The Disneyland Hotel Superthread

We're staying at the DLH for the first time, I'm super excited but I feel a little in over my head. We've stayed at GCH before and it was easy, we didn't care where they put etc. But it seems like with DLH people are requesting specific towers etc. so what do I need to know? We plan to take advantage of the early entry, so what would be the best tower to request to be at security early?

All of the towers are pretty close together, but some prefer being in Adventure because it is closer to DtD. What room category did you select? That can have an impact on which tower they put you in.

Adventure tower is closest to security, but none of the towers are super far away from it. Some people really like Fantasy tower because that's where the lobby and shops are. Others prefer Frontier because some of the rooms have balconies. My favorite is Adventure because I like to get club level and the E ticket lounge is in that tower.

Order in terms of being close to security:
Adventure
Fantasy
Frontier

They're all so close together, it's probably a matter of a 2 vs 5 minute walk, really.

We're in a deluxe room. It kind of sounds like it doesn't really matter where we are, they're all close, so I don't think I'll bother putting in a tower request.

Yeah, deluxe can be in any of the towers, most likely facing the pool on a lower floor. You could put in a request for Adventure tower and may even get a lower DtD view (obstructed by trees), but otherwise I think any of the towers are great. The DtD view is our favorite.

We‘re currently booked at the Disneyland Hotel in a Standard room for four nights in early November. I’d love to get a standard club level but they’re sold out for our nights and the club level for premium is quite a bit more. Anyone have any insights if those different levels of rooms start to become available close to the reservation with cancellations? I’ve been checking obsessively everyday hoping it pops up but if that seems to never happen I’ll stop holding onto hope lol.

Or thoughts on if an upgrade to Premium CL is worth it for the better view and extra amenities/food? It’s an extra $450 per night. It will be me, my husband, and our three year old for my first trip in 20 years!

I booked DL hotel last night in a premium pool view room but quickly changed it to a new SV deluxe studio. Unsure if that was the right decision or not - I LOVED the theming of the regular rooms, and having a high floor pool view - but we need 2 queens (it’s a mother daughter trip) and I read it’s not guaranteed for a party of 2 to get 2 beds because they usually go to families with more then 2 guests. Is that still true - Any thoughts?

Edited to add this is my Mom’s first (and likely only) trip to Disneyland. We were originally going to stay in an off site motel across the street but the prices there were sky high (assuming due to it being a convention week) so we figured we might as well splurge and stay on property!

This is a perfect synopsis.

Although I will add that the extra few minutes to get to Frontier will seem like the longest few minutes of your life at the end of the day if you have little kids LOL. On my first trip to DLR (not being a west coast native), before I started to do the family trip planning, my 4 went with MIL. She did all the bookings and didn't really know to put requests in for location, as her primary concern was for connecting rooms. Among the many missteps (since I trusted the native west coasters to know things), the decision was made to skip bringing a stroller since it was such a "small" theme park and the hotel was so "close". Our kids were newly-6yo and 2.75yo. Good lord, that walk back to the room, in what had to have been the absolute furthest away possible location in Frontier, swapping the toddler-carrying back and forth, seemed for.ev.er. They are teenagers now, and every time I go to any theme park, I ask DH "what on earth were we thinking, leaving the stroller at home that time??"

I agree with this being a prefect synopsis!! I wish I could of found this when I was 10+ YT videos ad countless posts trying to figure out the difference LOL I personally chose the Frontier(I I am 'hoping' nothing is guaranteed) when booking our family 2 bedroom suite in hopes for getting a balcony. The little extra walk isn't a deal breaker for us because our kids will be 15 & 5 -- I say that now but talk to me day 5 end of day 🤣 I have been mentally going back and forth between DLH & GCH but the reality is 100% when it comes to rooms I LOVE the look of the DLH. I really think it will be making some core memories:p for the kids 1st trip! With that said everything about the GCH when it comes to the lobby and all the extra I like it, but then I think about how much time I have ever spent in the lobbies. The distance isn't a big deal breaker for me, but even will all that the FOMO(which I feel stupid saying that) has me still looking at the GCH. If we weren't going over the Christmas and the difference between 1 and 2 bedroom suite wasn't $500 a night I might be dwelling more LOL

Add a fake child to the reservation.

I travel with my daughter and myself all the time. I always book a 2 bed room and have never once had any hotel not accommodate us. We are 2 adults. When we stayed at DLH, they upgraded us and we had a smaller room over looking the pool in the Fantasy tower. I believe it was in the corner and could have been a connecting room because there was a hall door and then a room door. If you are worried about getting 2 queens at DLR, just adds notes to your reservation. Something like, “we are excited for our mother/daughter trip.”

I usually travel with my sister and we prefer having 2 Qs. Most of the rooms have 2 Qs so we've always gotten it when requested except 2 years ago, when we were given a king. We would have kept it but asked to change to 2Q because we had a 3rd adult who ended up wanting to spend one night with us on our first night.

And here is where I will tell everyone who hasn't heard it before that Disney changed their old room rate reservation policy to add an additional cost to the room if there are more than 2 adults. That's why people give the recommendation of adding a (make believe) child to the reservation if you want to get 2 Qs. If you have more than 2 adults, the room rate increases. We didn't realize that until we saw that our rate had gone up for every night with that 3rd adult. We hadn't bothered to tell them she was only there for the first night because we had never had to pay extra for more than 2 adults in the past.

With that walk to Frontier ingrained (and exaggerated, no doubt) in my memory, I insisted on GCH the next trip 😂 . And we like GCH, don't get me wrong! We appreciate the convenience, we like all the ambience indoors and outside in the courtyard, etc. But honestly, I like DLH more. I feel more immersed in Disney there, and there is just a magic to it that is hard to put into words. I don't think you'll regret your choice for your kids' first trip. :)

Couldn’t select bed type when making reservation. It said “1 king, 2 queens, or 2 queens and a sleeper” but when I made the reservation, and even after, it didn’t let me add any notes or anY requests

If you call, you can have them add a note saying that you want 2 queen beds. I would then call again at 10 days out (they start assigning rooms around then) to make sure it is noted. There are so few king rooms that your chances of getting one are pretty slim, but it doesn't hurt to make sure you have it noted just in case.

I think the extra $450 a night for 4 nights for CL is too much. I would probably look into a room with a view. Also there will probably be a sale in early November as well.

I'd keep checking, because people cancel all the time. Once a club level room opened up 2 days before my trip! We love club level and think it's worth the extra cost. We liked having breakfast available first thing and stopped in often for the snacks and drinks. The E ticket lounge is really special. I think if it's affordable you'd enjoy it :)

If you book a standard room you can ask to add the club to it later. I did that once and it worked out fine. I called and requested Adventure tower and explained that I was hoping to add club level. The day I checked in they told me it was all set. I think whether you get it as an add-on just depends on the availability that day.
