Hi there! Get ready for a fun adventure with the DISNEADS!!

Who?? The DISNEADS - a fun filled crazy family of 4 from Ohio!
When?? May 22 - 28 at WDW, May 28 - 31 on the Disney Wonder
Where?? Well, better start reading to find out!
How?? Good question....I hope we all make it out in one piece. WOOHOO!! Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be my very first trip report. Be prepared for lotsocraziness and a bunch of fab pictures!

We'll be visiting WDW from May 22 - 28, and then.....we'll be going on our very first Disney Cruise May 28-31!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Disney for the kids sail free!!!

Here's the Fam - 4 of us - we are from Southwest Ohio:

DSCN1601.jpg

"A" - that's me! ;) I am 29 years old, but I'll be 30 in May, so I'm ejoying my last few months as a person in their late 20's (but, secretly, I know my 30's will be even better than my 20's). I love WDW and have been going all my life - ever since I was a little girl. I am a wacky, crazy, loud, and sometimes annoying person, but I really like to have fun. I spend alot of time with my family, for the most part, but our family vacations mean more than anything to all of us, so we take them often. I own a small business that keeps me very busy 9 months out of the year, but I am very fortunate that I get a lot of time off to be with my family during the summer and over holidays, so it's all good.

DSCN1598.jpg

"CJ" - my super great husband, :thumbsup2 also 29 years old. He will be celebrating his 30th birthday at the WORLD! We arrive on his birthday, and you will have to read further into the trip report to find out how we will celebrate! DH is a great guy (I said that once, I know) with a huge heart, and he loves WDW as much as I do. It's the one "hobby" we share, and most recently I convinced him to join the Disboards. So, he has been instructed to pop on here and say hello and throw his 2 cents in every once in a while. DH works from home (which is why we spend so much time together) and I know he gets annoyed with me from time to time, but he loves me the same. We've been married for 8 years, and I think his favorite things are vacationing, playing guitar and singing, and computers.

DSCN1309.jpg

"Little CJ" - our sweet little man, pirate: 4 years old. He's been to WDW waaaaaaaay too many times for someone his age. In fact, CJ and I have agreed that we are turning him into a spoiled brat. He knows every ride at Disney, and even the restaurants and resorts and can remember many of our previous trips and the things we did. He goes to preschool 3 days a week, gets in lots of trouble almost every day, plays basketball, and Wii, and does other 4 year old type activities. He's quite wacky and crazy like his mother, but laid back in some ways like his daddy. His favorite rides are Tower of Terror and Splash Mountain.

DSCN1669.jpg

"Little A" - our precious baby girl, 16 months. princess: She too has been to WDW far too many times for her little lifetime. I think this is gonna be her 5th trip. She's been a very easy going baby, which has allowed us to take her places and do things with her. I think this trip will be a lot different because she will know more of what's going on. She likes playing with her brother, going bye-bye, eating snacks, and taking baths.

Just a little background:
We were at WDW last June twice. The first June trip was a spur of the moment trip. We were headed down south to visit CJ's family, and I had a free couple of days. I mentioned to him that we could fly down to Orlando, spend a couple of days at Disney, and then drive north to Pensacola to visit his family as scheduled. Well, he liked the idea, so we went! Since he works from home, he can essentially work anywhere where there's internet, so we got a great offsite rate at the Marriott villiage (love that place!). While he did work in the room, the kids and I spent the days at the parks, then we'd come back to the hotel and rest, then back to the parks in the evening as a family. It was a great trip!

DSCN0237.jpg

Our second trip came just two weeks after this one. It was actually a scheduled trip. See, I have a dance school, and several of my students were performing at the Magic Kingdom, so back to WDW we went to watch them perform. We were planning on attending a wedding in Naples, and then driving back up to Orlando to WDW for a few days. We stayed offsite again, but this time, we were at Best Western Lake Buena Vista. One word for this place....YUCK. Don't ever stay there. Anyway, the parks were great, the kids performed beautifully, and a good time was had by all.

DSCN0479.jpg

Then, we visited the World in August during Tropical Storm Faye. We spent 7 long rainy days, most days covered with a poncho and an umbrella (and a jacket and long pants, and brrrrrrrrrr!! In the middle of August!!). We stayed at Wilderness Lodge Villas and Polynesian (split stay). Again, fun time, family vacation, just the 4 of us.

DSCN0934.jpg

Finally, our last trip was taken during Thanksgiving week. Boy....busy week!! Never again will I go to WDW during Tgiving. We stayed at Saratoga Springs - love, love, love, love - this resort! But quite honestly by this trip I think we were all Disney'd out (or Disnead out...heehee). Had fun, but was definitely ready to go home.

DSCN1425.jpg

So we've been planning this trip since, gosh, October or November 08 I guess. I know it was when they first announced that kids sail free on Disney cruises. We've wanted to take a Disney cruise for the longest time, and when I saw that the dates would work with our schedule here at home, I jumped on it.

Last June we bought AP's because we knew we were gonna be at WDW several times throughout the year. So we wanted to choose a cruise date that would still allow us time to visit the parks one last time before our passes expired (they expire on June 2). Since our cruise leaves May 28, we decided we would go to the parks before our cruise.

Sounds relaxing, right? A busy week at the parks, followed by 3 relaxing days on a ship. That's what we thought too. Hopefully we are right.

So, then Disney came out with their new promotion with the Birthday thing. Since CJ's birthday is May 22, we decided to take advantage of that too! How perfect! So, we are spending May 22 - May 28 in the parks, then we head over to the port to catch the Disney Wonder! It's gonna be a great vacation!!

Up next....where will we stay? Stay tuned!!!

Okay, sorry for the super big pictures. Can anyone help me make them smaller? Didn't realize they were going to be gigantic. Oops!

Woo Hoo! I can't wait for this trip! I am a little bummed about the Chocolate Chip Cookie reports from the DCL board. I guess I'll just have to get my fix at Main Street Bakery (Yummy Cookie Sandwiches!) before the cruise.

Moooooooving on...

So, we had to figure out where to stay - our first challenge for our potentially last trip for a while, since our passes expire. We have stayed at Music, Movies, CBR, Wilderness Lodge Villas, Polynesian, and Saratoga Springs in our past, but we had been wanting to stay at Beach Club or Boardwalk for the longest time.

There were a couple of ways to accomplish this. We could either:
1. Wait for a passholder discount. Not our style, because that requires us to wait like 3 months out to book a room. Nah.

2. Book it at a regular rate or wish like crazy for a pin code. Again, hahaha. I never got a pin code. And we would never book at rack rate. Not our style :)

3. Rent DVC points. Yup, that's what we decided to do! :yay:

We had rented points two other times in the past, and both experiences turned out to be great! So, off I went to the DVC board to post my rental needs.

Well, it didn't take long to get a few people willing to rent to us. We had simple requirements. We needed a studio room for 6 nights, preferred view, at Beach Club or Boardwalk. We had hoped to rent points for around $8 or $9 per point, which seemed to be the going rate on the boards. A nice man from New York agreed to rent us points, so off HE went to find out our availability.

Of course, bad news was headed our way. No availability for our total 6 nights at either Beach Club or Boardwalk...boo!!

So, our next decision was - Do we do another split stay, or choose a resort that we can get our 6 total nights at? Easy. I already knew the answer to that. As much as I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to stay at Beach Club or Boardwalk, I am not willing to switch resorts. Been there, done that. Not fun.

Switching resorts with a 4 year old and 1 year old is waaaaaay too much work for me. Plus it takes up most of a day, and I'm not willing to part with any of my vacation days this time around :cool2:

So, CJ and I sat down and came up with a list of resorts we would be happy to have. The list, in order, of what we would be happy with:

1. Animal Kingdom Lodge
2. Saratoga Springs
3. Old Key West

We sent the list off to our New York friend, and he was off to find out what was up!

popcorn::

GOOD NEWS!! Both Saratoga and Old Key West were available. Okay. Which one do we want?

Well, we had stayed at SSR last time and we loved it. We were in the Grandstand section, and they put is in a handicapped room, so it was much larger and gave our kids lots of room to play. We had a door that went out to a little grassy area that would have been perfect for outdoor play if our little crazy man would have had more time. Plus, the bus stop was steps away from our door. It was perfect.

But, we had never stayed at OKW, and I love new adventures, so I gave it some thought. I did a little research on the resort, read some reviews and trip reports on the DIS, chatted with our New York friend about it, and also chatted with CJ. We thought and thought and thought (but not too long, because we didn't want to loose availability...hee hee!).

Finally, we chose................................................................................
.......................................................................................................
SARATOGA SPRINGS, AGAIN!

And we asked our dear New York friend to please put in a request for the Grandstand again, although I may end up changing that because it would be great to have a DTD view, but I will wait and see!

Here are a couple of pics from our last trip:

UP NEXT....OUR 90 DAY MARK FOR DINING....AND THE CRAZY NEW DINING SYSTEM CHALLENGES!

So, we had an interesting day today. It was time for us to finally get our taxes done. I made an appointment with our accountant last week, and she was able to get us in today. All week, I have dreaded the whole tax thing. I don't know why...we always come out okay and end up getting a decent refund. I guess what I hate the most is all that detail. And worrying about whether I calculated everything right or if I've made a mistake. The whole thing makes me crazy. :confused3

All day, I have been getting our stuff ready to go. Gathering all of the necessary documents, making sure we have all we need so that we are prepared when we get there. Doing our taxes is kind of an ordeal. Since I have a small business, it's a bit more detailed of a process, but I usually have all my stuff in order. This year, surprisingly, my business did very well, so I knew there might be some changes with our taxes.

So 5:00 rolls around and it's time to take the kiddos to my parents' house. Did I mention we even lined up a sitter for the kids?? Yeah, the thought of our two crazies running around the tax office while we are trying to concentrate and focus is enough to make me insane. Little man is pretty energetic, talks and talks, and asks a million questions. So a normal 30 minute appointment could have potentially lasted a couple of hours if he were to go. And "Little A" would be just fine, as long as we brought an entire cupboard full of snacks that she could munch on while doing our business.

Let's just say - It's better to have a sitter lined up.

We walked into the accountant's office and sat down at her desk. We provided her the details as she asked for them, and a certain uneasiness in her voice started to make me nervous. We have been working with this accountant for 5 years now, so I think I can tell when things seem strange. Anyway, after what seemed like hours, she finally says, "It's not looking good, guys." Oh my nerves. I figured we would have to pay, but gosh, could it really be that bad?

She turned her monitor around so we could see it. Number by number, we went through the details together. Finally we inched towards the bottom of the screen, and I saw the dreaded number.

We owed taxes to The Man.:sad2:

Yikes.

Well, luckily for me, I was prepared for this. Honestly, I thought it would be a smaller number, but I still wasn't terribly shocked. CJ, on the other hand, looked like he had just seen a ghost. :scared1:

I held myself together, very calmly, and shook my head in understanding as she asked me to sign the paperwork. It was okay, I said, I knew this was coming. Poor DH thought for sure we were getting a refund, and I tried to prepare him for this before we went in.

So, I guess we'll need to stick to a tight budget here over the next several months so that we can save up for our trip. I've already got CJ working on it :woohoo:

Well, the good news is tomorrow it is supposed to be in the mid 70's and sunny here in Ohio, so we will all have SPRING FEVER!!! :cheer2:

I think the plan is to spend some time outdoors, maybe do a bit of hiking and then hit the playground for the kids. And there might even be a trip to the Disney Store tomorrow afternoon :rolleyes1

But we'll be spending less, of course :rotfl:

My next update will be about our dining plans...I promise!!!

Oh, and if you are lurking out there, please let us know! I'm afraid if no one is reading my motivation to continue the report will leave me. So, if you are reading and/or following, say hello!!

I only have a few readers over on my PTR. I don't even care if people read I think I'm just doing it for myself because it gets me excited for the trip! I've never stayed at Saratoga Springs before. Is that your favorite resort?

Yeah, you're right, doing a PTR really does get me excited about the trip.

I love Saratoga Springs. It's such a beautiful resort. It's probably my favorite DVC - but I've only stayed at VWL and SSR. I'd have to say my current fave resort is the Polynesian. We stayed in Fiji and had an awesome view of the beach, the lagoon, and the GF. Plus, love being on the monorail and love the restaurants at Poly. Yum!!

As promised, let's talk about DINING! We debated over whether or not to get dining this time, but really, it's usually just a given. Both CJ and I love being on the dining plan. Yeah, maybe you could save a few dollars by not doing dining, but to us having the ability to eat good meals every day is well worth it. Like most of you, our dining plans dictate the parks we choose to visit on particular days. We have some favorites, but we also like to try new things each time.

We learned that our 90 day mark would come on Feb 21. Well, for me, that was a really bad day. I had to work a very long day that day and would be unable to call in our reservations. So, that meant that CJ would have to take control and make sure we got everything we wanted. He is not the most "aggressive" person in the world, so I was a bit worried that he might try to sleep in, then just call whenever he woke up on his own good time.

So, I started coaching him :rotfl2:

And I decided he would need some kind of guide to help him do this. So I created a spreadsheet containing our meal plans each day, as well as the resort confirmation number. Not that I didn't think he couldn't do it :lovestruc , I just wanted him to be prepared. Plus I am a control freak like that. It would be as simple as printing the spreadsheet (also with the WDW phone number, to make it nice and simple) and handing it to him the night before. Which is exactly what I did. :woohoo:

But then, I started reading about all the dining confusion going on at WDW, with the change from one system to another. And of course, our trip fell right smack dab in the middle of all this confusion. We are going May 22 - 28, and people on the DIS were reporting that you had to call one dining rep to make ressies up until May 26, and then get transferred to another rep for ressies after the 26th. Ugh.

If I were doing the reservations, I could totally handle this. But I was worried for CJ...again, not quite as agressive. For example, if they told him he couldn't make a reservation for a certain date, he would probably just say "OK" and be done with it. :rotfl: But not me, I would, of course, call 3 or 4 times until I finally got a rep who knew how to do it. DH is a fabulous guy, he's just very laid back in many ways. We compliment each other well....me = high strung and control freak :scared1: ....him = laid back, easy going, not a care in the world. :surfweb:

So, I started coaching him again. I told him about all the possibilities of the telephone prompts. I told him it would ask him to press one for certain things, and that he should make sure to follow the instructions to get finished the fastest. I also told him to talk fast :lmao: so that we could get all the reservations we wanted. Serious control issues :) I apologize for my behaviour in advance :rotfl2:

He assured me he could handle it - and I felt pretty confident in him. He was prepared, he had his spreadsheet, he had the phone number, he had our confirmation number, he knew what restaurants for what day, he knew the backup plans...and most importantly, his alarm was set for 6:55 AM :yay:

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21

The day started bright and early for me. My dancers had a performance that day and I had to be onsite at 7:00 AM, so I was up at 5 and on the road by 6. I really didn't have time to think about our Disney Dining because I was SO busy. In fact, I can honestly say I totally forgot about them. About 7:55 AM I got a text from CJ and this is what it said:

"SUCCESS!" :cool1:

Those 7 little letters put a HUGE smile on my face.

Here are the reservations we got:

Arrival day - Friday May 22
Ohana 5:15 PM for CJ's Birthday Dinner

Saturday May 23
Crystal Palace 8:05 AM for breakfast
Beaches and Cream for Dinner

Sunday May 24
Fantasmic Dinner Package at Mama Melrose 3:45 PM for Dinner

Monday May 25
Kona 8:00 AM for breakfast
LeCellier 5:30 PM for dinner

Tuesday May 26
Boma 7:15 PM for Dinner

Wednesday May 27
Chef Mickey's 7:30 AM for breakfast

Up next, park plans for each day!! Stay tuned!!

Alright, let's get right to it. Park plans. I guess I didn't realize how hard it would be to make park plans without the May hours. See, Disney waited what seemed like forever to release the May hours. So, all I could do was give it my best shot. I knew we did not want to visit any park with EMH. The only EMH success we ever have is in the morning, and we'd much prefer to EAT in the morning at one of our many favorite restaurants, so we decided to just match up good breakfasts with park hours that would work for us.

We are flying Airtran, and we will not have a car this trip (except for our trip to and from the port, where you will hear about our one way car rentals). So, we are Magical Expressing it! I do love the Magical Express!! It builds excitement for both me and my crazy kids!!

Friday, May 22....CJ's 30th BIRTHDAY!
On our arrival day, we will have most the day to plan out. Our flight arrives at MCO at 10:00 AM, so we'll get to the resort and settled by around 12:30 PM, I'm estimating. Once there, we'll grab some lunch from the resort. Then, we plan on taking a quick swim, assuming the sun is shining bright overhead! With two small kids in tow, its hard to make it through the day without at least one good naptime, so we'll put the kids down for a quick nap around 2:30PM, (no zzzzzzzzzzz's for me, I'll be too excited!) head to our 5:15 reservation at Ohana for CJ's 30th birthday.

I let DH pick whatever restaurant he wanted for his birthday. It was a toss up I think, between Ohana, Boma, WCC, and Chef Mickeys. He prefers Chef Mickey's for breakfast...even though we have ONLY eaten there for breakfast, and Boma was too far away for what we had planned for the evening. Since we did WCC on our last trip, and we did not do Ohana, he decided he wanted Ohana. Plus, I think the menu was enticing for all of us.

After we celebrate DH's birthday at Ohana, we plan to spend the evening at MK. This will be the only EMH we will use throughout the trip, I think. Our plan is to watch Spectromagic and Wishes, and then hit some of the rides that we love. We won't stay out too late, though, because we have early ADR's the next morning.

SATURDAY, MAY 23
After reading on these boards for years about how awesome it is to have the first ressie of the day at Crystal Palace, I decided we would try it this trip. Let's get this straight: WE ARE NOT MORNING PEOPLE. But for this trip, it looks like we better start workin on it. Anytime we have an early ADR, there are plans the night before to hit the sack early.

We wanted our CP ressie for the 1st day when we would have alot of energy...you know, the first day of your trip you always have the most energy. It slowly goes away day by day after that. And, we always visit Magic Kingdom our first full day. Choosing MK on a Saturday was not the most ideal plan in the world, but it will be okay because we do not plan on staying there all day. Our goal is to finish at CP just in time for rope drop, head to fantasyland and get all the staples in, and then work our way around until we are done. Then, we'll head back about 2:00 - FOR NAPTIME - maybe a quick swim, and then depending on how we feel, we'll head over to Beaches and Cream.

I imagine we will be totally wiped out by this point in the day, but we've decided to play it by ear. If we have more energy, we will plan something for the evening after dinner. If not, we won't!

See, the thing you will notice about this trip is that I have left lots of room for flexibility. I've NEVER done that. :rotfl2: But, I want to be able to plan a little on the fly. We have one park scheduled per day, but typically I've left evenings free to do as we'd like.

So, I'll leave you now with a few pictures from CP on Thanksgiving 2008.

Here is my Little A's first experience with a character meal.
DSCN1417.jpg
I don't think she loved Eeyore.

And here's little CJ chatting with Piglet...

Up next, Sunday May 24 plans!!

I'm here; I'm here! Just subbied!

You have a precious family! The little one's pic with Eeyore makes me sad, though. Poor baby!

I love your ADRs; we have a lot of the same ones! I love that you coached DH, too. My OCD planning side hasn't decided if I'll do that, or take a half day off the morning of our 90 day mark.

Yay! Thanks for the comment. I was beginning to think I was all alone. :sad1:

Yes, poor little A was so scared of Eeyore, but she liked Pooh. I'm hoping she will be able to watch her brother interact with the characters and she will be okay this time.

I was dreading making those reservations...especially since I'm a bit of a night owl. I think I had gone to bed about 3am the previous night, so 6:55 rolled around pretty quickly.

I ended up being on the phone for almost 1 hour, and i think about 45 minutes of that was with the people dealing with the 'New' system. She put me on hold and kept checking in on me telling me it would be a few minutes longer (good thing too..cause I may have fallen asleep if she didn't). Hopefully they've got their issues figured out.

For you OCD-ers out there like my wife...the spreadsheet method was nice. Everything was there in a nice grid showing where we would be, and what our ideal restaurant and time was. I don't know what I would have done without it.

I love that she is a planner...otherwise our trips would be a whole lot of 'so...what do you wanna do? .... i dont know. what do you wanna do?' I am a lucky guy!
