The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

Merry Christmas to all!! We are enjoying our Christmas Eve traditions of movies and our big dinner since the girls go to their father's for dinner tomorrow. We had double smoked ham with a maple honey glaze, scalloped potatoes, green been cassarole and stuffing.

I do hope everyone had a wondeful and merry Christmas. We had a great morning with the girls, then a quiet afternoon and evening as they headed out. Tomorrow Melissa and I head to the mountains for a anniversary getaway.

About 25 days till I head south for the 24. If weather forecasts get bad we might leave earlier to get south of any potential snow even it means waiting in out a few days somewhere.

Just started to look at the seasons RV trips. Right now looks like at least TN is July, looking for a good Spring trip for Melissa and I, maybe I 81 corridore for some different area to explore.

Anyone got any planning going on?

My RV planning is hindered this year by 17 days of scout summer camps this year. I'm taking DS, and about half the troop, to the summer camp I went to growing up and then to summer camp the troop always goes to. I also have to use a few days of vacation to drop him off at Philmont for a national youth leader camp too.

I think we will do a few local long weekends here and there and a K State Football weekend, but no big RV trips this year again for us.

James, your food pics looked great.

We have a trip to Gulf State Park in February (a long weekend) so I can hustle around a half marathon course (another half here at home in March).

I have been watching the Fort/WDW webbie for anything that might impact our trip in early May. Right now FW discounts (15% if available on your dates) are/were available through April 30, 2026 so I am watching for the post-May 1 discounts maybe availble after New Years (fingers crossed).

But regardless of discount or not, we still comin'. To quote Ed O (not my former HC but I love the guy- I speak Cajun like a native):

Locally I got spring college baseball coming up here soon. I can sneak into afternoon practices in about 3 weeks then the intra-team scrimmages will start (Crimson vs White, etc.) and the season starts around Valentine's Day. About 30 home games this spring which is great for a retiree who loves baseball in the best/toughest league (SEC) in college baseball.

That's what I'm planning on/for. I can't wait to hook up the camper again and pull out of the driveway soon.

Ed

PS - that's a pretty Christmas tree, Spencer. 🎄

We leave NYE, 3 weeks Camp margaritaville, 4 weeks at the Fort, 3 more at margaritaville then 3 weeks at Santa Rosa RV Resort on the panhandle back home April

Merry Christmas! I know I'm a little late. We spent Christmas Day chilling out then went to see the new Avatar movie with my brothers and spouses. Friday, we took off for the lake to see my dad. My brother and sister came down today and I made the newish family tradition of lasagna.

As for trip planning. This is definitely the time of year I start looking and making reservations. We are going to DLP the first week of June. Staying at the newly remodeled Disneyland Hotel. Ian and Blake are coming along. They are stay at Sequoia Lodge where we stayed in 2023. Think of it as a moderate level Wilderness Lodge. After 4 days at the parks, we'll head to Paris for a few days to see more of the city.

Middle of July we are camping in St. Augustine, Florida. Combo beach trip and house exploration trip. The NE corner of Florida is the only place we haven't spent any time, so figured we'd check it out and see what the house/land market is like.

September we're are headed to Hershey, PA with the Midwest group. Going to check out the RV show and the area in general. We've never been out there to see things.

I'm sure we'll hit some local state parks and do a few Harvest Host weekends throughout the summer.

Wish I could join you guys but that's a home game weekend against Florida State who beat us this year (so it's a revenge game as well).

I would offer for you, while up around Hershey, to ride the Strasburg Railroad in Strasburg (SE of Lancaster area), PA. It's the oldest continually operating railroad in the US. That's Amish country down there as well and less than an hour from Hershey.

It's a real steam engine ride in period passenger cars and not a long trip - a couple miles each way and 45 minutes roundtrip. If you are into trains even more (like I am), the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum is across the street with a huge indoor set of loco's and rolling stock.

Jim, there are a number of Harvest Hosts in that area.

Sounds like some great trips planned.

Thanks, Ed.

We will check that out. We've done the steam trains in NC outside Great Smoke Mountain Nat'l Park and one in Chattanooga. I'll definitely look this one up.

Happy New Year!!!! (yup belated, I was too lazy to post...)

@Part-Time Paradise That's how I feel this year. We decided to book a weekend at the beach (Vero Beach) and a cruise (Disney Wish) in June/July. So now just trying to find good weekends.

@Teamubr Please keep me in the loop if you are heading to PA. Defintely would like to catch up, though I do have a NASA race weekend at Summit Point conflicting with the show this year. I can always take a day off to drive up for the day.

@bama_ed I am jealous on the FW camping, I would love to fit that in this year. I don't think this year we will make it south of TN/NC area besides my Daytona guys trip. GSP is still on the bucket list..... Gonna need to wait for a good school break.

Happy New Year. You know what that means. It is almost time for me to head to disney to run a race. We leave on Thursday. I will be running the half on Saturday. Bert is not running. He signed up but had a significant knee event (it was really his quad and is better now) and no training. He decided he is too old to run a half with no actual training. As for me my goal is to not wreck myself. I have a full Epcot day on Saturday so i have to be able to walk. We have a ressie at GEO 182 and then we booked LLs for Test Track, Soarin and Mission Space.

Additional park plans include AK on Friday and then Epcot again on Monday. We are staying at Boardwalk Inn because it makes it easier to spectate on Sunday. After spectating we will head to Disney Springs. We head home on Tuesday.

I am very under trained for this half but not hurting overly bad. I decided under trained was better than a lot of other options.

As always @garneska I will cheer you on from afar and likely from behind my eyelids if its before 7am. :earsboy:

I do look forward to the food report, since we won't be there till fall, defintely need my Disney fine dining fix.

Yeah race starts at 5 am. I am thinking i am in coral D so i will probably start about 5:30. Probably won't finish till 8:30.

Food wise we are going to Topolinos, Tusker House, Kimono's, Le Creperie, Geo 182, Monsieur Paul (my bday dinner), Narcoosee's and flying fish. Oh and Bf before we leave is at Ale and Compass or whatever it is called now at Yacht Club.

I always say I'm undertrained but I still line up and try to finish in front of the balloon ladies.

Good luck to you Kris. I hope you and the Bert-man have a great stay at WDW this month. I too will follow your progress.

Ed

PS - I miss eating the Trails End buffet on the morning AFTER a HALF or WHOLE marathon. Even the morning after, my metabelism was still running on a high rpm so that breakfast the next day at TE (AYCTE) was SO wonderful (especially if Ken was our server). But Kris listed a number of great places to eat so I hope those places help her and DH feel rested and full.

PPS - so you say ya'll are staying at Boardwalk; am i to assume you have sold the rv? I may have missed a memo in the last 8 months while I've been on granddad duty .....

Well we still own the RV but want to sell it. I am sort of trying to sell it. Honestly i would even donate if I could find someone to pick it up. We have not driven it all year. I am not even sure it will start.

Since work has made us come back to the office it is difficult for me to pull off my two week to the fort trip for race weekend.
