?!

Hey girl! If I were you, I'd stop reading the book and go see the movie. Especially if you are enjoying my pics.

I think seeing the movie after the book made it more of a let down. But, that's just a guess, of course. I think it'd be fun to see the movie then read the book to fill in the details.

The second time was way better for me. I can't imagine taking my poor DH. :headache: He's an awesome DH but in this case... like country music, this would NOT be his thing. And the funny part is.. it's kinda like I don't know why. Sorta like why men cling to football. To make sure their men? ROFL

Sounds like we were on the same page. I recommend seeing it twice. You know, when I was reading the book I was very clearly thinking, OMG this is going to make a TERRIBLE movie! Honestly, that's what I thought. It's so mellowdramatic and angsty and that's how the movie was. I think they did a good job with keeping to the book though.

I agree totally about the acting. How bout Alice scribbling out the ballet studio..."Have you been there?" so bad. ANd I am not one to notice bad acting so if it's bad it must be really bad. And the special effects! Nobody commented on my link to the Greatest AMercian Hero! When he's running up the hill he looks just like something out of a bad 80's TV show! :sad2:

OFF SUBJECT..... Did you hear about that missing marine from Colorado that they arrested in Port Angeles last weekend?!?!

Nope, what was he doin' there?

P.S. Have you read Midnight Sun?

Sorta like why men cling to football. To make sure their men? ROFL
Football is action. When we men are having a bad day, explosions and action movies often make him us better. I remember a particularly hard day in my college years. I'd just had my heart broken by a wonderful girl and it hurt. I went to a college football game that night and took out all my frustrations by yelling for my team (and at the other one). It didn't erase my hurt, but it was cathartic.

That makes alotta sense. Thanks, SleeplesKnight! The book, even for me, was a little embarrassing to enjoy. I think that would be a problem for him. He's a softie but he has to reserve some shreds of not softieness, like keeping track of football, hating country music, and not enjoying really sappy romance. LOL He does cry at movies more than I do though.

:rotfl2:

I have a confession to make. I'm about halfway through the book. The author went to the same university that I did and given her age, it's entirely possible that I had a class with her and didn't know it since some of the classes were very large. I've seen a few articles about the book and movie on website that compiles articles about the athletic department with a smattering of "related" articles that relates to the university itself, and my curiousity was picqued.

At any rate, after hearing all the hype and a few decent reviews from guys, my curiousity got the better of me and I bought the book. There are a few parts that I quickly glance over, but to this point, it seems to hint that some danger and maybe even some action is coming. So, without spoiling anything, are my hopes for some action sequences in vain?

I haven't decided if I'm going to read the others and that will depend on whether or not the book delivers some action, especially since my taste in movies relies on sword fights(whether it be a sword of truth or a lightsaber). Not that I'm expecting swordfights, but I'm a guy, so I want some swordfights, fistfights, or something when the guy saves the girl.

Thanks for posting the pictures of your Twilight adventure. The back alley is a little freaky- even in the daylight.
What an amazing DH to go along with you.
