Just in from Virginia Beach, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Sun Spree, north end of the beach, with one of the best outdoor pools down there (which is why I chose this resort.) We paid more per night for this room than any WDW resort we've ever had the pleasure of staying at.

I found myself really, really examining things and thinking, "if this was at Disney World, that never would've happened" or things like "I can't believe I'm even seeing this!"

First off, they were very strict about their check-in policy, which was 4:00PM. We got there at 2:00 and were told to come back at 4:00, but "feel free to use any of the amenities." Okay, we knew there might be a problem if we arrived early, and we were prepared.

There was a pile of sand (like from a kid's tonka dump truck or like toy) at the end of our hallway. It was there on day one, and still there 3 days later, un-vacuumend.

Our first day, we were assigened to two rooms. Upon entering, neither had yet been cleaned. Finally a manager escorted us to our room to make sure the room was indeed cleaned.

Just little things here and there that made me realize that WDW resorts (including the Swan and Dolphin) really do have a lot to offer in comparison to some places.

it is really hard to compare our disney experiences with out of area hotels.....I am a spoiled disney person.....

Yes Pumba, I've turned into a hotel snob! :o

Add one more to the snob list!! Disney has definatly spoiled us.
We visited our local Six Flags Over Georgia a couple of weeks ago,and it was AWFUL!!! We hated to even have to use the bathroom..NASTY!! We will never go back.I think all those folks who take Disney for granted should spend awhile at some places like that,or stay at some of those way overpriced beachfront hotels. You can easily pay $250.00 per night to stay in a dump just because it's "on the beach".

DH and I are going soon to Freeport Maine to stay overnight at a Super 8 motel:eek: . I know it's only an overnight, and Super 8's have a good reputation for being friendly and clean, just not too fancy. However, we will be going to LL Bean(fondly referred to up there as the "Queen Mother") which is always a beautiful thing!:)

I was convinced that the Disney hotels were generally better than other hotels too. Then I saw the Hotel del Coronado and now I'll say that the Disney hotels are better than MOST hotels. Hey, that's still good! ;)

I totally agree. Disney puts a lot of thought into the theme. Inside and especially outside.

The rooms are aways clean, (maybe, for some a few incidents) my rooms have always be super clean. I love all the theme details and I love the outdoor theme at each resort. Not your plain landscaping, landscaping with pizazz.

Sorry Eros, I don't for one minute think you, your wife and child spend your nights away from home in a Motel 6!

DVC sounds more like your style! :smooth:

You sound so much like me!! I find myself doing exactly the same thing...I think nothing compares to WDW resorts!

You mean they didn't offer to take your luggage and put it in your room for you so you could go out and have fun and come back to your room that night and have all your stuff there waiting for you??? Now the vaccume thing...that's just rediculous. I use to work at a hotel and you're SUPPOSE to vaccume those hall ways twice a day, in the morning and at night. And what's up with them giving you a dirty room??? The whole purpose of check-in being a few hours after check-out is so the rooms get CLEANED!

I might possibly be a Disney snob too now that I think about it. I know for sure my DH is. When we go to Six Flags he's like, "Look at them TRYING to have a theme here like they do at Disney World." He's been going to Disney World since he was a little kid though so he's had many years to get spoiled by Disney. :)

Likewise, Blondie, I truly appreciate the quality, and the ambience of the 'whole Disney package'. Hard to beat, IMO. And a great overall value for the dollar.

I am now truly a resort snob too:o ! I chose our beach resort knowing I would not enjoy it unless it was clean, full of style and charm and had all the anemities. Only the Don Cesar at St Pete beach fit the bill:rolleyes: , so that is where we went. It did not dissapoint! I now "comb" the internet for the best places at the best prices before we go anywhere. I can't stop myself now! I think the DIS did this to me too:smooth: !

It is hard when you've been to great resorts.

We stayed at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. They clean your room and bathroom twice a day... and yet, you never see them do it!

Count me in as a fellow snob. My boyfriend and
I went to Six Flags Great America over the weekend, and I think I must have said "It's not
Disney" at least a hundred times. It was dirty
and it looked like nothing had been painted for
umpteen years.

Another snob checking in!!!:smooth:
I do that everytime we stay somewhere besides Disney!

Blondie, one of the big DOWNSIDES of DVC is the inability to trade UP into a MOTEL 6 luxury resort:( :( :( :(
