Hey guys!

Most of us have probably heard the rumors about how the Dragon Challenge is supposedly closing for good.

Before the summer I heard that it might close in September.

Have you guys heard any updates on that?

Best regards to all!

Part of me has been wishing these rumors were false because we loose 2 good coasters. However if they are replaced with a Potter/Fantastic Beasts SFX coaster that could end up being really cool. Especially if it is given the same attention as everything else in the WWoHP.

As long as the new one is completed before our December trip - or the current one is not closed yet before our December trip - LOL

I haven't heard anything more and am hoping it was a bogus rumor - those are great coasters!

I got the impression that it wasn't a bogus rumor. Craig on the podcast felt pretty confident that it was going to be closing, not sure when though. He used to work the ride. He said that it has some major issues that are not fiscally fixable.

Also, I don't think it will be Fantastic Beasts, unless Universal can get the rights to it. They don't have the rights now; that's why there is no merchandise in the parks.

That rumour has been around for a while. Haven't heard anything more lately.

I just hope if it's true they replace it with something really cool. For some reason I feel like if they tear down DC they aren't going to replace it with another big steel coaster and that makes me sad.

I wouldn't be heart broken about it honestly at this point. The main thrill of it, in my personal opinion, is gone, as the big gasp of it all was the "dueling" concept. Then when they decided to use it for Harry Potter I was disappointed as all they really done was add banners for the champions outside, displayed the Ford Angelia (which has no relation to the concept), and put the Goblet of Fire on display. Also, it's more of a hassle to get onto the ride more than a breeze as well, since now all users are required to store their belongings, when their locker count is nowhere near the capacity as the other rides that have the same requirement since it's an older ride who's never had a huge refurb.

I have a feeling if any ride was to go, it would be Dragon Challenge, as some peak days it might get a decent wait, but more times it's a low wait time compared to others, especially Flight of the Hippogriff (which is another reused ride), which usually has a very length wait time and is popular enough to be an addition to the Hollywood WWOHP.

The rumors have been swirling long enough to make me think that if it isn't happening, I know it's at least been heavily considered. With this much chatter, I can't imagine them ever not considering replacing it. I have a feeling eventually, whether now, or much later, it's going to happen.

I was rewatching the old movies the other day and thought a ride based on the Weasley's car (and the ensuing adventures) would be a great ride. Getting chased by the Hogwart's Express, the Whomping Willow, and the arachnid invasion would combine nicely with a soaring view of London and the castle. I'm not sure how they would do it, but I know it could be good.

Absolutely agree. The feral Ford Anglia ... think of the possibilities.

Now you're just asking for a circle vision 360 motion simulator... ;)

If anything, they can cut down the unnecessarily long queue for a new attraction.

Between the queue and the ride itself, Dragon challenge takes up such a large footprint that if removed, they'd have a lot of space for something new and exciting Potter-wise.

So I'd be ok if it were to go, provided that what goes in its place is spectacular.
