The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

We do take them, and the dogs and cat. If you get one young and do short rides in car they usually learn to travel well. Likewise if you leave them alone for short periods they should adapt. The problem usually comes into play when you spend too much time with them, then they'll have separation anxiety.

We are back from PA. We got there on thursday night and had dinner with @Teamubr and @tigger92662. We ate at Black n Blue. I thought it was pretty good. Then a quick trip to Wegman’s, the fancy grocery store for a few things. We spent the evening telling stories and I went to bed very late. I did not sleep great at the hotel that night.

On Friday i got up and got my run in. Next we headed to breakfast with the group plus Jenn and @jbrostek. We basically hung out till Jenn had to leave. Then back to the hotel so @Teamubr could change into a suit 😲. finally the funeral and then hung out at the park to talk to the family. I spent some time with Chris’s dad. He paints and he painted some of Chris’s photographs. I could feel the sadness. I was quite aware of it with my dad when my brother died. It is hard to lose a child. Then the out of towners went to dinner. Again hung out till late.

saturday Bert and I met Jim and Joe before they got on the road to St Luis. Then I ran my 8 miles. bert and I then headed to state college. it was about 1.5 hours away. We lived there our first 5 years of marriage with the last two being when Bert went to grad school at PSU. We drove by our old house and then went to the city. had launch at the Tavern, where college kids had parents take them as it was expensive. A staple for PSU alumni. Then we walked around campus.

then we went to our favorite dairy, Meyer dairy, for ice cream. we lived here 2000 to 2005. This was a staple as it was cheap and good, our favorite thing was a chocolate ice cream soda with Oreo cookie ice cream. Back in the day about $2.00. We made it there, still open. Ice cream soda still on the menu for only $4.00. I ordered my usual and the kids were like OMG someone ordered it and I have never made one. We definitely were the talk, but someone knew and showed them. It was delicious. Then we drove to Jenn’s. We hung out and che led out the rig. then went to dinner with Jenn. It was good to spend some time with her. She is a strong woman.

Sunday I was a slug. It was the NYC marathon and it was on ESPN2 so I watched it. Then we went to the airport. We landed early which was good. We had exactly 1.5 hours to get Whisky before boarding closed. Made it there in plenty of time. She is exhausted. She sleeps while I wait for dinner.

we are very glad we were a le to be there and expressed everyone’s love to Jenn.

I will add to Kris's post. I hurt to have to meet the Bowman family under these circumstances, but I'm glad we had the opportunity to meet them.

It was an instant connection, just as it was with Chris. Their love for each other and our connection to Disney brought us closer.

Chris's sister Jen, is now on the Dis as @NittanyLionIndy, so watch for her posts and let's keep her in the loop for possible Dismeets, she is near Indianapolis.

As Kris said, we met up saturday morning, but @Teamubr and I had to hit the road as Jim's dad is in the hospital, he is OK, nothing serious.

Left PA at 7:30am, got Jim home to near St. Louis and I was in the driveway at 10:30pm.

Please keep Jenn and the Bowman family in your thoughts and prayers, especially as we near the holiday season

I took the weekend to process, be a little productive and recovery from getting flu & covid anti crud shots Saturday evening.

I was glad to make the services, share some memories, pay my respects and most of all be there for Jenn and family. @garneska is right, Jenn is a very strong woman. Yet she is willing to ask for help, and that takes more strength in my opinion. I agree you could feel the sadness of loosing Chris, yet there was some joy in sharing memories. I wished I could have more time with everyone, though I feel I made the right decision to head home when I did. I was well worn down emotionally by the time I made it to the house after picking up pizza. DW and youngest DD where just on their way back from a CCD activity and oldest DD was at the last season game at her HS. I got to see them all by about 9pm and gave them all a big hug. Pretty sure the girls didn't fully comprehend, though I believe mom filled them in later.

Much of my Saturday was spent in the yard, about 3 hours of it on the zero turn. While other neighbors sweep up their leaves and dump them in the woods if they have any or bag them up I mulch them all down so they will break down into rich soil by next spring. However, having not mowed the lawn in 3 weeks and the weather kept it growing, I had to mow the lawn then go back over it with the mulch flap closed. It worked and I will do another round next weekend. That evening the whole family had a scheduled plan to get flue shots and covid boosters. The flu and covid are ramping up in the area, DW had an average of 4 students out all week. After the shots it was dinner on the way back and then Hocus Pocus 2 back at home. The overall consensus was everyone liked this story line better then the first, but they also did a good job tieing them together.

Sunday was an unexpected day of rest. I am pretty sure this is the first time a flu shot or covid shot has knocked me down. I woke up with the expected sore arm and a little achiness. However, once I had some coffee and was about to keep working on the yard I felt like blah. So rather then push it I became one with the couch and kept myself hydrated. It gave me time to decompress a little more and really cherish the friendships I have made both in person and online. I said if a few times about DisBoards and I believe it is true. We are a small community that would cross the country to help each other out if we can. That is a great sense of community to have.

Today I am feeling back to normal and as the week progresses I hope to finish up my last big yard project for the winter which is a 3/4 cord wood shed for our fire pit. I been wanting to build this for a while, and with wood prices not as crazy as they used to be it felt like a good time to do it.

It was great to meet in person. And I do wish it was better circumstances. Who knew the last two years would be so hard to manage to make a meet. Seemed like every time I tried to lock something down the family had other ideas (not that I regret any of our trips.)

Still sorting out the 2023 season, we know we will be down at FW in July. Sure not the best time to go there, though we found July heat is a LOT easier to handle then August. We are going to try Mother's Day weekend at Frech Creek SP again with the hope for drier weather. Might see what we want to do after school is out in June. Wife likes the idea of a Wed-Wed trip rather then using up more weekends and if I can do some work when we are there its less PTO for me to take.

June is the meet at Harrison Bay state park in Chattanooga

Did some Marathon trip planning, because my ADR window opened up yesterday. I will start with what we planned before anything opened. We are staying at the Swan so it is a park heavy trip since we have not been in the parks much. We are planning to take the rig down at the end of jan and bring Whisky.

Friday Jan 6 - Arrive at Swan (around 2) - Run Disney meet up.....wanted dinner at Topolino's.
Sat Jan 7 - Go to HS - dinner plan was Kimono's at the Swan
Sun Jan 8 - Marathon then MK. Wanted dinner at Steakhouse 71 so we could easily get back for MK Enchantment. Have not seen it.
Mon Jan 9 - Epcot - wanted dinner at Flying Fish and then back to Epcot for Harmonious
Tues Jan 10 - AK - planned dinner at Bluezoo at the the Dolphin.

After i booked ADRs yesterday i got this. All park plans remain the same.

Friday - nothing
Sat - Flying Fish (sort of wanted wine and such but next day is marathon)
Sun - Flying Fish (this at least allowed for me to have wine but then i would miss Enchantment)
Mon - La Hacienda
Tues - Tiffins

So i checked again today. This is what is booked now.

Friday - Flying Fish (yeah i can drink wine)
Sat - nothing probably kimono's but might switch to Il mulino or Bluezoo
Sun - Skipper Canteen at MK will make Enchantment
Mon - La Hacienda (hoping Takumi Tei opens but only rumors so far)
Tues - Tiffens still might switch to Bluezoo

So nothing available for Topolino?

That's disappointing.

j
Nope shut out. We did eat there last year and enjoyed it so was willing to go again but Friday was the only day we could make it work. We are happy to have flying fish though on Friday. That was second choice.

@garneska I know its so rough with how little seems to be availible. I also learned to keep trying right around the time the resteraunts open, any cancellations from the night before seem to be freed at that time. I was able to score some better meal times and get some of our ADRs that way for June 2022.

I would love to hear how Tiffins is, I have not eaten there since 2018.

Yeah did the winterizing already. Still got the slides out as I work on some projects. Soon I will pull them all in and shut it down for the winter slumber.
