The face transplant woman

ugh!
I can't believe that they even let her have access to cigarettes! Give her the patch and tell her she should be grateful to have the new face!

I read about this the other day.. I think its a shame.. she was given a second chance and she might just ruin it by smoking.. :confused3

I totally agree!

I agree with you, but remember it is a completely different culture. I am not excusing her actions by an means. It is just different.

Wasn't she suicidal to begin with? And that one element of her being mauled was that she was not able to defend herself because she'd o'ded and was unconscious? And so therefore, might not have been the best transplant candidate (don't they require you to be in stable mental health in most places)? So they went out on a limb for her and she goes and does this. Even if it is a different country, tissue rejection knows no culture or language barrier! I guess she is still somewhat self-destructive. I hope they are getting her in counseling, whatever happens with the smoking. Very sad all around, I wanted her to get well and have a good life and this will risk that.

Wow - show a little compassion, people. She's not the devil. Sure her choice to smoke (and it is her choice - they can't deny a free person access to cigarettes  ) is not wise and may have tragic consequences for her, but she sounds like she's got real problems. She's obviously addicted to cigarettes, has some possible mental health stuff going on, and had her own face destroyed by a dog (which in itself would cause huge mental issues in most people).

Do I wish she was not smoking? Of course. But I feel sad for her despite her inability or refusal to quit smoking. I'm just glad that doctors have come to the point where they can do this life-changing procedure. They can evaluate candidates before the surgery and might rule some out, but they can't just deny this to someone because the person might have potential detrimental "issues" :confused3.

And no I don't smoke. I just can't justify crucifying people who do - especially someone who has been tragically disfigured.
