I had completely forgotten this until I came upon this board... my first Monte Cristo sandwich ever was at DL when I was about 5 years old and I LOOOOOVED it! How funny to come here and realize that I had a sandwich that was legendary in its fabulousness... no wonder no other Monte Cristo has ever lived up to that first one! :rotfl:

If my memory serves me correctly, I think I had it at the Carnation Cafe - did they (or do they) serve it there too? My memory could be off, heck I was only 5! But I don't think I've ever been to Blue Bayou - definitely planning to have lunch there this trip though.

I don't know what my point is, just thought it was funny to see all the hoopla about this sandwich because it definitely made an impression on me too, even as a wee one :cutie: .

Blue Bayou and Café Orleans have the Monte Cristo. CO also has a 3 cheese Monte Cristo which is very tasty but very rich! The CO pricing is less than BB.

At Cafe Orleans two weeks ago... it was my first at DL and it was very tasty. Served with fruit too. YUMMY! I am so glad we stopped off to eat there. I have a photo of my meal somewhere too so if you would like to see what it looks like let me know......

Here you go (hopefully the photo comes through)

I too for years remembered eating a sandwich called a Monte Cristo! I was about seven and there was a restaurant we went to with my grandparents here in Denver that served them but it went out of business. I really never saw one again until we went to DL when I was about 39! I guess a deep fried sandwich, dusted with powdered sugar and served with jelly is just hard to forget! I always say if a ham sandwich married a donut, a Monte Cristo would be their love child!

At one time the Carnation Cafe did have the Monte Cristo. I ate one there also.

Yes I have to agree the MC at the CO was extremely rich. I dont think I would ever get the 3 cheese one again. The sandwhich itself was to die for sooooooooo yummy, but my mom and I shared and couldnt finish it. It was just that rich. Also I didnt care for the icing sugar on top. Next time I am going to ask for the regular MC without the sprinkled icing sugar.

I really love the fact that Disneyland serves fruit with their meals insted of french fries, that is definately one thing I praise Disneyland about. I think thats a really great idea for those who try to eat healthier. I just think its funny that they serve fruit with the monte cristo the oohie gooie deep fried goodness. Its like going to Mcdonalds and getting a double big mac and a diet coke.
