The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

I don't have any advice about JetBlue or AirTran, but I flew Southwest for my last trip. The seats were very narrow, and I'm glad I decided to buy the Customer of Size ticket (aka, a double seat). I was the only comfortable person on the plane :lmao:

This thread has been so helpful! I think my eyes may be permanently crossed after reading through 23 pages :surfweb: I am looking forward to our trip so much more now!

Hi fellow Pooh sized pals! I just gotta shout something out b/c I am so excited about it! I may even start a thread b/c I am so excited! I used my fluff to come up with a great idea! For years my mom has been trying to get me to take off some Pooh pounds. She tries to make deals with me...I'll give you this if you lose 50 pounds...etc.... I've been trying to get her to commit to watching all five of my kiddos so my hubby and I can go to Disney alone! She couldn't understand why I'd want to go without the kids! Today I put the two things together, and guess what? My momma has agreed to watch my kids if I lose 75 pounds! I wanted to lose the pounds anyway, so this is major incentive! I'm so excited! A family trip in May, and a honeymoon 13 years after the wedding (well, maybe 14 by the time those pounds come off)! Yay! :yay::love::cool1::woohoo::banana::rotfl:

Hello all!! I love this thread!! I am a size 28(3x-4x) evenly body shaped meaning big everywhere pretty much LOL woman. Would anyone care to share their flight experiences? I am sooooo scared I won't fit. I am flying with JetBlue on February for the first time. I have avoided flying because of my weight. This is our first trip to Disney. :) I am sitting in an aisle seat with my 3 year old daughter in the middle beside me. Thanks everyone!

I am a 22/24 and fit in the Jet Blue seats fine. I think your daughter being next to you will make it even easier since you can raise the arm rests and spread out a bit.

Anxiously waiting a report on how the new lap bars on Splash affect the pooh sized guests...

I have been concerned about the same thing and I also worry about the lap bars with my long legs as well. Splash Mountain has always been difficult on my knees because of the lack of leg room.

I too was concerned when I heard Splash was getting lap restraints. We go in June 2012 for 10 days in the park and PCC 3.0, hoping I have lost a bit of weight by then.

We went for the first time in December and I fit on EVERYTHING. Some turnstiles were tight but rides were fine. I was especially worried about Everest because they have signs posted saying some people of certain body sizes and shapes wont fit...not true I fit and I am 5'5" and a 4x.

I too read all these pages before we went and was somewhat relieved by others that I wasnt going to be too embarrased and not be able to ride much. Just go get in line and have fun because you will fit.

We live 20 minutes from Cedar Point, they changed the seats on most of the coasters and they have fat police to pull you out of line to check seats. I wont go after being embarrased- even thought I just got off the ride and was in line to ride it again. My hard earned money is going to the mouse:cool1:

My husband and I both fit. leg room was a little more cramped but not much. the lap bars were fine. This was about a week ago.

Do you mean the installation of the lap bars? If so, it's already done. HTH

When were they done? I was there in October, and I honestly can't remember what restraints were on that ride. Was hoping I wouldn't have any issues with that ride b/c I was fine last time. Should I be worried?

This is what I was afraid of hearing. I already had a hard time with leg room, its sounding like this ride may no longer be doable for me. This is very disappointing...:confused3

Ok so I've read through most of the posts in this thread and feel slightyly reassured that I will fit on most of the rides. But what I'm worried about is rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and it's a small world - will I cause our boat to bottom out? I am freaked out that my whole boat will get stuck and we'll have to be evacuated or something. At least if I don't fit at the beginning of a ride I'll just have a walk of shame through the chicken exit but if I cause a whole ride to be tied up then...the embarrassment is unthinkable. If it helps I'm a size 28 and probably 340-350. Any kind words are appreciated :)

You will be fine. Basically the CMs deal with this on a daily basis so they load the boat accordingly. Most likely the boat you are in won't be filled and they may place you in the middle but it will still be fine.

DH and I are "Pooh" people and this is what usually happens when we ride those rides. (of course I don't do ISWA due to the song sticking in my head...lol)

Oh and at your size you still should be fine on everything. Really don't worry!!!
But I tell everyone you will, until you get there and ride a few things and see for yourself. Then relax....all parks at Disney take this into account.

Hi! Even though you are in good shape for your size, you WILL be sore! I am a pooh sized black belt, so I train frequently, and I was in terrible pain from walking! You have to have the right shoes, and you should probably get started on that walking! We pulled our treadmill in last night. As for shoes, I am taking several pairs of Crocs as I have plantar fascitis, and am looking into fit flops, Teva flip flops, and Sketchers shape ups (which I think are seriously ugly, but everyone swears by them.). Taking care of your feet at Disney is key. I was desperate for more changes of shoes in the park the first couple of days, so I started bringing more. I tried the Disney crocs on in the parks and was disappointed in the amount of support, so I didn't buy any. Good luck!

I have to tell you, I agree with one of the other posters. I have had plantar fasciitis for years, am size 22, and have bilateral knee replacements. I have worn very expensive sneakers and crocs, but the absolute most comfort I have gotten is from the Shape ups. It takes all the pressure off your arch and heel. I had to break them in the first two days. I am an RN and walk a lot. I used to have back and foot pain. I don't have any with the Shape ups. They run small. I usually wear a size 8 shoe, but I had to get a 9.5 in these. I never would have believed these would work. But now, when I try to wear a regular shoe, I can't walk right. It is a very odd thing walking in these. it's like wearing some type of skiis or something. I love them.

This is a great thread and while I haven't read all of it, I wanted to add to it. I just posted this in a different thread and posted about walking in the tips thread, but they both fit here, so I'll repost the basics of them.

Turnstiles can be a problem for bigger people, however, just mention to a CM that you need to use the wheelchair entrance and they will let you in that way without blinking an eye. No comments or looks. This is especially helpful at The Haunted Mansion where we asked to use the handicapped entrance and went right in.

The other tip is for walking problems.

I am a big guy. Short and stocky and dense.. like a dwarf from Lord of The Rings ;) Walking used to cause me several problems.. leg pain, knee pain, lower back pain. Plus, I ripped a tertiary muscle in my calf that didn't heal properly. After two hours of walking, the pain would start. I invested in a pair of Sketchers Shape Ups Sneakers. My "walking life" has never been better. (yes, they're expensive, but I liked them so much, I have bought 3 pairs) The Sketcher's make you have a more smoother and natural walk. There is no jarring when you put your heel down. I've spent all day walking through Disneyland with no problems.. and my calf muscle healed in short time. The have sneakers and open toe sandals if you want to go sockless in the summer time. They're a little weird, at first, as you have a rolling gait instead of a hard step, but once you get used to them, you should find them much more comfortable to walk in.

My sister is a big girl and she's had knee surgery. I finally convinced her to try them and now she loves them, too. They don't really make you lose weight, but they DO tone up and strengthen your legs. I can even last longer in regular shoes now. (Note: they are not meant for any activity but walking - do not try dancing in them!)

I so agree with you. These are the best shoes.

Like mentioned above, you will be fine. I weigh more than you and ride POTC every visit and have never gotten the boat stuck. IASW will not be a problem either except like was mentioned earlier, the song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. I have only had problems with a few rides and that has to do with my long legs and height (I'm 6'4") but never my size (54" waist). Put your worries to rest and have a great trip, Disney knows how to treat everyone, including us Pooh sized folks, right. :goodvibes

I understand how embarrassing those fat police can be....2 years ago at StarTours I got asked if I was pregnant by a CM and she didnt say it quietly either..(I wasnt!)...then going on Space mountain I had the same thing happen to me...so it can happen at Disney...in future I try to stand and suck my gut in...lol

As someone who has "broke" Space Mountain, Pirates, AND It's a Small World, trust me... you can't do it alone. When I used to go to Disneyland, I tended to go with a group of bears (Big Hairy Men). It took 10 of us to break Space Mountain, while Pirates and Small World took 12 of us. (It was a banner day that day!) One or two big people will not break a ride.
