Ummm karen, I just read 3 installments on your sister's TR.

What's up with that? Where are you, my dear?

Er.....work, family...and the DIS has suffered because of it. Hopefully I'll have my next installment up soon!

Welcome OhMari, alli&matts mom (ditto on the kids, yours are adorable and look like they really like eachother :) ) Thanks for stopping by Horsegirl, I loved your report (although I'll admit I haven't quite finished it yet).

Cass, she has THREE up, yikes! I guess maybe I lit a fire under here with the two week threat!

Day One. Our secret. Don’t judge us.
As I’ve alluded to before, we are not planners when it comes to our Disney vacations. It is vacation for us, plain & simple. Although as we all know, Walt Disney World is about the furthest thing in the world from plain & simple. I have read the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World cover-to-cover. I spend endless hours on the DIS boards researching, learning, and planning in a non-planning kind of way. There is something unique that I have learned from being a former Cast Member is that things are changing, constantly. The way it was back in 1996 is not the way it is today, and even different from what it was five years ago. I would love to claim myself an expert due to my College Program experience, but I simply can’t. This company is always evolving. Maybe that is why they are so successful? They are not content with something working; they are always looking to find ways to make it work better. There are a few things that I think that I will always be able to count on, such as the Three O’clock parade starting at 3:00, and the left hand line being shorter than the right.

Any vacation guidebook, touring plan, or past guest will agree that the key to a successful day at the Magic Kingdom is to “GO EARLY”. This is absolutely correct, for most. I know better than to sleep in (as much as you can with three kids 4 and under), and eat a leisurely breakfast in your villa. But we do, and we did on our FIRST full day at Disney World.

I have full confidence that these types of Disney World faux paus will not ruin our vacation nor hinder the excitement and experience that our children have. We have the luxury of knowing that a) our kids can’t read the park maps, so they will never miss what they don’t experience first hand, and b) another trip is always on the horizon. So for us, we take the time to enjoy our family, take in the Disney magic and go where the present opportunities take us.

On day one the first order of business was to get our little Princess’s annual pass activated. Being the laid back guests that we are, walking to Epcot’s International Gateway is our first choice. Then we’ll leisurely stroll through Epcot, catch the monorail & hit the Magic Kingdom. No bus ride. This is key. This trip will be the ultimate quest to avoid the bus. We would rather walk three miles out of the way than ride on a crowded bus for one. Another reason why the room assigning gods probably placed us at the end of the line, they sensed we really wouldn’t mind.

By the time we reach the Magic Kingdom it’s already after 11:00. Note the time on the clock, and the crowd level:

Is that a lime green shirt under that woman’s jacket? Is she a DIS’er?

The day pretty much consisted of the carousel and characters. We arrived at prime time to get the lines at the peak of the day, so after several trips on the Carousel, and a quick stop in Toon Town we made our way to the “mountain range”.

I can admit this was the day that we made biggest mistakes of our vacation; and I’m sure we are not the first to make this heinous error. We offered the opportunity to ride Splash Mountain to our Princess. Yes, she is 4 ½ but a very petite 4 ½ and a great parent would have verified the height requirement, and measured their child PRIOR to leaving for the trip. We, of course, did not. As the crocodile tears flowed freely upon her denial of entrance I felt like the biggest heel in the world. We looked like jerks, we felt like jerks. She had no idea what the ride was, or what it consisted of; but for someone to tell her she’s not big enough just crushed her. It crushed me.

Thankfully crocodile tears were easily eliminated with the peace offering of a popsicle and front row seats to Cinderellabration.

Now I know I am not alone in this, and that are others of you out there that feel the same way. Cinderellabration is pretty lame in Disney production standards. There is absolutely no plot, just lots of princess prancing. Yea the kids liked it, but it wasn’t an “oh wow” or “can we watch it again” type deal. We had great seats and no crowds…but sacrificed part of our hearing because of it.

I’m sure that we ate dinner before heading back, I really don’t remember. As I mentioned earlier, I do not make 18,000 ADR’s. Just one and that is on only to facilitate early entry into the Magic Kingdom…but that is another day.

Now I have to let you in on a little secret, and it is a lesson in learning not to judge people.

Had you seen us in Disney this week, you would have noticed that we walked at a very sloooooow pace. You were probably frustrated if you were “stuck” behind us trying to get somewhere. You also probably muttered evil thoughts to yourself and your traveling company about my DH as you watched us at the bus stop that evening; as it was I that wrestled with the double stroller thatwasbiggerthanme, lugging it onto the bus. All the while my strapping DH stood there with nothing but an 18lb baby in his arms. He is a very fit guy, we’re often stopped and asked if he is a Marine due to his high & tight, so I’m sure to onlookers he looked like a big jerk-o and I like a subservient wife. Neither of the two is even close to being true.

Now, nearly a year prior to this trip we completed our family. After the birth of our son we were very comfortable with our party of five and made the decision to take decisive and permanent action on this matter. As I was the one that had endured the years of pregnancy and childbirth we agreed that it would be most fitting & fair for him to “take care of things” permanently. Now my only gripe here is that we did indeed make this decision a year ago…and when is the “procedure” finally done? Days, yes, just a few days prior to our vacation. I even suggested waiting until after the trip, but after a couple months of moved/rescheduled/canceled appointments due to work conflicts he kept this one. Now anything medical will affect everyone differently. We heard stories of “you’ll be fine the next day”, and then some where it was a week or two to feel better. He fell somewhere in-between. I think the extra walking & some lifting didn’t help. So by this day (day 2 of vacation, day 1 of parks), he was hurting. I had told him so.

So when you see a strapping young man, standing idly by as his wife lifts, lugs & carries their children and cargo, don’t judge. Let this be a lesson. Think of us and consider that maybe there are circumstances that you are not aware of, and move on.

Just make sure you tell Loubon all about it. He LOVES to hear about men getting "tutored." :rotfl2: You can usually find him hanging around the CB.

OOOOh! Love it! Love it!!!

Your baby's are just Bee-u-ti-ful!!!! I just want to kiss your baby's cheeks! Look at those yummy cheeks!!!! I promise not to kiss your kids if I ever see you in real life...that would be inappropriate....BUT THOSE CHEEKS! :goodvibes

Sorry, i woulda judged not knowing about the neuterfication. I'll re-think next time  !! Glad HE took care of it and not YOU, the birther of the two.

My DH thinks Pt Cruisers look like something Bonnie and Clyde-ish! The convertible one's arent THAT bad, though.

You write loverly, as well as anyone, really!

I stand all amazed at your stroller/luggage lugging! I never thought to send our luggage ahead of time! Wouldnt that dip into the turkey leg/mickey bar $$? Hmmmm?

Hi Karen! Your poor hubby, I hoped you kissed it better!

This is why I don't read trip reports.

Hi there :wave2: I just found your TR, and I'm LOVING it! Whoever failed you in English was a moron - you write beautifully. :thumbsup2
As always, I'm in complete awe of anyone who successfully takes multiple children anywhere, let alone Disney :worship: I only have one and I can't even manage to keep track of everything I want to at The World!
Looking forward to more of your fabulous story...

I need to take my sister, The Meanest Mother’s, advice and realize that done IS better than perfect.

Hello? Remember this thought? :rolleyes1

It's been nearly a month, dear sister! Get hoppin'! Your next trip is upon you and you have yet much to say about this one!!!

Did I mention I'm totally jealous? Do you need an auntie to go along with you on this trip?

bumpity bump bump.

I knew it wasn't gone.

Our Week Continues…
And so does my story, only a mere ten months after I started this report and more than a year since this particular trip ended. Where does the time go? It’s funny how seasons can trigger memories. Now the early morning sun in the springtime, daffodils on my counter, and a nice cup coffee on a Sunday reminds me that I should be checking the DIS for a new installment from the Meanest Mama. This typically inspires me to work on my own, and here we are. Now of course since this trip & subsequent trip report began, my kids have grown up a little bit and time has passed. Our family has taken three trips to Orlando since, and given that I have taken to the whole trip report thing I was very good about writing notes and keeping a journal so my trip reports from here on out should be a breeze. If I can just get this one done first…

We were up to Day 2. The park of choice today would be the Animal Kingdom. Simply because a little bird had told me that there would be a preview of Expedition Everest for DVC members, which we are. The attraction itself is not scheduled to open for another 8 weeks, and we do not have another trip planned for the near future, so I would love to get in on this opportunity. The Yeti talk on the DIS had been rampant so I really wanted to see for myself. As we approached the entrance it was quite obvious that the question of the day was “Is Expedition Everest open”? The cast members were saying to everyone that EE was open at the moment, but go now because there was no guarantee how long it would stay open. Yikes! Now we’re on a mission, which is not at all how we normally go about our days at Disney World. I even made that crazy tourist, non-planner mistake of not researching the quickest & most direct route to EE. The cast members were ushering us one way, but I knew in my mind there was a quicker one. However due to my husbands current disability status, I knew this was no time to be taking unnecessary adventures and because of the time issue involved it was best to stay the course. As we reached EE, I barely broke stride as I ditched my loved ones to head for the Himalayas. “See ya in a bit honey, have fun with the two strollers & three kids”. I zipped & zagged through the empty queue. I even had a crazy fleeing thought of wishing there was a line so I could actually look at the detail of the queue. Within minutes I was at the front, ready & waiting for our train to come.

The ride itself was good, for everything I was expecting, it was nothing I expected. Follow me? There was plenty of time to ponder the question of “what if” as we sat and waited for the track to change over so we could continue in forward motion. “What if the track got stuck mid flip and no-one noticed, so the train launched forward into the broken track” “What if the timing of another train was off and we set course for disaster” Talk about a downer, but I honestly found myself more scared than usual. These are things that I never would have thought about before giving birth and becoming responsible for raising three human beings in this world. I get these guilty thoughts about the one in a zillion chance of something bad happening during these “trial runs” and me being one of the unlucky guinea pigs and subsequently leaving my children Motherless over a greedy chance to be one of the first to ride a roller coaster. Before I knew it I was reunited with my family, and feeling quite tipsy & queasy. I commented to my husband, that I’m getting old, I didn’t feel so hot, and it wasn’t as fun as I expected. This queasy feeling was nothing a cold coke couldn’t handle. It kinda felt like the hangover in college that only McDonalds coke w/lots of ice could cure.

It wasn’t long before I was rid of my EE hangover and ready to explore more of Animal Kingdom. Until now, all our visits to the Animal Kingdom basically included walking straight to Africa. Going on the Safari, Pangani Trail, over to the Maharajah Jungle Trek and out of the park by Noon. This time however, we embarked on uncharted territory…Dinoland. This is one place where one really, really needs to have an appreciation for Disney’s attention to theming & detail. Many call it a monstrosity, I call it appropriate. It fits, not our style, but it fits. Makes you feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere on a cross country trip across America. It is loud and obnoxious, but quiet and eerie all at the same time. The only attraction we could do was Triceratop Spin, and we did. Enough said.
Feb2006DisneyWorld030.jpg

DH Holding our Pixie, Princess is in the back seat.

Before we headed out for the day we stopped by Camp Minnie-Mickey to watch Pocahontas and her Forest Friends. Talk about expectations…our oldest about melted down because Pocahontas was wearing her “winter” clothes. She didn’t think it was the real Pocahontas because of it.
Feb2006DisneyWorld032.jpg

This was one of the first times that we’ve plunked our kids down in the front sat rows away from them (they make you, kids only in the front rows). It was really sweet to watch them from afar; you see things differently from different angles. I was proud of their behavior, emotional because they are “big kids” now. This is the start of the end of their dependence on me…. I know, I know…get a grip they are only 2 and 4. For crying out loud, it was seats at a Disney show, not the junior high prom.
Feb2006DisneyWorld031.jpg

So after all was said and done, extra diversions to other lands…we still managed to exit the park by early afternoon. One of the best things about DVC is the ability to head back to our villa, stretch out, spread out. We can have nap-takers, TV watchers & meal preparers, and full access all sharing the same space without waking the baby, or fighting over the downtime TV channel. It is the ultimate in relaxation & a necessity with small children. I’m so glad we joined when we did!

Up next…I don’t know, I’m the non-planner planner, remember!

The hair stood up on the back of my neck a little while ago and I had an overwhelming urge to check the DIS-trip reports.

Welcome back Karen, 3 trips since this one, huh?

Karen - I had subscribed to this back in the early 80's and I guess never posted or it may have been invisible ink ;)

Anywho - I had to reread the whole thing because 3 decades have almost passed since then. Love the pictures of your babies  I "heard" they have grown a little. Loved the comment about it isn't the prom :rotfl2:

:dance3: :dance3:

Get to work, slacker.
