The disney survival bag swap... on hold

We walked in the door a few hours ago and this is my first chance to post. Before I explain our saga let me just say that this bag was wonderful!!!! I have a 9 and 12 year old but they were like little kids when we opened it. The mickey light saber and pirate swords were a real hit, you would have thought I was still traveling with preschoolers... as they dueled their way across our room several mornings-lol!

A few lessons I learned from our experience though:

I had been in touch with the swappers before and after me. I knew the bag was being left at luggage services by ddleffers for me. I had given her my name and cell # so she could call with the luggage claim #. I had also contacted and arranged with iluvjus to pass the bag to her on August 26. Since we were at the same resort we were going to meet up in the lobby, so I had her cell # to set up an exact time.

The first lesson I learned is that I should have left my contact information with our organizer. Sandra had no way of contact me to let me know that there had been a change or that she had not been able to contact the next swapper.

My second lesson was that when I didn't hear back from the next swapper after my first phone call, I should have contacted our organizer. Of course, I just assumed that perhaps she had arrived late, was at the park and missed my call, forgot to charge her phone, or any number of things that could happen. When I didn't get a call back the second day then I started to panic but couldn't imagine that someone had ditched me without a word since she already had my cell # from previous PMs plus all of my voice mail messages. 'Nuff said.

Although we checked in at Pop on the 16th, our trip actually spanned from the 13th until we arrived home today. Which leads to my third lesson, if I'm going to be traveling that long of a time period I need to bring my laptop to access email or the Disboards, since there are so many things that can happen during such a long time span - lol! But, seriously, when we are at Disney we tend to live in a vacuum and have little concept of what is going on in the outside world. It is so different from our day to day lives, when we're always plugged in and on, that it is hard to remember that others may be stressing when they don't hear from us or know what is going on.

For those of you who have read this long rambling message, just know that this swap is very worthwhile. We really didn't use much from the bag and only added some disposable ponchos, mini hand sanitizer bottles and singles to go drink mixes. But, my kids were absolutely fascinated with the idea that a group of strangers would work together to do something like this and continue to pay it forward. If nothing else, it helped them to see that it is not about what you get but about sharing and what you can do for others. Thanks, again, Sandra for starting this and continuing to keep it going!

PS- Whoever thought of the step stool is brilliant!:worship: The parents of all toddlers will be forever in your debt...wish I had thought of it when my kids were little!

That was me! The last time we went to Disney I read the great idea of begging a milk crate from the grocery store to use as a step stool. (I filled it with all of our toiletries and other things I knew we wouldn't need to bring back with us, and just shipped it down ahead of time.) However, when Target had them in their $1 section, and I knew that others could use it after me, it was a no brainer. :thumbsup2

Is it just me or has every one fallen off the band wagon??

lauralana9: Please contact me if you want the bag, Mom of 3 Princesses never got back with me for the bag. I'd really like to hand it off to you.

Parker's Moma: Please PM your conact info so I can get the bag to you as well. Since your two dates don't overlap. And I've got something special for you as well.

We would possibly be interested in this if it is available when we come in April! I have a DD 10 and a DD 15 who will be travelling with us and I know they would be thrilled to have a treasure chest to go through!! It sounds a lot like the Geocaching we used to do with our GPS!! (ie. give something, take something)

Our (tentative) dates are April 11 - 18th and we do not yet know where we will be staying, but likely at one of the value resorts or the POR.

Please let me know if we can get on this band wagon! :rotfl:

You sure can jump on. Read the first post... and send me a PM with your info once you know where you're staying. I'll make a note on the calendar that you're claiming those days.

Thanks Sandra! I'm waiting for a code/pin to come out for April and then we'll be booking!

Someone may have already filled these dates but if not, I'd love to jump in from the 15-19. Sending you a PM!

Well that's good... some people seem to have forgotten.... Especially those that don't visit the boards often, so sending them a PM doesn't get me anywhere either.

Another 'still here' post to let you know I'm here and will be using the bag in November. :goodvibes

We aren't going until Sept 10-18, 2010 but would be interested in joining. We are staying at WL. :cool1: First time at deluxe.

I will PM you my info. I organize one of the pop fridge swaps that has been going strong for over 18 months and know all the work that goes into something like this so THANK YOU for doing this.

Ohhhh boss lady...your PM box is full.

And I just tried PM'ing you my life story...geeez am I that boring!

You can PM me your life story now. Sory. I deleted some. I forgot that my sent messages count as well. Oops. I've discovered I should save my emails that tell me I got a PM (with the message) rather than trying to save it on the boards.

I have contact with the ones before and after me! And we are on the countdown homestretch :banana::banana::banana:

I did get the tinkerbell embroidered on the shirt.

The shirt does match the skirt that has panels of tinkerbell on it. Hope your DD like the outfit.
