The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

Kris, we are happy to hear the 3 of you are safe. On the brighter side , if you decide to run in the Chicago or Philly races you will be prepared for such an event.
Tough to hear about Miss Whisky's problem. Good luck with the pills. Our Katie has been on antibiotics for 3 weeks now with a hot spot on her tail she went after , opened up and got infected . She topped the scale at a meager 89 lbs. last week.

There are times I think I should just bite the bullet and school myself on doing my own wheel bearings…. I realize that over the last few years, RV dealers have sold WAY more pieces of equipment than they could ever hope to service. This is why I called in January to make an appointment for March to drop my trailer for said service (in my mind, the “oil change” of trailer service). Didn’t drop it off with a list of 10 items to fix that requires parts from manufacturer (which I know would put me out of action for 3-6 months). In any case, here we are 45 days later (I scheduled this “normal small service” like I did so as not to sweat Memorial Day… 🧐🙄) not done. Going to call and let them know I’m picking it up by next Thursday finished or not… thanks for the free parking (I guess…)…

Hi everyone! Been busy moving & a lot of things going on @ Church. Kris so glad your Motorhome is back with y"all. Sorry Whisky is having some problems. We think Missy Kidney's stones are gone. She is peeing much better. I was not aware of shooting in your area, but so glad you are safe. It is great that Mrs PaHunter is getting out & enjoying their Motorhome. Ours was too much RV for me & only pulled it on the highway. Didn't pull into gas stations or tried to park it on our stops. Grumpy Aggies was good at doing that. We are again in bad weather alerts tonight. So far, by the time it gets to Bastrop, the storm has died out with only rain & wind in my area, but we have had some large hail around me. Praying that will be the case tonight. Y'all have safe & fun trips. Enjoying reading your adventures.

Not that you need this for bearings, but, I found it to be needed. It took the question of did I get grease in all the holes out of the equation. Its like 15 bucks cheaper on amazon then at the local car repair store.

@4077 Repacking is not that difficult. This is a great breakdown on everyting to look at including how to set the pre-load.

The bearing packers work well, but I Am old school and just put some of the grease in one hand and pack the bearing by pushing the grease into the bearing casing. I use the leveling jacks and bring the one side up a bit over level, then use a bottle jack to get the wheel off the ground to remove the tires. If you don't have leveling jacks, one of the roadside tire blocks like the Trailer Aid and a bottle jack would work too. Usually takes me about 2-3 hours start to finish because I also clean the brakes, adjust them inspect and grease the suspension, etc.

I agree with James and Spencer, but we are all mechanically inclined and have the jacks/stands/tools. I can see how this is pretty intimidating if changing a tire is the most adventurous you are comfortable with. There is also almost an art/zen or something to how tight you set the bearings. And I won't discuss the inner bearing seal fights I've had.

This kinda thing is why I have a 30+ year on-going relationship with my tire/car care guys at my local shop that I still go to. They worry about these kinda things so I don't have to. They tow themselves (fishing boats, though, not pop-up campers) so they know the ropes.

Heck even my grown kids have started taking THEIR cars to my guys. They are honest to a fault (their own pocket book sometimes) on what we need and what it costs. That is getting more rare these days .....

Today was the Hartwell Dam Race. Some of my run Disney friends put on this race. We had a mini run disboards meet up, Bert and I were using this 10K as proof of time for our Run Disney Half Marathons coming up. Bert was going for sub 61 (coral B) and I was going for sub 54:45 (coral A). I had 3 goals for this race. First hope my knee holds up and feels good. if the first went well then the second goal was to run a good, smart race. Then third was that time goal. They all hinge together.

drumroll….

first goal knee was good. Hiking was bothering it some, so no hiking last weekend.

second goal, I did pretty good with only one mistake. I did not start my push early enough. This was a new race to me. There was a downhill in the beginning, did that well, fast but not too fast. The hill was more than I expected but again handled it well. needed some recovery after the hill but after the turn at 3.5 or 4 I should have started hitting the throttle. I waited to 4.5. i had a little bit left in the tank at the end.

third goal official time 54 minutes flat. I feel good.

bert finished in 55:37 her crushed it but not feeling as good as me. Like I said my one mistake was I hit the throttle a little late.

we took whiskey with and my friend‘s wife babysat. Whisky was a dream. She did so good with Pam and was just really good with all the stuff going on around her. She still hates the car though.

I finished my shower and both whisky and Bert were sleeping.

next race is PeachTree Road Race July 4. Before that we have vacation.

Ed, You know I'm cheap. Or at least frugal, as I remember I have a Class A diesel pusher that I paid more for than my house. :) I've always been mechanically inclined, so this type of thing is a simple couple of hours.

Congrats to both of you. I went to a Mexican restaurant and had 2 large banana margaritas for Cinco de Mayo. I finished both in about 54 minutes. :rotfl2:

I know you (or your knee) don't like downhills as much so great finish. Hopefully tomorrow things still feel well.

On a side note, I just grabbed Cubs/Cards tickets in some fancy all inclusive seats for Donna and I and our DIS friends from Chicago (@tigger92662) for the end of July. Kris, I know you are a Cubs fan, you can fly up and join us. Saturday July 29th. :cool1:

that is tempting. I might try but I might be in Ohio at that time.

Gizmo and Megara getting back from a walk with mom, Maiden Voyage with the Coach, Springville/Provo Utah KOA, many stops at dusty/windy KOA's across IA, NE and WY, not much on pictures yet, lots of snowy mountains though, we head down to the NP's tomorrow for a week, so should have pics to share, oh and our DD#2 got married in Draper UT yesterday!

You're right, @Teamubr, we each have our strengths. Today I screened in the porch door with some aluminum screen in tight corners (I learned a trade that might earn me some retirement ca$h), whipped up over 2 cups of a homemade mayonaise, and I'm gonna do a pepper steak chinese dinner in a few minutes.

We had 8! graduation ceremonies this weekend at Bama (3 Friday afternoon/evening, 4 Saturday, 1 this afternoon) so things will wind down for at least a month here (roads clear of traffic, can get a table at restaurants easily, and weather is nice) and the locals like us can stick out heads out of our lairs and enjoy our surroundings.

This is a great time of year here.

ED

PS - our Bama college baseball head coach got fired this week for sending info to gamblers last weekend before the casinos/books got the info so his contact could place a bet before the odds changed. So dumb. Hope he rots in jail. But hey, our team responded this weekend and won 2 out of 3 games against Vanderbilt ranked #5 in the country.

@bama_ed If you have a shop that can take care of that without making you wait for months, you got a good thing. I feel like most people will push themselves out of necessity. Time or money tend to be the top motivators, like Jim I am more likely do so some work myself. Yet there are things I still leave for others.

@garneska awesome! I hope your recovery goes well.

We finished the weeding and mulching. over 100' of flower beds done, 7 yards of mulch spread over 2 days. This is usually the big work and ends up spanning 2 or more weekends due to weather and obligations. Somehow we got it all done in one weekend this time. I feel like I could have run a marathon with a wheel barrow.

I've witnessed your cooking skills. I defer to you on those. We should probably work something out. I'll come down to Tuscaloosa for a game. Do the annual maintenance on your Aliner and you cook up something great!

SIUE, where I teach, wrapped up graduations a couple of weeks ago. Our summer term started today. Thankfully I have a small class this session.

And I saw that about your BB coach. Stupid choices that don't belong in the sport. Oh well. It sounds like you are having a better year than the Cardinals. We did finally win a game last night. 1st in the last 9.

Ok , showing my age, and some knowlage. This is for you Ed, do you remember eating ice milk as a kid?The cheaper bars and such were ice milk. We didnt have a ton of money so scrumptious frozen treats were made of Ice Milk. But where did it go? Ice milk is gone and you can't buy it, or can you? Basicly they got sued by the milk conglomerates claiming it wasnt real milk. So ice milk is now called low fat or light ice cream. So that delicious light ice cream was in fact the ice milk of a diffrent era. And yea, we do aldis too. Usally the large gallon tub of vanilla, then mix in stuff like peanut butter, or fresh fruit. Better for the kiddo.

Spencer, ice milk was in all my root beer floats as a kid. We did not splurge for ice cream sundaes or banana splits or extravegances like that. I remember my floats having more ice/water frozen chips from ice milk than dairy in my glass. But it was a race to the bottom of the glass for me, my brothers, and sister to see if the first one empty could get seconds (most often NOT :sad2: ).

The good thing about the Aldi's Black Cherry ice cream, @Sjm9911, is that DW doesn't like cherries (upsets her tummy) so that means MORE FOR ME.

I'm sorry she can't share in the flavorful joy . Really, I am .....

Bama Ed

PS - and that's all I can offer here becuz as Thumper says .... "If you can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all".
