okay, so here i am at 5 AM on a workday on the DisBoards, becos i've finally figured out that there's no way i'm getting back to sleep tonight. the fire alarm in my apt building went off 2 hours ago, i went across the street to the 24-hour pharmacy for a while, then after 30 minutes they let us back in. but. the fire alarm in my apartment was still going off. i wait a bit. still going. it sounds like a ginormous truck is backing up in my living room. i call the front desk. they tell me to disconnect my fire alarm and they will reset it in the morning. okay. i rip the alarm out of the wall. nothing. for good measure, i also rip the lone speaker-type device in my apartment, part of the security system, out of the wall. it is still going. where the heck is it coming from?!? i call the front desk again furious and in tears at this point becos they can't send anyone to fix it until after 8 AM. i remind them that this is the second false fire alarm in a week and what are they planning to do about it, and his reply is "oh you know, college kids just gettin' drunk and doing their thing." faaabulous. he will be hearing from me in a few hours, i say. i have been sitting here sobbing for the past half hour just to cover up the awful noise (yes - it's that bad. imagine the world's most obnoxious alarm clock put through a megaphone). i work at a very exhausting job (i went to bed at 8pm last night becos i was so tired) and i have to be there in four hours and it's going to be a very busy day.
has anyone else ever had this problem of not being able to shut off your fire alarm? what did you do?
thanks for letting me rant. ugh.
i'm going to go make some pasta. and remember kids: don't get drunk and pull fire alarms at 3 in the morning. it is not funny. at all.

but i guess there was no way i could have known. the guy on the phone last night kept telling me to "disconnect it" so of course i was messing with the smoke detector as that was the only thing i could see as causing the problem.
