Could I do it?

We have been thinking about getting a car for a couple of days of our trip, jsut to get out and about to the shops, and Universal a bit easier.

Having had a look at google maps, the drive to the cruise port looks pretty much like one straight road.

I have never driven abroad, but living 2 miles from the M25 I'm ok with motorways and things.

It jsut seems a big step for me to drive in the States.

The drive to the port is really easy. Easy for me to say as I have been driving over there 17 years but can't see any difficulty it is more or less a straight route.
If you use Budget you just drive past the ships 2-3 mins on the right is their office, drop the car and they take you to the ships. On return stand in the Budget area and they come around within a few mins to collect you. Other rental companies will be similar.
If parking up car park is right next to the ship. Drive in, drop bags and pay for parking & park up.

Thanks Wayne,

We will drop the car off there and get the bus back to WDW. I know we could get the bus there, but I kind of want to check in as early as possible.

I guess there's always the possiblity of car sharing with someone on my crusie thread, have to wait and see. :)

It does look pretty simple. I know I'd be fine really, as I drive a big automatic here and love it, so it would only be the opposite side of the road thing, but it's a big step, and I've only been drive for 4 years.

Myself and many others find it far easier to drive on the other side of the road. The big problem I have is getting back into driving on the left again when we get back.

It is so easy!! ::yes:: You will regret not having done it sooner, I do! I only hired a car for the first time in Dec 2008 & will never go without one again. :thumbsup2 I honestly was used to driving on the opposite side within 5 mins, I had more difficulty when I got back to the UK & couldn't work out which side of the road I should be on! :rotfl2:

Driving in Orlando and over to Kennedy Space Centre (twice) was a breeze :)

Hi Torsie

Dave drives when we go to the states he was really nervous about driving over there but he loves it and said it is much nicer then driving over here

Wayne, have they changed the last bit of it?
When we last drove to port canaveral (several years ago), the signs indicating where to exit off the main highway weren't very good and we were very confused.
we did manage to exit where we were supposed to, but we were worried for a few minutes (until we saw the ships)..

is it still confusing? or have they improved the signs?

No they hadn't last year. Easy enough to find the port its just the exit to the ships, I was going to drop Karen and bags at the ship then take the car but missed the turn off so went straight to Budget and we took bags on the shuttle bus.
Easy enough to turn around but its annoying. Simple if going to Budget or other rental offices.
