Alright, so this one's just for fun, but what do y'all think will happen when the dreaded 2042 rolls around and all these contracts expire? Crazy price hike for direct? Hotels converting to cash only? Owners offered an extension before the date? Tear the whole thing down and build something new? Amazing availability for the folks with longer contracts? I am gunna guess that the price for direct has a dramatic increase because now they can change the contracts to only allow people to have access to these resorts if they buy direct. And maybe in the future the savings won't be as great for new DVC members, perhaps maybe for the life of the contracts newbies will only save up to 35% instead of 50%, but people will still buy because it's still a savings.

Oh I'm also wondering what happens to those who are direct and have access to all these hotels already? Can they write up totally new contracts and take the access away for direct members to certain hotels they have access to now? Give me your best guess!

Yes. When a resort reaches expiration, it is no longer part of DVC, and there is no requirement that it be replaced.

Disney has not yet done this, but it is also possible for them to create "DVC 2.0" which would require a buy-in to the new inventory to have easy access to it. That could be separate buildings or it could be higher-end inventory within an existing building (Wyndham does this with its Presidential Reserve product*).

In short: the only thing you know you have access to is what you have access to when you buy. Nothing else is guaranteed.

----
* Presidential Reserve (PR) is, essentially, a completely different timeshare system that has exchange privileges with the Club Wyndham (CW) resorts. When a PR owner books non-PR inventory, some PR inventory is moved into Club Wyndham to balance the books. Some of the PR inventory is also "seeded" into Club Wyndham, so CW owners aren't completely cut off absent a PR owner exchanging out, but the CW owners' access to it is limited.

My guess is VBR and HHI will be sold. BCV and BWV are valuable real estate. I would expect both to be rebuilt as DVC 2.0. OKW is anybody's guess. An option would be to wall off a neighborhood and rebuild the beginnings of a new resort, however DVC owners actually own a fraction of specific villas so I am not sure if that is legal. Will they have to wait out those of us who are 2057 owners?

I do not believe DVC will offer any extensions.

The last two years will be a nightmare. I would borrow 2041 into 2040 and use up those points as soon as possible. If you have a reservation in 2041 and can't go for some reason, you could be out of luck with availability.

We sold all our 2042's and will be too old to worry about it anyway! :ssst:

Selling those HHI and VBR is the smartest play, maintenance and insurance are outpacing everything every where but especially those locations.

OKW is one of our home resorts and 2042 is our expiration date. We never considered the contract extension. We too are curious what will happen as the date approaches.

Although I'm not really concerned about what DVC will do in 2042 (we'll be 90 and 91, doubt we'll care), I just hope we're around long enough to find out what DVC plans on doing. Inquiring minds are curious.

I think Hilton head will be on the news when the loyal Hilton head people chain themselves to the rooms in 2042.

My prediction is prior to 2042 boardwalk Inn will be turned into DVC as a new resort later to have boardwalk villas renovated and added to the boardwalk in DVC.
For beach club they will either make the whole beach club cash only since it sells very well. Or they will tear down and build a tower where the current beach club stands for DVC right now it’s rather inefficient.

Nobody knows what Disney will do in 2042. Disney does not even know!
But we do know that Disney will not do the same thing they did with the OKW extension debacle!
(I am a 2042 owner)
Well yes no one knows, just for fun speculation 😊

I guess i better try to stay at those resorts as much as I can! I've never stayed at boardwalk or beach club, I would love too, hopefully for next summer I could get something!

I guess if I REALLY end up loved bwv or beach club I would consider a small contract (50 point) just to stay there. Can't justify a bigger one. Also people speak of this sandy bottom pool and that does not sound appealing to me, I hate sand 🤣🤣

My guess is that every prediction in this thread and other in the forum will all be wrong and DVC will decide to do something no one expected instead
I take back my last predictions, you are absolutely right 😂

I hope they build something with more rooms and a "waterpark" again

Feel free to not answer this or post a link because I'm sure this has been discussed numerous times here lol, but why was the OKW extension such a disaster? Is it because people were just not interested and now they will be stuck with selling that hotel again after 2042?

That is funny!
DHHIR owners are very loyal!
And many are hoping that DHHIR stays in the DVC portfolio somehow past 2042!
