The Education Poll

I won't answer because at the age of 35, I'm back in school now to get the degree I never had.

I had some credits previously - enough to consider myself a college sophomore. (see, Megen, don't feel dumb). But now I'm going back for my nursing degree, and I don't know if I'll stop at the ADN (associates), BSN (bachelors) or more. I love being a student, so the sky's the limit.

All that being said, education is a wonderful thing but isn't everything. DH, with his trade school education, has done well for us over the years. That still is a higher education, but not considered as respectable as a "real" college degree. Not everyone is book smart or motivated toward schooling but still has a great deal of common sense and other skills and are smart in other ways.

I recently just got my Real Estate Salesperson license - so I'm pretty excited about that!!!

High school. I have some college, like a semester part-time. This is what happens when you marry at 19. I sooo regret not getting my education. I will probably go back to school once my youngest is finished with college. She's 11 now, so not anytime soon. And I'll be one of those curve-busters. When I go back to school I want to do WELL!

Then I became a number-cruncher for corporate retail, quite by accident, with no accounting education or background whatsoever. I was darn good at it too and did quite well doing that. Funny how things turn out, eh?
Now I'm a SAHM.

There are many in this world who have achieved greatness or wealth without a degree of any sort. I envy these people.

It's only a piece of paper. It doesn't mean anyone is better than anyone else. Again - it's only a piece of paper.

Thought about going back for PhD but don't have the cash to pay for it. Student loans are already killing me. *sigh*

Ok, so I haven't "actually obtained" it yet, but I will have my Masters of Social Work in TWO MONTHS!!! Does that count?

I do have a BA in Psychology and a BA in Spanish.

I have a BCM (Bachelor of Church Music). I did the church music track so that I wouldn't have just a BM (Bachelor of Music) because, well... I think you know.

In professional training I hold a FLMI (Fellow Life Management Institute) designation and am 3 courses away from an FFSI (Fellow Financial Services Institute) designation. (Each designation is around 10 college sized textbooks and are equivalent to two-year degrees, or so we are told...).

So, yep, I put my music degree to very good use every day working in... insurance administration.

I also hold a self-appointed degree in Useless Knowledge with which I hope to someday earn a retirement nest egg by winning Jeopardy.

And maybe down the road I'll get a second degree in History, because that is my other big field of knowledge.

I'm 38, just earned my BA 2 years ago and am currently almost halfway thru law school. I love being a student too, but I'll stop after the JD.

Bachelors in Nursing, Masters in Nursing (1994), should of picked up a Doctrate many years ago.....but all those trips to WDW kept interferring . Since i plan on retiring in my present job....I guess I will never actually do it.
