i would never dream to post negative things on a specific disney thread. that is just not nice. i was taught, if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all.




i have nothing against conversation but after going thru the threads today, i realize there is too much negativity being posted. we like the dark side, it is our type of magic. plus, many of us here go to both parks and not just a one time event. we enjoy spending time with our families at happy places.

Um...well, it HAPPENED at Disney for one thing...

But if you read my other posts, it's not about Disney...it's a tourist thing...and I realize it can happen anywhere. It's a story I find amusing is all.

Gee, it would seem people could see from my name that I'm not against Disney...I enjoy Disney AND Universal/IOA so I have the best of both worlds...I guess I'm glad I'm open minded and can enjoy everything they all have to offer!

Both entities have things I love and things I don't care for...and competition is a good thing...but I find no reason to have to choose one or the other.

I agree with you. I just thought you were trying to say that everyone at WDW are lemmings, unlike people everywhere else.

I think I speak for a lot of people with a short statement.

I LOVE the disney magic.

I LOVE the US experiance.

Disney does some things better...US does some better. Lucky for me I am allowed to goto both (heck even on the same trip)

Disnoid - has a certain ring to it, I like it! I've literally bought WDW - hook, line & DVC. My heart (and TS) is there but, it's nice to actually venture beyond the 47 hallowed square miles of the mouse house.

The commercial is a hoot, didn't go far enough in my estimation to attract the crowd they're looking for. For some park goers, one emersion @ the Mouse's house is plenty...different strokes, etc. It certainly got a buzz going. Even if Mom's offended by it, Jr. will be clamoring all year for the chance to be .
I am a Univ.(especially the Loews hotels ) convert as an add-on to my WDW experience. Just can't imagine visiting the parks while off-site, FOTL is the absolute greatest innovation in theme park marketing - PERIOD!

It's certainly an interesting marketing strategy. But, I wonder if alienating some of Disney's customers is a smart thing to do. I have a few of the old Universal planning videos. They used to sell themselves by suggesting that you check them out during your WDW vacation, as well as pointing out how great a destination resort they are. This was not that long ago, post IOA.

This strategy is a complete departure. Honestly, that comparison chart does paint WDW in an "old and busted" light. It doesn't say "WDW sucks, we're great" but it might as well. I wonder what percentage of Universal guests fall into these buckets:

1. Guests on vacation with WDW as primary destination, also spending some days at Universal
2. Guests on vacation with Universal as primary destination
3. Locals

This strategy seems aimed at attracting more of group 2, but it has the possibility of turning off some of group 1.

Hard to tell if it is working in thier favor. The 2004 to 2005 attendance trends clearly showed a large advantage for WDW vs. Universal. It will be interesting to see if this campaign swings the numbers in the other direction this year.

I am a huge Disney fan. I have been to Sea World and Universal. SeaWorld was OK but I didn't care much for Universal. I just feel like the park is dated.

Dated? I went to Disneyland in 1957 and they still have some of the same rides. How many times can the Jungle Cruise's butterfly wings 12" to 1 foot joke be funny? The back side of water?
I think a lot of us Universal fans go there because there are less people and when the on-site hotels came out with FOTL it blew WDW out of the water.
Touring WDW has become the drudgery of feedlot cattle.

We were at AK this week and the crowds just make the whole experience unenjoyable. Strollers blocking paths everywhere, and people just tripping over eachother. I hope that Universal crowds never get like that. It really, really ruins it.

We really noticed that difference in demographics doing both Universal and Disney the same day. Most Disney units seem to involve kids under 10. Most Universal units seem to involve kids over 10. It makes for a better moving crowd.

The other thing we noticed is that Universal patrons don't need instructions to wash their hands like at Animal Kingdom. They should have included instructions on how to put used paper towels in the garbage because the washrooms at AK were a mess.

That can happen everywhere and has nothing to do with Disney or Animal Kingdom specifically. I've seen messy restrooms in the Universal parks too, actually at a higher percentage of overall restrooms than at the 4 Disney theme parks (at least in 2003). Go figure. All experiences vary a little and at any given time you're going to encounter this almost anywhere you go.

I don't think NBC Universal will be settling for being a less-crowded also-ran to WDW. So, the dreams shared here that Universal will always draw fewer guests is probably going to be considered bad for the long term existence of the parks.

I saw something much more disgusting at IOA in 2003 in a restroom. The kind of thing that made it hard not to vomit. I feel bad for the poor soul that had to go in and clean that mess up and it appeared to have been intentional.

a lot has changed in the 3 years you have been to universal since it was 03 when you noticed that.

i have not seen what you described in all the years i have been going to universal.

disney used to be kept up well until 2 years ago i noticed things in the washroom i wished i hadn't ...and i do disney yearly also.

I agree that WDW upkeep has taken a slide, while ticket prices continue to climb. I wasn't trying to single out Universal, as much as I was trying to say that you can find something bad anywhere from time to time.
