The Disneyland Hotel Superthread

The last time I was at the Disneyland Hotel the security entrance near the Sourcer’s Hat was closed and we used a new one toward Paradise Pier. Is the checkpoint by the Hat permanently closed or has it reopened?

I booked Disneyland Hotel for July, but based on recent permit applications there are expectations of the monorail being closed for the foreseeable future.

Assuming the monorail is closed during my stay, how annoying is the walk? I have never been to Disneyland but hate, hate, hate Disney Springs and it feels like Downtown Disney is the same atmosphere. I'm starting to seriously reconsider the good neighbor hotels...

The walk is not bad at all maybe 10 min? DTD is MUCH smaller than Disney Springs, although the atmosphere is somewhat the same I guess. Shops, music, restaurants. While it is true, you can get an off property room closer to the park entrance, it isn't like the area you walk through to get to the parks is that much better (IMO), unless you are directly across the street. I have never used the monorail to get into the parks because I always found it much faster to walk, and the main gate is better for morning rope drop too. Early in the morning DTD is also very. much dead quiet. It does get increasingly busy as the day goes on. Have you looked at the Grand Californian by any chance? That sounds like you would love it. The walk from there is nothing and you barely have to enter DTD to get to DL, plus there is another entrance directly into CA, which means you don't have to step foot into DTD if you don't want to.

First off, the monorail is great for mid-day breaks at DLH. But I wouldn't use it for rope drop. It gets delayed too often. Once you've been stuck there until park open and realize you still have to hoof it through DTD and get behind all the people who were now ahead of you is enough to cure you of that.

I would book a spot near the crosswalk and use the saved money for a fun splurge. Maybe WOC dessert party or Premier Pass for a day.

Oh, bummer! I hadn't heard the monorail would be down and I'll be at DLH in April. Maybe I'll switch to the Grand.

To answer your question...

The walk is 10-15 minutes depending on your group and speed. DTD can be busy at night so you're navigating crowds, but it's pretty quiet in the morning. I've never found the crowded times bad enough to want to avoid staying there. I like it much better than Harbor Blvd, which has its own issues.

If you do go off property I'd suggest looking into Candy Cane Inn. They have a shuttle, but if you want to walk it's only 10 minutes or so. Candy Cane Inn is on the same side of Harbor as Disneyland so you don't have to cross the street, and much of it is on a quiet woodsy path parallel to Harbor.

@crystal1313 from the boards has a youtube channel with real time walk videos so you can get an idea of what it's like to walk down DTD or from a good neighbor hotel.

If you are looking at rope dropping, Naples and Tiendita don't open until 8 am. Stores don't open until after 9 am. DTD is pretty calm in the morning, with everyone walking straight to the parks.

The monorail from DTD drops you off at the far end of Tomorrowland (almost at Harbor Blvd). It is pretty anti-climatic and out of way, resulting in a trek to back to see the rest of the park. I wouldn't use it as your entry on the first day.

I generally do not recommend guests use the monorail to enter Disneyland. Exiting is fine, I suppose. But, I believe the better entry is from the front gates so that the story of Disneyland can unfold as intended to be told.

Also if take the monorail, try to pick back half of it. They exit the front toward Autopia long serpentine decent. The back goes down the stairs directly toward the Matterhorn. (Elevator that end available). Quick out and route to your first ride.

Concur,

we regularly take it for mid day breaks or going home when tired but there's almost always a decent line that they don't start scanning til close to park open, and the first train rarely leaves at park open, you're much better off as a serious rope dropper going through the main gate.

if you're pulling up after breakfast etc, hop on the monorail.

1) when will the monorail be closing? We arrive 04/04. Thanks for any info.
2) Goofy’s Kitchen is open for “springtime” as of today, but it does not include Easter Sunday. Does anyone know if that reservation drops separately due to the price difference? Or is it already sold out?
