The first four threads here ask about offsite resorts....now what does this say?

What I'm saying is...for as long as I've used the DIS, offsite hotel questions were quickly whisked off to..I forget, it was some other Dis forum...Orlando Area Hotels or something to that effect. The Disney Resort questions alone kept the boards hopping. Now those offsite questions are just here mingling with the Disney Resort queries.

Are room only codes a thing of the past and are so many offsite hotel questions the result? I wonder if there are significant numbers of fairly regular DisneyResort guests who are opting for a DTD hotel or something "right outside the gates" for their trips this year?

Winka, it is funny you ask this because I just made ressies for Homewood Suites for 4 nights followed by Dolphin for 4 nights at goverment rate. We use to say that we would never stay offsite, but I refuse to pay rack rates any more. We bought APs for the first time back in June and the waiting game for the discount rates for our last trip left a bad taste in our mouths. I swore to the DW that I would not go through that again for our trip in March. That is why I made the ressies that I did. If AP rates come out for our trip in March, I might try to get a WDW resort for the first 4 nights but I won't change our Dolphin stay, so Disney has lost out on at least 4 nights and maybe more. I think it is time that WDW gets the message and hope it comes through loud and clear.

Next summer we will stay at the Swan if WDW doesn't have some kind of discount. :D

I refuse to pay rack rate for any WDW resort, and even if I was a millionaire with money to burn I still wouldn't pay rack. We've always used our ap discount at the resorts, or rented dvc points for a "home away from home" resort. If ap discounts end then we'll stay at the Swan. :earsgirl:

Even though Swan/Dolphin is not owned by Disney, it is VERY much on Disney Property, more so than the Disney moderates and values. When we stayed at the Dolphin, we walked to Epcot, and could see MGM's Tower of Terror out of our room window. Our son thought the boat to MGM was a ride in itself. The bus service to MK and AK was great too. Swan/Dolphin is a deluxe resort and offers some great rates to make it more affordable than the moderates. I can't justify staying at a pricier deluxe when I can get the same location for 1/2 the price at the Dolphin.
