The leader of the clan has been taken off the show for his anti-gay remarks.

Do you agree w/ A&E? Poll coming.

He was set up to fail by the question asked.

If he gives his biblical based beliefs on homosexuality he's going to get labeled "anti-gay" which is the medias favorite cause fight now.

If he lies, he's labeled a fake christian and the media would publically shame him over this.

It was a lose/lose question and I'm glad he stated his beliefs and didn't change it knowing the "fake media outrage" it would cause.

When you watch DD, you know what you are getting because they are clear about who they are. Conservative Christians. Excuse me, Conservative Christian Rednecks. I find Phil the least appealing of the lot and I've never been under any illusion that he was pro-gay. Anyone who is bothered by "yuppies" is likely not going to be a fan of homosexuality.

A&E needs DD a lot more than DD needs A&E. I would not be surprised if the entire family tells them to kiss off.

There are a butt load of things that I find objectionable or offensive or immoral or disgusting on many reality shows. You know what I do? I DON'T WATCH THEM IF THEY BOTHER ME! A&E didn't even have enough respect for the viewers to allow them to decide whether or not to stop watching DD. Geez, if I expected the networks to suspend every star I disagreed with, half the folks on TV might be out of a job. Let the people decide whether Phil goes or stays.

I am pro gay rights, but it bothers me that if you are not (and especially if your belief is Bible based) that the PC crowd has decided you are not worthy of breathing air. Sure, let's all be tolerant....except of conservative Christians. Seriously?

It is easier to be racist today than to disapprive of homosexuality. We are punishing those who think differently and that is a slippery slope I do not care to go down.

A&E made a big mistake here. If a network suspended the cast of Jersey Shore for being promiscuous and drinking like fish, they'd have had no show. But I guess drinking yourself into oblivion and humping anything that moves is peachy. Did they suspend the cast for making Italian Americans look bad? Did they make them set a good example for all the little Antonys and Bellas out there? Noooooooo! The show was what it was. If people didn't like it, they could turn the channel. DD should get the same treatment.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree. I don't have to agree with his feelings/beliefs, but he has the same rights to free speech that everyone else does. There a lot of people that dislike the fact that he speaks about his faith and that much of the show revolves around their faith, but he hasn't been banned from the show for those beliefs.

Amen to this post too!

Free speech means that the government can't punish you for speaking your mind. That's it. A&E is not the government

I think his remark was stupid and represents an entirely uneducated viewpoint (equating being gay with beastality....WTH?). And, I don't watch the show so I have zero skin in this game. However, I do think it's an overreaction on the part of A&E to take him off the show.

He gave his ignorant based beliefs. To say, as a Christian, you don't approve of homosexuality is one thing. To compare it to bestiality to just plain old ignorant.

He had every right to say what he said...Freedom of Speech. No one is arresting him. A&E had every right, as his employer, to take the action they did.

With all I've been reading today, I'm amazed at how clueless people are about what "Free Speech" actually means.

(rolls eyes) Maybe so, however nothing impedes one's right to turn the channel or not buy their merchandise if one disagrees with their beliefs.

If his "free speech" affects how people view A&E (which is partly owned by Disney) then A&E gets to make whatever decision they want about his employment.

Absolutely agree!!

I will also quote Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal -

"I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”

I just read another interesting article that suggested that the entire cast needs to come out in support of Phil Robertson & walk away.

Right now, Duck Dynasty is making loads of money for A&E - they need the Robertsons much more than the Robertons need them.

And viewers can stop watching in protest as well. In the end, A&E really isn't in power. The audience is. If the audience doesn't watch, the show is worthless to A&E.

I too believe he was doomed from the beginning of the interview, which by the way was published in January 2012 - almost a year ago. Convenient that it took almost a year to cause an uproar at the network.

I personally believe that the media along with a few "rights" groups could not handle the popularity of a show that depicts a family with christian values, guns, prayer and good old fashion antics.

A&E lost my family of 4 as viewers. I for one am tired of having various agendas forced down my throat because someone says something that they believe that is not politically correct. So what, get over it, don't like Phil and the gang, don't watch it.

I hope the whole family walks.

You may or may not believe that A&E overreacted, but it has precisely nothing to do with the first amendment or freedom of speech. I don't know enough about A&E's philosophy or show lineup to give an opinion on their actions. I've never seen Duck Dynasty, and it doesn't sound particularly appealing to me, but it's their right to show it, and their right to hold their employee to the standards they deem appropriate.

And networks have never been all about the first amendment- are you kidding me? They'll do whatever they can to avoid airing shows that malign their sponsors in some way.

Viewers have the same right to stop watching as A&E has to suspend him, cancel the show, or whatever else they choose. Yes, A&E IS in power...how are they not??? :confused3

I've never watched the show.

I'm a Christian and his comments were down right revolting. Kudos for A&E for giving him the boot.

I don't watch the show, but my kids' friends have talked about it so much we did end up buying Season 1 on DVD (we don't have cable.)

I am not into the show at all, it isn't my speed, but, I think they have the right to have it, as clearly many people like them.

As to the article&..I read the entire transcript. It really actually bothered me by the very crude nature of his comments. I am not going to post them or a link to them as you can all google, but :crazy2:

I also don't like the comment he made about beastiality&..I hear a lot of, "Well, if they let a man and a man get married, next they will let you marry your dog." It makes me cringe and I just don't get the leap&&:confused3

However, GQ chose to focus on the sin part&..which I did not get at all. If someone says they think homosexuality is a sin, you might get a little hot under the collar, but it isn't nearly as big of a deal as the comments this man made about anatomy or beastiality, at least not IMO.

I can't say too much more without being political or religious, but I think both sides are over-reacting.

While I do not agree with his stance on religious and social stances, he has a right to speak his mind on the show. That is what makes "Duck Dynasty" unique.

I do hope the whole family walks. They can afford to.

Now do I think Phil is ignorant, sure, that is why I would watch it. :lmao:

Because if there is demand for the show, it WILL be on the air somewhere. Too many dollars at stake.

I agree with this, why should every single one of us not get equal treatment in our beliefs.
