The Dove World Outreach Center plan to publicly burn several hundred copies of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11. This has been condemned by Hillary Clinton and Gen David Petraeus, the top US commander in Afghanistan, said on Monday that the action could cause problems "not just in Kabul, but everywhere in the world".

How will this improve things?

It won't. Hatred never does.

Just as a lot of Americans are ignorant enough to lump all Muslims into one bunch, a lot of ignorant Muslims will lump all Americans into one bunch because of this action.

Hatred and intolerance need to stop, or our self-annihilation is virtually assured.

To that minister/pastor guy: Freedom of Religion. This is disgraceful and disgusting.

What he is doing makes my skin crawl as a Christian and a human being. I saw on the news this morning they are burning him in effigy in some Islamic nations. He doesn't fathom the kind of hornet's nest he could stir up with this crazy demonstration.

And I kinda hope he does try to burn them because I heard the fire department will be standing by with hoses at the ready, I'd love to see them blast the crap out of his pyre, lol!

Why not just deny him (and his) any media coverage? Make it a local event instead of an international circus.

It's amazing what people will do in the name of religion. Hopefully, the Muslim community won't hold all Christians accountable for the act of this man and his followers.

I would hazard to guess that since this thread's been here for six hours, has only 10 replies (11 counting this one) and no one's arguing over the subject matter (probably because anyone reading it is likely in agreement), this probably isn't a very serious infraction of the politics/religion rules.

Yes, you can be absolutely legal about it and quote the rules all you want. But it is my belief that the rules are mainly about keeping things peaceful on this board. When people break the peace, rules must be made and/or enforced. It seems to me that this 'illegal' thread is sort of like the Salvation Army bell ringer: apparently non-denominational and pretty much background noise.

JMO. Others may vary.

Exactly.

Regarding the topic (Dove World Outreach) I think (hope) that we, as a population, have finally reached the point where righteous indignation and melodramatic outrage no longer seems like the go-to emotion. If we put instances like these in their place, they lose whatever news-worthy value they ever had and the people perpetrating them stop because no one's watching anymore.

I'm tired of hearing about it. If it's legal for this lunatic to do it, let him but stop giving him all the press and airtime. That's what these types want and thrive off. But at this point it's too late because he's getting lots of airtime and people are getting their burquas in a wad, so I think he's achieiving his goal.

Seems to be more outrage over him doing this than for people to burn the flag... that's what I think is sad.

Wow, politics AND religion.

I am questioning this guy's religion. There are only 50 in his "congregation" and he sounds very much like a Fred Phelps kind of guy and the Westboro Baptist Church which protests at the funerals of our fallen heros to be deliberately provocative. What might work is less attention paid to this nit wit but that won't happen.

The Dove World Outreach Center.

Some outreach. I'm guessing someone will be outreaching to slap the man silly real soon.

This issue is sort of like the mosque/WTC site debate.

While he has the right to do whatever he wants with whatever materials he chooses, the decision is the appropriate one.

I agree with the other posters who've said it's sad the outrage over this is so much more than the outrage Americans have shown over the UNITED STATES flag being burned.
