The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

Hope everyone had a fulfilling and thankful Thanksgiving. We went to mom’s. Bert made a new dish. It was like a potato augratin. It was delicious but he did purchase a mandolin to cut the potatoes. He also purchased a productive glove. It was all a success, Bert still has all his fingers.

Hope everyone had a very lovely Thanksgiving! Sending my best to those still waiting to celebrate with family 😁

Pie report for this year is that my usual trio (apple, pumpkin, pecan) came out perfect!

Stomach stretches were successful 😋

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded with loved ones.

This year was the PA visit, so we left Wednesday morning. Got to go see Longwood Gardens all lit up for the Christmas season. And then enjoy Thanksgiving at my in-laws.

Plus side, our booking window opened up Wednesday. So after I go here we booked our 2026 vacation, 3 nights at Vero Beach, then a 4 day cruise on the Disney Wish!

In other news, I am just a funds transfer away of securing an inside camping spot for the 2026 Daytona 24 race weekend!!! The site is near the end of the Gieco Red Premium between international horseshoe and the dog leg. My friend Ken will be joining me for the tow south with us leaving Wednesday to get there for Thursday load in, and then load out is Monday by 11am. Ken has to fly to a work conference Sunday, so the trip home will be soloe. Probably stop at SOB or a little north of that, then finish the town home the next day.

Jim, 52F currently on a Saturday afternoon at my house same time as your pix above.

A little gray sky in Title Town but retirement weather here in the south is a little more tolerant.

Except those with arthritis feel the change in temps in their joints but that's true in IL too (or more so).

As FYI headed back to GSP in February.

Today is the first snow for VA. Thankfully its a WFH day for me. Though out schools decided to stay open for the first time in history. We have had at least several cars in ditches just the 3 miles from our house ot the HS, but its fine.

In sad news, little miss Bug has crossed over the rainbow bridge on Monday. Bug was a strong willed dog with a lot of spunk and fight in her. More then once over the years an issue or injury would come up, she would beat it and prove her will power and fight was strong. However, over the past month she had a growing serious nuerological issue causing seizures.

She will be missed though we know we made the right decision after seeing how her quality of life was quickly eroding.

In other news, finalized the deal on our site for the Daytona 24. His group has sites 31-33, I think we are getting site 33.

This is a short walk away from turns 3 (international loop) and turn 4 (dogleg)

Right now the plan is to head south Wednesday morning, with both of us able to drive we can shared the drive south and going to push for the RV Self Park in Kingsland, GA. If there is some frosty frozen weather heading our, we will look at leaving early and figure out options for somewhere to stop for a couple days. The final goal is to be at Daytona for load in around 10AM on Thursday Jan 22nd.

So many other emotions flowing, between the loss of our pup, managing a bucket list item, and we finally booked our summer vacation, but more on that later.

Sorry to hear about bug.

Have a great time at the 24. We went about 10 years ago. Rented a motorhome in the inflied campground and backed up to Lake Lloyd. It is definitely an event. Have a great time.

@Teamubr I have some friends that do that every year, even thouse with RVs that just don't want to dig them out in the winter. I will be taking the 5th wheel down. I don't have an issue towing or working around winter weather. After learning we can check in on Wednesday, we are going to change our plan to leave Tuesday instead. If winter weather is comming before then we can plan to hit the road during the weekend and find a place to stay.

I been down there twice so far. Once as crew, once as a flagger. Now just going to watch and hang out was on the bucket list.

I posted this on the Truck and Towing thread, but head over to the Pilot Challenge GS garages and look up the Kohr Motorsports guys on Thursday or Friday. We raced with the team owner in NASA. Dean is a great guy. Amazingly talented driver. He used to be a chassis engineer for Ford SVT and was one of the test track drivers when they were developing the S197 Mustang. Tell him Jim and Mark from NASA AI Team UBR says Hi.

I dropped some of my favorite places to watch in the other thread. Not sure how much time you had to wander when you were there working.

Since this time around I will be 100% sectating with garage access. Don't worry, I will find my way around and likely run into a LOT of people I have met over the past 25 years involved in the racing community.

Merry Christmas all. We had a great day today. Church early this morning at 10 am, which worked out good for dinner. After lunch got a 5 mile run in, fairly decent weather cold but sunny. A shower and then a walk for Whisky. Came back and Herb and Lucy wanted to go to the dog park. Whisky had some serious zoomies. Home to make dinner. I helped by stripping the thyme for the potatoes. Later will have French silk pie.
