The Duggar's

I really wish there would be some kind of consequence of more than a certain amount of live pregnancies.

You don't really get a choice with multiples but after someone had say... 3 pregnancies, instead of getting ANOTHER tax credit, they should have to pay a tax.

Over population is killing the planet, our resources and our economy. These people should have to pay for the eventual hundreds of people that will come of them.
----------------
Or maybe we could pass a law that you are only allowed to have 1 child of each sex.. Two girls? Too bad - you have to get rid of one of them..:sad2:

I like the show & the family. They worked with their own hands on the new home they built, they manage their finances well and have their act together so if it works for them, more power to them I say! They all seem to be very social kids that seem well-rounded so I think Mom & Dad have done a great job raising them. If they want to welcome people into their lives by having the TV show and books, etc., that is their business. You either like them or you don't. I happen to like them:)

I think with all the reality shows on that don't offer good values, this is a refreshing choice. If it working for them, which it seems to be, kudos to them:cheer2:

I share the belief that God created men to be the spiritual head of the household. However, I was also created as an intelligent, worthy, valued woman. My husband would never do something that would hurt me, or I felt strongly against. And there is a lot of freedom in knowing that my opinion is valued, but I don't have to be up at night worrying about it. I know that my husband will make the right decision in the end. I used to be bothered by the idea, but my marraige has been much happier and harmonious since I came to accept this truth. We don't fight about things any more because I don't feel like I have to protect my turf or control everything. (Trust me, I'm definitely type A).

I'm sure my husband shares your relief at not having to be up every night worrying about running things in his family.

I agree there should be a head to every family, I just question why it has to be the male half of the equation. :confused3

I love the Duggars. I think they are a breath of fresh air in Reality Shows.

I totally agree. There is so much garbage on tv--not just reality tv--that it is nice to be able to watch something that isn't morally bankrupt.

I also think that if one of the girls wanted to go to college or be something besides the traditional woman role that they would NOT disown her. They seem like very loving people, who has said time and again that their children have a choice in what they become or how they date.

Now I don't know how they would react if a child of theirs is gay. But you can't how any family would react. My father's side of the family is VERY liberal, and yet my uncle was in the closet until he died.

I know that the Duggars have offered their children a choice, and have been open about their previous use of birth control.

Yeah, they say that they think the miscarriage they suffered early on in their marriage was God's punishment for using birth control. Not much of a choice in my book.

They really aren't that Christian if they are putting their lives on TV in this manner.

Dang, I missed that part in the New Testament where if you love Christ, your family can't be on television.:rotfl2:

Although a DIL and not a daughter, Josh and Anna's site says that Anna received a B.A. degree in Christian education in 2008. I don't know where it is from though.

we were joking about this the other day at work- how their wedding night will be all of 8 seconds of bliss if he even makes it that long LOL!

I was thinking the wedding night "effect" would happen at the altar with the first kiss!

Just had a good laugh, the commercial airing just now was for Plan B. The "oops my birth control failed" morning after pill to take.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:
I noticed the commercial, too!! I watched it because the whole idealistic/conservative way they live is just strange. Did you notice the comment Jim Bob made about the former boyfriends his wife had "left her with baggage" because she invested time and feelings with men other than himself. That was his rationale for "no intimacy". Comparing sex to "Legos" when talking to a twenty year old was just far out. It made for great entertainment. My DH just couldn't bare to watch....

Hey what did ya'll think about Cousin Amy--she seemed to have experience and was definitely from the other side of the family.:thumbsup2

I think Cousin Amy will say/do just about anything if it gets her more camera time.

The Duggars have said their children have a choice, but in reality there really doesn't seem to be much of a choice other than to follow in their parents' footsteps. On one episode, one of the girls (Jinger? Jessa?) was explaining that their parents talked to them about not having sex/kissing before marriage and the children chose not to do this. The off-camera producer asked if they could have chosen not to follow everyone else. And she said, "That's not an option." I can't imagine that if one of the kids said, "I would like to date a boy/girl that I may or may not marry, go on unchaperoned dates and maybe even kiss that person," that this would be allowed. At least not while the child was living on Duggar property. I see a lot of talk about choices, but few real choices. I would love for one of them to prove me wrong.

:sad2: I was actually upset that she ruined their wedding cake by smearing it on his tux---very bad form. When asked, Jim Bob stated that it was up to Michelle to stop having babies. How is that so when they do not use birth control---he is actually in control of that. I don't believe he uses control here because that is how he maintains control over her. I know this is my opinion after watching several of the shows---Michelle just seems more tired and weak since the last two pregnancies. She seems more fragile. Maybe it is becasue I am a nurse and sometimes we just get that sense about people and their health. :guilty:

I really hope if they continue to have kids that she and the babies are healthy. I respect their values of purity but wonder how realistic it is. I am looking for them Dec 21, 2012. For those of us who watch way too much doom and gloom armegeddon info on the Discovery and History Channel. I want to live with them so they can teach me how to build a house and make my own clothes. I am sure the Tator Tot Casserole is to die for.....::yes::

At the end of the day, someone needs to be the head. I share the belief that God created men to be the spiritual head of the household. I respect your opinion, and am happy you found something that works for your marriage. However, your truth would earn my husband a black eye if he tried to claim he was the head of our family. I would hope I would also earn one for such silliness. We are a team, we function as a team, and decisions are made as a team.

They follow Bill Gothard(some say he borders on being a cult leader and that he distorts the bible.
Here are some of his beliefs;

*Married couples are never to divorce for any reason, including adultery.

*Adult children are told not to leave home or get married without parental consent.

*Married couples must abstain from sex during the following times: during the wife's menstrual cycle; seven days after the cycle; 40 days after the birth of a son; 80 days after the birth of a daughter; and the evening prior to worship. Gothard claims that periodic abstinence will help produce healthier children, can cure infections, and decrease "the danger of genetic abnormalities."

*Listening to rock music, even Christian rock, is forbidden.

*Borrowing money or buying on credit is forbidden.

*Married women aren't to work outside the home.

Gothard even has rules on selecting makeup, preparing shopping lists, planning meals, picking dental plans, and choosing hairstyles, clothes, and vacation spots. Followers have said in published reports that he bans televisions in homes that buy his home-schooling program and that his ministry denounces almost every book but the Bible.

Adopted children, Gothard teaches, carry the sins of their biological parents with them. According to Fisher, Gothard wrote a letter to his followers in 1986 warning them of the evils of Cabbage Patch Dolls, which were very popular then. The dolls, which are "adopted" by their buyers in a written contract, caused strange, destructive behavior, according to the letter.
