The Empty Nesters Magical Mystery Tour *1/28* Link to New Girl's TR p141

I think it's a great decision Mary Ellen :) you are going to fall in love with DL!

Your trip is coming up so fast!!!! :cool1:

I am too late to offer my advice but we did last time they offered the deal for PAP and we still didn’t go to any water park or DQ. We opted not to buy it this time. If they still gave the 20% discount I would have. We do have to buy a regular AP by October. Even if we do not go we still buy. Don’t ask me why. LOL..

We used the water parks twice on this pass. I wish we had also gone to DQ, but we never got around to it. It's just so hard to do everything.

We passed on the AP's. I think another deal will come up again. I'm happy with my decision. I'm excited to try Universal on our next couples trip and now I won't have any excuses to not go there.

That is great the DISMEET went so good and Denny had a good time.

I'm very excited Denny has discovered that DISmeets are not something to be afraid of anymore. He really is doing a good job and just going with it and enjoying them. :thumbsup2

Anonymous10. LOL. That is funny.

I know. It's like a secret code or something. :rotfl:

That stinks about the cap.

I was pretty bummed at the time since I still had another week of vacation. Fortunately getting a replacement through Amazon was easy!

The drink looks good.

It was REALLY good! I highly recommend everyone put it on their F&W drink bucket list!

Grapefruit beer sounds good.

It IS really good. That's another adult beverage I recommend. Very tasty and refreshing!

All caught up again.

:thumbsup2

I think it's a great decision Mary Ellen :) you are going to fall in love with DL!

I know I will Pam. And you, among others, have helped me decide that I really need to visit DL. I love seeing WDW die-hards head out there and love it as much as they do. It's really cool!

Your trip is coming up so fast!!!! :cool1:

I know and that pile of clothes sitting in my room that I still need to pack it totally reminding me! :rotfl:

I have fallen a tad behind on my subbed TR's this week, so please forgive me as I catch up over the weekend.

I leave a week from Sunday and I am super excited. Usually by now I am completely packed. Not this time. Plus I broke (or I should say Southwest Air broke) one of my spinner wheels on my suitcase. I am SO bummed. I love this suitcase cause it USED to spin so nice. I elected not to buy a new suitcase because I can balance it on the back wheels and it is otherwise in excellent condition. Plus I don't feel like spending $ on a new suitcase at the moment. I think we should just wait and buy a set before our October trip.

I'm still bummed and I think that's why I haven't pulled the suitcase out of my closest yet. I can't stand to see the damage those dummies in Baltimore did! How do I know it happened in Baltimore? Because they said some luggage jammed up the belt and they had to move our flight to a different belt. My suitcase was one of about six that never showed up until the original belt started running again.

Hey, they don't call me Anonymous10 (aka code for secret spy) for nothing! :rolleyes1

In other news -

We passed on the AP's. And you know what? - I'm OK with that. I really want to visit other parks (e.g. the dark side) in October and then we have the cruise. There are so many things I'd like to see and do. I'm definitely going to MNSSHP. Heck - maybe I'll even go twice!

I am zeroing in on late February 2015 for our DL trip, simply because I have left over points in this use year - I know :faint: Right? And I don't feel like banking them. I know it will be cool at night and there's the possibility of an El Nino year with lots of rain, but I'm willing to accept the weather risk.

Any other thoughts on this time of year for DL? The crowd calendar looks excellent for the three weeks after President's week.

Then I'm thinking Vero Beach in June and, if my whole family wants to go, I'll look at a 2BR.

Then I'd like to go back to WDW during the Christmas Season. As Cynthia pointed out , I completely overlooked our unofficial Girl's Trip schedule which has become every 18 months. I'm not sure how to swing that unless I go for a long weekend in early October and then head back in December with Denny.

My vacation schedule is not quite as flexible with my current job. I am really trying to pace my vacations with the amount of vacation time other people take and that appears to be about 3 weeks a year. I was used to taking more than that because of the "use it or lose it" rule at my old hospital. *sigh* I really miss that. You don't have to ask me more than once to use all my vacation.

Oh well.

And one more thing - could everybody sprinkle a little pixie dust in Cynthia's and my direction in hopes that the Mine Train has soft openings while we are there. I REALLY want to ride it BAD!!!!!!!!

Now it's finally Time for an update -

Denied!

In my last update we had met up with Denny’s family and spent a lovely afternoon hanging out by the world showcase lagoon while drinking beer.

After we sat for a while it was time to get up, stretch, and continue our way around the World showcase.

As you may recall my nephew’s DW was gifted some instant FP’s for their whole party. They still hadn’t used all their Epcot ones. t offered to watch my nephew’s kids while the entire group used an instant FP on either Soarin’ or TT.

However, my nephew’s DW, M, did not acknowledge my offer. I know she heard me, but she said nothing. My offer just hung there in the air going nowhere fast.

She could have said, “thanks, but we are all going to ride something together” or “You really don’t need to do that, but thank you”.

Instead she said. Nothing.

Awkward.

Denied.

I didn’t push it. Rather I pushed on with them as the traveled the world showcase.

My nephew’s wife led everyone to Mexico. She was clearly the unofficial leader for the family and I don’t think she wanted to hear any suggestions or offers from me. *sigh*

And that’s OK.

So Denny & I just followed along. Sure, why not? I’m always up for a boat ride to see Donald.

After seeing Donald and the rest of the game we visited some more F&W kiosks. Don’t ask me which one(s) because I didn’t take pictures. I do remember considering the singapore sling, but instead I went for a glass of wine. One thing I love about F&W and that is sampling wine. Wine people! It’s right there in the name!

I had a lovely conversation with my middle nephew’s GF. She is a nurse and you know we nurses quickly find topics of mutual conversation that often befuddle other people. We talked for quite awhile and I really enjoyed her. She seemed smart, ambitious, and motivated. Great catch for my nephew!

Our FP window was quickly approaching, so Denny and I decided to go ride TT. Why not?

As much as Denny always acts like he’s riding it for me, his redneck ride photo proves once again that he really feels differently..

The smile never lies

When we finished the ride we decided to head back to the world showcase to see if we could reunite with the family. I do recall that we ran into my nephew, his DW, and the kids. I asked where everyone else was and the reply “Test Track”.

My nephew, his wife, and the kids were walking over to Figment and we decided to walk along with them. When we got near the entrance my nephew’s DW asked if we were going to ride with them and I replied “yes. I love Figment”. She seemed genuinely happy and surprised that we were going with them.

So maybe I read her wrong. I don’t know. Maybe its just stressful being the unofficial leader and trying to keep two kids and everyone else happy.

I was looking forward to saying “hi” to Figment. I figured we had just enough time to ride before we needed to head off to our dinner ADR.

And then guess what?

The ride was down. Figment was down. Can that actually happen?

Denied.

We didn’t really have time to go to another ride with them, so we said our goodbyes and we started walking back through the World Showcase to our dinner location.

But first a few pictures.

When we hit the world showcase it was pretty crowded again. No as bad as Friday or Saturday, but still fairly full.

I almost missed this next shot, but the paparazzi in me came through and I captured my most unusual picture of the day. Gotta love Buzz!

Perhaps he was going to MNSSHP. Perhaps not.

Mary Poppins was out in her usual spot near the IG

I just LOVE Mary Poppins. How cute it she? I can never resist the urge to take her picture.

Our dining location was a first for us. I made an ADR at Tokyo Dining. I love sushi, but Denny doesn’t . I figured there had to be something on the menu he could eat.

When I sat down to look at the menu I suddenly became overwhelmed. Maybe it was too many adult beverages, but suddenly ordering seemed like a chore and I really wasn’t feeling all that hungry.

So I decided to go for something easy.

Ginza - Shrimp & Scallop Tempura w/ Sushi Nigiri & California Roll. Includes seasonal vegetables and Sukiyaki beef rice. $28.95

This is a terrible picture, taken in the dark with my cell phone

Denny had the

Bento Box - Sliced Sirloin, Sashimi, California Roll and Tempura. Includes seasonal vegetables and Sukiyaki beef rice. $28.95

I enjoyed the sushi part of my entree, but I found the tempura and rice to be a little heavy. Next time I will just order sushi and forget about the tempura. I’m pretty sure Denny enjoyed his and he may actually have been brave enough to eat the California roll. He is a little freaked out by anything uncooked.

At the end of the meal we had this lovely surprise. Chocolate Ginger Cake!

I didn’t even realize I was still wearing our anniversary button. You rock Tokyo Dining! That cake was amazing! And you were the only restaurant that actually recognized our anniversary with a dessert!

After dinner we still had a few minutes to make our FP window for Soarin, but neither of us felt like walking to the other side of the park or rushing in any way. Since we had already seen Illuminations twice and we were destined to see it again, we headed out.

I took a bunch of pictures by the Boardwalk. Are you ready for more BW pics? I hope so!

Interesting perspective

The dolphin was in a cage. So wrong!

I love this picture!

Kardenni wasn’t out tonight, but Coney Island Chris was!

This guy was the ultimate nerd comedian

What is weird is I think this guy had massive tats on arms

He tried to trick this little girl into laying down on that bed of nails. Yup, even she knew not to fall for that!

But that did not deter Coney Island Chris from his bed of torture!

I think those nails are collapsing! (Hmmmmmmmmm....)

I’ll be honest with you, he was amusing, but not nearly as entertaining as Kardenni.

Sorry Chris!

When we got back to the room I decided I had to take a few nighttime pics of the Dolphin

So pretty at night!

And with that it was time to hit the sack. We had one more full day at Disney before we were heading out of the bubble to visit Saint Augustine for a few days.

The question is - how would we spend it?

Next Up - Decisions. Decisions. :confused3

:woohoo: our trips are getting so close! Fingers are crossed that the Mine Ride will be having soft openings. I will be so disappointed if we don't get to ride. Your 2015 plans sound great. You will :lovestruc DL!

Yay for free dessert and great night pics around the BW :thumbsup2

I KNOW!!!!!! We HAVE to get a soft opening! I will be so disappointed as well. I'm dying to check it out!

Your 2015 plans sound great. You will :lovestruc DL!

I know. You are another DISer who has got me convinced I need to go there. I really can't wait. I am just loving all the DL TR's and I can't wait to experience it myself.

Yay for free dessert and great night pics around the BW :thumbsup2

That dessert was really good and thank you!

Do you ever read an update and think you replied only to realize.. "nope". Well, that is what happened to me here... I really hate when I do that.

I am afraid I can not help you with your ticket dilemma. I too have been struggling. Then I thought the decision had been made for me because I was out of time... and then they extended the offer. :faint: I am going through a lot of what ifs myself... "what if I regret not getting it" seems to be at the top of them.

The bagels and lox you got at the wave buffet breakfast?

Ok, I may need to change my breakfast plans. Those look amazing!

Sounds like your breakfast with the old disfriends was excellent! I think husbands can be kinda hesitant when it comes to meets... so I am glad that Denny enjoyed himself. :thumbsup2

I do think the new fast pass system is a good one... it was a bit glitchy to start and it does take some getting use to. The idea that you can change your time on the fly wasn't even something I entertained last fall.

Sorry you lost your lens.. .that is a pain, I am sure. Glad you got something to make sure it didn't happen in the future.

That grapefruit beer... I totally forgot about that from your TR from last year. Wasn't that the one someone offered to let you take a sip of? In any case... I forgot I wanted to try it. Good thing that it won't be too long and I will be back for F&W again.

I have been a couple times to DLR in February. It was a great time! Not too hot or cold and the crowds (back then) were not horrid.

OH! I so hope your able to ride the mine train. I imagine that would be very frustrating.... it SHOULD be open.

That was weird for your nephews wife to not say a thing. Strange

Um... buzzlight year was... interesting. :rotfl:

Coney Island Chris looks funny enough.. but he doesn't exactly look like someone who would have all those tats on his arms.

Great pictures of the BW btw!!!

Your next trip is coming up so fast! I'm excited to read all about it!
Next years trips sound great! We are planning for late November 2015... Just sayin... ;)
Call me crazy but I hate when someone other than me tries to take the lead in Disney. I'm too much of a control freak for that! Good for you for being probably a lot calmer than I would have been! :lmao:
Wish I liked wine. food and wine sounds like fun if you like either of those things! :rotfl:
Boo for figment being down! I wonder which part was down. The scent sprayers? That's the only way I'll ride that again!
I'll admit to being way too picky to have ever tried Japanese food. Sweet about the cake!
Gorgeous Boardwalk pics!

I do that all the time! And I hate when I do that. I wish there was a way I could mark my subbed reports so I knew when I read them last. I just can't rely on my memory anymore! :rolleyes1

That's right! I actually borrowed that picture from the internet. But the lox were delicious. I just LOVE that breakfast food! And the whole buffet is really good and less expensive than most.

I just can't believe it disappeared. Seriously? I'm sure it must have rolled into the water. All fixed now!

Thanks!

Your next trip is coming up so fast! I'm excited to read all about it!

I'm very excited! I almost feel like I was just there. But it will be my last park trip for awhile since I didn't buy a new AP. I wonder if I will make it. :rolleyes1

Next years trips sound great! We are planning for late November 2015... Just sayin... ;)

Good to know. Are you going after Thanksgiving? That could be a nice time to visit.

Call me crazy but I hate when someone other than me tries to take the lead in Disney. I'm too much of a control freak for that! Good for you for being probably a lot calmer than I would have been! :lmao:

I definitely did NOT want to be the leader with a big group, but I was surprised that my nephew's DW seemed so passionate about the role. Oh well. I guess someone had to do it for a group that big!

Wish I liked wine. food and wine sounds like fun if you like either of those things! :rotfl:

:rotfl2: Plenty of other indulgences besides wine. But it certainly doesn't hurt that I really do enjoy sampling just about ALL wines!

Boo for figment being down! I wonder which part was down. The scent sprayers? That's the only way I'll ride that again!

:rotfl2: Do they close it for that? I know, weird that it was down. I thought it would be fun to see what the kids thought because its a perfect ride for them.

I'll admit to being way too picky to have ever tried Japanese food. Sweet about the cake!

That cake was SOOOO good. I'm not kidding! I would go there again just for dessert. :rotfl2:

Gorgeous Boardwalk pics!

Thank you!

Good to know. Are you going after Thanksgiving? That could be a nice time to visit.

Of course I am! Thanksgiving is in October, silly! :rotfl2:
Kidding! Kidding.
Let me go look up when your Thanksgiving is.
November 26th, 2015. Ok.
Hmmm I'd like to but we might not get to. It's a really busy time at work for me so it's not really easy to get time off. We were thinking roughly the 21st - the 28th, but I REALLY don't want to be there Thanksgiving weekend (I didn't even think of it!) It will probably be the week before that to avoid the Thanksgiving traffic and the busy season for our store (unless I get granted three wishes and use them all for some December vacation time! :lmao: :thumbsup2 )

Just for the record, I vote for MNSSHP twice. :)

pixiedust: for the Mine Train!!

"spent a lovely afternoon hanging out by the world showcase lagoon while drinking beer." Not gonna lie... I kinda lingered on that statement for a bit and just... visualized.

I haven't met Mary in so long, but what always stuck with me was the accent. I just LOVE the accent.

Your trip is just around the corner! :cool1:

What a bummer about your suitcase; I'd be reluctant to review the damage an airport did, as well.

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that there will be soft openings of the Mine Train mid-May!! It would be such a disappointment to miss it by a week or so.

Figment was shut down? I don't think I've ever heard of someone encountering that before. Usually, it's pretty dependable. Ah, well, at least you seemed to please your family by being willing to ride with them. :confused3

Ooh, that ginger cake is tasty. I'm glad you were given it at the end of your dinner. I don't know if it's because more people wear buttons or there's more guests in general, but it seems like you get "pixie-dusted" less now. Not trying to sound entitled, I'm just making a general statement. Even the "congratulations" and "Happy Birthdays" from Cast Members are infrequent.

I'm pretty sure all your BWV photos have convinced me to tour the resort one day. Before your reports, I would never have thought to go over to that area, but you make a good case for the place.:rotfl2:

Of course I am! Thanksgiving is in October, silly! :rotfl2:
Kidding! Kidding.
Let me go look up when your Thanksgiving is.
November 26th, 2015. Ok.

:rotfl2: Why do I always forget that Canadian Thanksgiving is a totally different holiday than American Thanksgiving! DOH! :rotfl2:

Hmmm I'd like to but we might not get to. It's a really busy time at work for me so it's not really easy to get time off. We were thinking roughly the 21st - the 28th, but I REALLY don't want to be there Thanksgiving weekend (I didn't even think of it!) It will probably be the week before that to avoid the Thanksgiving traffic and the busy season for our store (unless I get granted three wishes and use them all for some December vacation time! :lmao: :thumbsup2 )

You definitely DO NOT want to be there at all during American Thanksgiving week. I did it once. It wasn't bad the Tuesday before the holiday, but then it got crazy crowded. The crowds died down the Monday after Thanksgiving. So that's why I just assumed you would be going after American Thanksgiving. But I failed to consider you are in retail and that's your big Season.

I was actually toying with the idea of getting there right at the end of the Halloween festivities and staying for the Christmas stuff. But the second week of November might work as well. I am either looking at that or right after T'giving. Decisions. Decisions. Please let me know when you firm up your plans. :good vibes

Gotta get ready for my hair appt. Pre Disney hair cut! :cheer2:

Replies later tonight!

Anonymous10, Super sleuth, secret spy.......I love it! :thumbsup2 But also add in Super Planner.......you have some great future trips in the works.

The slow boat to Mexico is always a lot of fun. But this time on TT are you sure Denny is smiling again? Or was it a long hot day and he was responding to your pose??? :rotfl2:

I love the Epcot reverse fountain. Always a must do when it comes to pictures. :goodvibes

I've never done Tokyo Dining, but I enjoy Teppan Edo. I have seen too many mixed reviews I guess. I've never really gotten into the sushi attraction, although I did get to try a piece of Honey Roll recently and it was pretty good. I guess if I was with someone who knew my tastes and could recommend something to try, I might be more willing. I just hate to shell out the $$$ when I don't know if I will just throw it in the trash. Still, so great they surprised you with the Anniversary cake! :woohoo:

You got some really great pictures around the Boardwalk, especially capturing the colors and feeling in the dark conditions. Some crystal clear pics that look great!

I'm guessing it is hard to believe your trip with Cynthia is only a week away. I know you will be having a great time meeting up with Cynthia, Rosie, and all the other DISmeets you have in store! :cool1:

Lots of chatter on the Mine Train these past couple of days- here's sending you some pixiedust: because I want you gals to ride it and I wanna see pictures!

Odd about your offer to watch the kids just left hanging out there. :confused3

Once again, what a great eye for seeing things that make interesting and different photos- the roof on the Stave Church in Norway

I really, really like your pictures from the Mexico ride, especially the closeup pictures

Figment down, huh? It is probably down more than you would think, just nobody knows...

Tokyo Dining is on my must-try list. We love sushi, we love Bento boxes, Nate LOVES tempura! Not many reviews out there but the ones I have read have been positive.

Great nighttime pics at BW

:goodvibes

Oh you were so Denied!!!!!

On Both accounts. I guess I can understand wanting everyone to ride but hey - you offered at least acknowledge it.

You got some great pictures in Mexico!!! :thumbsup2

Glad you were able to have more family time and yay for a TT ride!!! Yes Denny is enjoying himself. :)

Dinner looks good. Have never tried Tokyo Dining. Not a big sushi person, yes the raw thing, but the sorry your Tempura was heavy.

I love the Boardwalk area.

Okay so I had a long response written out, but the DIS was hungry and ate it:headache: So if you don't mind i'm just going to sum up what I wrote:lmao:

Wow, how strange and awkward to get no response (and a little rude!)

Now that's a restaurant I haven't heard a lot about lately! Glad you enjoyed it :) We've been to Teppan Edo and really loved the food.

Oh my goodness, I do hope that you can make it out to Disneyland next February! The weather will be absolutely perfect and I think 4-5 days will be plenty. Gives you a lot of time to take in everything without having to be there from open to closing time!:cool1:

I do that all the time! And I hate when I do that. I wish there was a way I could mark my subbed reports so I knew when I read them last. I just can't rely on my memory anymore! :rolleyes1

I go to my subscribed list on quick links... often the ones I have visited will be lighter than the ones I have not. Course... not always. I just try and look at the list and then read any that have posts in the current day. It is hard to keep track for sure!

Wait! They extended the DVC offer? I went on the website last night after you posted this and I didn't see it. If I need another AP (like if I can't live without out one in October) I'll just buy the regular AP. I still want to see if I can go AP free for awhile. It's sort of a challenge.

Till tomorrow... you have to call in. For me...since it is an upgrade I have to call a different number that member services gave to me. Their hours are odd for me though...and I have not been able to get through while they are open.

That's right! I actually borrowed that picture from the internet. But the lox were delicious. I just LOVE that breakfast food! And the whole buffet is really good and less expensive than most.

YUM

It was really fun! I'm so glad we all got together and I'm really happy that Denny enjoyed himself and seemed very relaxed.

dismeets usually are fun and relaxed.

I took advantage of that - definitely. It was obviously much easier when I did it on my computer, but it worked out that day I did it on my phone - even though it took FOR-EVER! :rotfl:

I wonder if they increased their wifi power or something because fall I had a hard time getting on with my phone but by january it was quick as can be.

I just can't believe it disappeared. Seriously? I'm sure it must have rolled into the water. All fixed now!

That is so sad that it was lost...but some how kinda scary that it was lost into the water.

Actually, my offer was for a berry beer. The grapefruit beer was recommend by a man I started talking to at one of those little tables. I am so glad he recommended it or I probably never would have discovered it. Very yummy. Just so refreshing.

OH! Well, I will have to try the grapefruit... and maybe the berry. ;)

Good to know! I am really looking forward to seeing DL. It just looks like such a cute little place. Can't wait!

I am looking forward to going back. I just haven't been there that much since we started going to WDW in 2008. In fact, I think we have all of one trip since then. It is a great park in many ways.... with some parts seriously (IMHO) better than WDW. POT, IASW and the matterhorn! Oh..and carsland (we have been back since that) WOW, just WOW! It is hard to not fall in love with any Disney park though...so I guess it shouldn't be surprising that it is great too.

The dedication was yesterday but the official opening is not until LATE May. They have to have soft openings. PLEASE!!!!! I wish they would have a pass holder preview. That would be awesome.

Pass holder or maybe a part of member magic. :goodvibes

I know. I felt weird. I'm not sure what was going on. I think she was probably trying to be super mom. She is a really lovely girl and so good with her kids.

I think some people are unable to engage when the conversation involves something they either a. don't care about or b. don't like. I had a friend not too long ago who would avoid eye contact and act as though she did not hear what was said. (at best) Worst case she would flat out say she didn't care about what was being said so she didn't want to talk about it. :scratchin Then again...maybe that was the best because at least at the point I knew she had heard me and was at least acknowledging what I was saying.
