The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

I know there are a lot of Buc-ee"s fans on here, myself included. Last Friday DH and I were driving past the Buc-ee's in Athens, AL, when I glanced over and saw a stage with lights set up in the parking lot. I remarked to DH that they must be having some kind of music or show in the parking lot. Later that evening, Keith Urban showed up for a pop-up concert in the parking lot at Buc-ee's. The show wasn't advertised until that afternoon, but a lot of people showed up. The city of Athens estimated that about 5,500 people showed up for the concert. In addition to doing the show, he also worked for awhile behind the brisket counter lol. Apparently, he is a big Buc-ee's fan and stopped at the one in Athens about a month ago when he got the idea to do the concert there. You never know what you will find at Buc-ee's.:)

So far the only thing I found at a Buc-ees was a family setup to celebrate someones birthday. They had chairs setup spanning about 5 parking spaces with baloons, chairs, tables and about 15 bags of foods from inside.

The labor day weekend is upon us. For 20 years now I have attended the SCCA Labor Day races wich is also a charity event working to raise money for local charities. This year as specialty chief I get to handle our teams fundraising efforts. Thankfully it's not too involved because we just got through the first week back to school and the schedule change defintely made it an adjustment.

Looking forward to the weekend, but there is still much to get done before then.

Hello again. It’s been a while since I was active and posting, but thought I probably should get back on here or else me showing up at the Dis Meet in November unannounced might be kinda awkward.

I have been lurking the forums, but as things have been pretty boring for me I haven’t posted. My Disney enthusiasm has been low, and Disney trips have been limited for last few years and no Fort trips. A short food and wine trip with my mom (offsite) 2 years ago, a big vacation with DW, Mom, DS1, DDiL, and DS2 and 18mo Grand Daughter (offsite) 18mo ago, and a short art festival trip with DW, and Mom (All Star Movies) 6 months ago. Grand Daughter loved it, and was not a bit afraid of the characters.

Camping wise, I have only had one trip. DW and I went to Oklahoma City to visit her family last summer. On the way out we stopped in Tupelo, MS first night, Russellville, AR second night and OKC for 8 nights, then back to Russellville and Tupelo on the way back home. But the camper has been getting a lot use, just not traveling.

After the Pigeon Forge meet, I parked the camper at a campground that allowed long term stays since the company I am working with is over an hour away from the house (about 2 with Atlanta traffic). DW and I would spend the weekdays in the camper, and weekends at home. That lasted about a year and then the amount of time I had to spend in the office dropped off some, so it was only 3 days week in the camper. Then it dropped on only about 1-2 days a month so we started doing every other week at the camper. Now we have decided the cost wasn’t worth it, so we brought the camper home.

That’s about as much as I’ve been up to. Not much excitement, not much to talk about. But now that we are home, that’s going to change. I have plans for some upgrades to the camper, and work around the house that has been neglected while we were spending all that time in the camper.

Made it through the race weekend. I thought it was my last for the season, but NASA might actually need more trucks for EV, so I might be back one last time.

We decided to take a trip to the Hershey show in a couple weeks. I like to walk around, see the new ideas that they come up with. We are not in the market, but its already giving me ideas in the past for useful upgrades or mods for the current RV.

Otherwise, its time to get some planning on for November and do everything I can to help the family make it through the first quarter of school.

Ugh, it was bound to happen.... I blew the plastic cold pipe open on my ford 6.7. I was planning to replace it before heading south, I even had it in my amazon basket. And Sunday morning while running a few errands I went to pull away from the light and POP went the pipe. Right at the press fit band and the plastic, the plastic is split as well.

Good news though, I have a Doorman all metal replacement pipe on its way.

It arrives tomorrow, so ill get it installed by the weekend. Guess my truck decided it wanted this now, rather then later.

Mine blew on my old red truck, towing the 5th wheel just approaching Atlanta on the way to Disney. Luckily I was able to get off the highway and there was a Ford dealer a couple of miles away. Better lucky than good.

I was telling my friend Ken this morning that I felt fortuate it happen when I was unloaded running a light errand rather then in the middle of a .5 mile climb over the blue ride on US7 (frequent route for me going to Summit Point.). Its a long grade climb holding about 20-25psi of boost all the way up. That would have sucked.

At least it will be fixed up good as new in no time.

Ian 3D printed a Cinderella's Castle. It's only about 8 inches tall and a little plain.

But when you project a video of HEA on it... PRESTO!

It is so small it is hard to focus the camera, but pretty impressive in person.

He is printing a bigger one now that should be a little easier to project onto.

That is defintely a good move.

I got my truck part in today, but it was late in the day and chose a walk with the wife over fixing the truck. I can deal with the truck later this week. It's not like I need do drive it right away.

James- If you have a long socket extension on a swivel, it's a 15 minute fix. Did mine in the Ford dealer's parking lot.

Thanks Jim, have all the right tools. I just decided that I did not need change it out around last light. Tomorrow we are taking J out for her birthday so ill just do it later this week since it an easy job but a dirty one. So worse case I fix it Thursday, and I don't officialy need it fix till next Thursday.

I blew mine coming through Tuscaloosa on my way to our Dismeet in Pigeon Forge few years back. Randy was behind me. I was coating him with black smoke while pulling the fiver. We unhooked his camper on side of interstate and went back to Ford dealer in Tuscaloosa and picked one up. I had it changed in same amount of time as it took Randy to hook back up to his camper.

Good times!

@tiggerdad I recall that story (I think we where on our way to OBX due to our hurricane reschedule). Another RVer I knew blew their's out recenly on a 2015. I figured I was due and going to replace it before heading to FL. I guess I waited a few days too long.

Well we survived the Hershey RV show without changing up our RV. We did find a couple we really liked, yet not ground breaking enough that we had to try and make a deal. We did have a great time talking with @MrsPAHunter for a bit and look at a whole bunch of units. We pretty much closed the show, though thats ok, we got our tickets worth looking at everything.

Think the best new floorplan I found was this RK that was not a bunch of steps up and down.

It had a ton of storage, but that was about it. I think runner up was the Montana Front Office unit.

But I think the biggest thing we lose there is the half bath and thats actually somewhat important.

So I guess we stick with what we have for now and by no means is it a bad RV. However, the one thing I am going to change out before DisMeet is the faucets. I had one start to have low flow and turns out these waterfall faucets are known to clog and you cannot rebuild them. So we ordered a couple of MOEN faucets we liked and will change out the 3 bathroom faucets. Take that cheap RV stuff.....
