The Dopey Palindrome Challenge, FW connection UPDATE 1-12-2015

Yep it's coming up quickly. About to get real...

I am happy to say I am caught up on my mileage finally and am facing 12.5 miles this weekend. The good thing is, though, the forecast for those days looks good so it will get done (with lots of muttering and complaining, though, while looking for sympathy).

John, you know your body but don't push yourself too hard to complete these other events if it jeopardizes your WDW Marathon weekend. We want you in peak working order in early January.

Back again Kris in two weeks? Wow - and I will leave the 14 miles with you for now (although I have that distance scheduled for the weekend before Christmas). :upsidedow

I know it is crazy but since the RV is new to us we are trying to get every bit of use out of it. Hubby wanted to go somewhere in Dec and i was like well it has to be south so we can enjoy it. Disney is the logical choice. Plus Mallory loves it, nice and flat and she loves the dog park. I am not looking forward to the drive but in one shot in the RV it is 8.5 hours. Going down we do it in 2 days, but the drive home is one shot. I am excited though for Jan we are going to stay for two weeks. It is not vacation but we can work from the RV so it will be two weeks at Disney but really only a couple days for the park, plus that funny running thing.

I am with you Bama Ed, looks like decent temps for the weekend so my 14 should be ok just need to squeeze it between potential rain.

Keep on truckin---you-all :thumbsup2

GUESS WHAT????

I got out at 0630 today and did 4.25 instead of a 5K.

Should have gone back to bed. :sad2:

THE END doh

Jess-eee? :rotfl:

I am proud of me. I get it. :thumbsup2

Glad somebody else understood. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

If I can't pound the pavement, I'll pedal over it. Got in 64 miles on my bicycle this morning and I think it might have worked out some knots in the muscles.

That was fun (NOT).

I just got back from a 12.5M run. I had put it off yesterday when we had some rain come through in the morning and it was a little breezy. Today was sunny and cool but I made one critical mistake. I under-fueled before the run.

This morning I ate one slice of cold pizza for breakfast before I went to church then came back to watch the College Football Playoffs selection show (CF is also a religion here in Alabama ). Show was over about 12:10pm then laced 'em up and drove over to a neighborhood with sidewalks, low vehicular traffic, and a loop that I only had to run twice (hate seeing the same sights over and over).

But I didn't eat anything other than that one slice of pizza all day (plenty of h2o though). Finished the run around 3pm and drove home but the old brain-hands-foot synchronizations were less than perfect. I was light-headed but thankfully it's a short drive. Once home and got a PB&J in me (two, actually, and crunchy of course not smooth) I felt more connected.

Only one long run left in 2 weeks and we are a month out. Gonna try to hold it together till then. :surfweb:

Bama Ed think of it this way you know something NOT to do. I would say though that cold pizza (while right now sounds amazing) not so good for fuel before a long run. Am glad you got out there and got it done though.

I have had a few issues this week, ok one issue, now my right knee is bothering me. Definitely runner's knee. Was concerned that i may not have enough time to train but thought i had even spaced things out. My knee started hurting after last sunday's run. I still managed my weekly runs but on friday, my rest day, my knee was barking. I had planned 14 on saturday and then 6 on sunday, but i was with Bama Ed and was not running 14 in the rain. I thought i might do the 6 but i decided my knee might like the rest. Instead i did an easy elliptical, some strength training, and lots of foam rolling. It helped I got my butt out there today for 14. I did experiment this morning and had a light Core Power before my run to go with my PB and J. I used to drink ensure, but i like the taste of Core Power better. No issues. I did gel at miles 7 and 11. I actually managed a good pace but at 12.5, the knee was screaming. My last two miles were slow but i got through the 14. One more long run that i am thinking will be on Xmas eve. it basically splits this run and the marathon.

My knee is ok. It hurts but not as bad as i expected. I am foam rolling like crazy, but i am tired now and even my feet hurt. I can't imagine i still have 12 more miles to go.

Just keep running, just keep running!

Thought i would post the link of the pups pictures taken last week. There are a ton of them, but awesome. It was quite challenging to keep them together. I felt like I had two year olds, they were not bad but no one will sit still.

Bama Ed totally forgot about the props for the #1 seed. Unfortunately I am really from the midwest so a Big 10 girl by heart. Its hard for me to root for OSU, not my favorite Big 10 team but it is what it is.

Unfortunately our SEC team is Auburn. They have a great vet school. My first dog, Bear had TPLO surgery at Auburn, and they diagnosed Mallory. Wish they could help her but not much can be done for DM except therapy.

Good luck!!

Bama Ed, will you still be at the Fort for the Championship game?

 4 weeks to go!!! :woohoo:

Kris-very nice pictures

Ed-I learned a long time ago to always bring a gel and water with me.

Well thanks Kris but being #1 means people are gunning for you. I'd rather have an underdog role but don't feel like you HAVE to pull for Ohio.

Unfortunately our SEC team is Auburn.

You're right. That is unfortunate - not everyone can be a Bama fan. But they do have good animal care programs at The University of Auburn.

Will you still be at the Fort for the Championship game?

No I will be heading out on Sunday morning for home (day of the Marathon) but I do have a plan to see part of that race before I leave. You might find me on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I'm debating about bringing along a noisemaker of some sort. :cheer2:

And John, you're not planning to do a weekly countdown post from here to Race Week, are you? Please don't - you'll make me more nervous. :scared1:

I can't believe 4 weeks. The 14 miles took a toll on the knee. I have not run all week. I will say it is much better today than Monday, but after being out walking dogs for an hour, it is definitely not 100%.

John advice needed and Bama ed if you have any to share. My plan was 16 miles on dec21, but since I would be just back from the fort, I thought the 16 on dec 24. Well right now am not sure that is a good idea either. I am planning on ellptical tomorrow and run on sun. Not sure how far, supposed to be 8. Might try for 6. Just trying to decide how far on dec 24. Thinking 10 miles and then walking. I think I need to get a lot of walking in as I think I will be walking a lot of the full.

Oh that accident is my doom. I know the knee is a result of the accident. Will definitely take some time to heal up after disney. Guess I am in for some sprint tris. More swimming and biking and less running.

My knees have not been well since IMFL on Nov. 1st. Actually, there was a slight issue before but now it is not slight.

I'm getting in a wounded longer session for time and distance and feel it is OK providing things feel fluid while in the process. Doing yours on the 24th allows sufficient recovery time.

Well I got 6 in. The knee does not feel great but I am still walking. I have to see how the rest of the night goes, it can't be bad though I am at the Fort.

Keep plugging away.

Kris and John,

You folks are seriously into this running stuff (unlike me who is a complete amateur). But give your bodies a rest and recover period because pushing yourself to the edge is an "iffy" proposition. :scared:

One long run left coming up sometime this weekend. :cool1:

Tick tock. :hourglass

Then all that will be left is to watch the Orlando weather forecast and hope for sunshine on the trip and race morning temps is the mid-40s to 50. :beach:

Bama Ed

I hear ha Bama ed. I ran 4.5 today but the knee is barking. Think it will be less running to save the knee. I am already undertrained so trying not to be injured too.

Funny I have been scouting accuweather for the last week. I keep praying to the weather gods. To be honest I would prefer 50s and not 40s. We can comprise at 52 the entire time with partly sun skies and no rain!

This commitment just became more real.

I went onto the DisneyRun website and downloaded the Marathon weekend Digital Guide (the big pdf file that was a magazine-type handout last time I ran at WDW). I checked it out for spectator viewing info, what time to show up at the EPCOT parking lot (no later than god-awful 4am), and so forth.

Oh and there is the little matter of the waiver. ::yes::

To pick up your race bib with your official number and to officially "check in", you have to sign a waiver (read every word of it :rotfl2:) that basically hold Disney harmless should I croak during the race. It's the typical lawyer boiler plate with a font small enough to fit on one page. But there is plenty of room for my name (both printed and signed).

But the waiver does have my number and my starting corral assignment (yea - not in the last corral [but close to it]).

Yep, I can't claim 100 shares of Disney/ABC/ESPN if I trip over my shoelaces in Frontierland (I was going to lay claim to Pirates of the Caribbean).

Boy, am I going to celebrate post-race Saturday night.:drinking1
