The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

Nah wont laugh. If this is AT&T DSL service, its possible the cabinet in the field that your house terminates on is still without power. Maybe with luck you'll get your connection back sooner then later. Your casting plan could work well though!

Update on my update:

This afternoon, we had a rain/thunder/lighting storm pass through and I heard a loud CRACK of thunder and power went out for a few seconds and then came back up.

But the phone lines and internet connection (from AT&T) are D-E-A-D. The soonest repair appointment is Wednesday morning.

I can hotspot off my phone as I am now but the Bama-Georgia national championship game is tomorrow night. Maybe I can watch it on my phone YTTV connection and cast it up to the big screen tv.

You have my permission to laugh at me.

Nothing to laugh at. We've had YTTV for about 4 years now, and it's gone out due to internet a couple of times - but those are times that our historic cable would have gone out anyway, so it's a wash. And, it's been far less than the outages and interruptions we had while on DTV.

As for your solution, that's what I've done in these situations - either hotspot from my phone or cast from my device. In fact, the entire camping season is handled by hotspot off my phone. We have a Roku plugged into the television, connect it to my phone, and everything we have set up at home is set up there as well. We can do the same when travelling to Disney or other resorts. We love it!

The android phone hotspot runs the tv. It will use a chunk of my data plan but so be it. Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW. Using the smart tv remote control to run YTTV, i can't find a way to flip to the previous channel (and then back and forth). I'm a notorious flipper during commercial breaks. Is there any way to accomplish that on YTTV with the tv remote?

My biggest con for YTTV. Not even a previous channel function I can find.

Doesn't help you for this particular game, but we have an OTA antenna hooked up to the primary TV too. If it's something like a game, we'll usually swap to OTA just to conserve bandwidth let alone outages.

Yeah I tried the OTA approach a decade ago, PtP. The problem is that in my TV market (central Alabama from the MS state line in the west to the GA state line in the east) the broadcast antennas for all the major networks are in the Birmingham (central AL area) about 55 miles away. I've tried countless "50-60" mile antennas and with the hills in the area (the foothills of the Appalachian Mtns terminate in central AL) the OTA digital antennas don't help. I don't have to go for the $200 model of the 100-mile antenna.

Tonight's game is on ESPN anyway so OTA is not even an option. But I do keep a digital antenna in my camping box for when I can reach OTA antennas. I'll be in the Orlando and SW FL area with DW in the next two weeks but not taking the tv because, well, too much to do :teeth: and too much sunshine :beach:. Usually only take a tv camping in the fall (college football games) or on special occasions (like the Masters Golf Tournament in April).

If somebody could program a "Previous Channel" function on YTTV there would be a swarm of APPLAUSE and a surge in new customers.

I thought I lived in the sticks :duck:

Rough night for you - but it was a good game. Hope you were able to enjoy it at least a bit!

I've never found a previous channel option on YTTV. Closest would be to go back to the parent menu ('home'), where it has windows populated by your recent activity. Your previous channel would often be found there. Takes a couple of clicks, but saves having to run through live tv menu.

Honestly, I think some of these past tv-watching strategies will continue to fade from our evolving interface options. With the ever-dropping proportion of people watching tv as it airs, channel flipping and surfing will be more and more a thing of the past. I often don't even watch football as it airs, anymore. I let the game get about 30-40 minutes in, fast forward through commercials and halftime, and I'm caught up to live as we get into the fourth quarter. This doesn't work if there are two games I'm trying to track simultaneously, but my watch-time is limited enough that I'm typically just focused on seeing the games that really matter for the team I care about.

all tests were postponed due to that thing we don't discuss....Yesterday she finally got her MRI and tomorrow her Holter Monitor gets placed. at least she is still in a good mood.

Glad to hear she is in a good mood, that is important. Prayers go out to her and the family. Hope they can find it and find a solution.

Glad to hear of the forward motion, at least. Prayers for insight and understanding!

On our end, DW and DD16 leave for a unique WDW trip in the morning. We are doing 1-on-1 trips with the kids, this year, in lieu of a family trip. DW will take each of the girls, and I will go with our son. Well, just to make things interesting, DD rushed out of the house on January 1 to try to tend to a stray dog she had seen while parking the car - only to slip on the ice and break her foot in 5 places! She is in a hard cast and completely non-weight-bearing for 6 weeks. So, now they head down, tomorrow, with a wheelchair and some positive attitudes about making the most of a very different trip. Will see how it goes! The good news is that, if anyone can make a great trip out of unusual circumstances, it's her mom!

186 154 (wrong countdown initially) days till Lauren's sweet 16 trip to Disney, I am looking forward to the trip, just not looking forward to navigating the new pay to play services.

Melissa came up with the question of do I want to go somewhere for my birthday this year because of how it lands on a weekend. I been trying to think of where I would want to go. So what is worth a visit in February? So far we thought about Savannah, St. Augustine, New Orleans (notice the trend is toward warmer locations.) Any other ideas worth looking into?

We love the Keys! It's in season so more expensive and tougher to get in to, but definitely warmer!

Vermont to do some skiing. :rotfl2:

We went to Charleston, SC in December 2020 and Miami in March 2021. Both were nice for a long weekend. Cost effective too.

Agree. We spent a wonderful week in the Keys this past Spring. It is pricy, but not much more than FtW for the time of year we were there. It was a great way to 'veg' and recuperate from our days at WDW.
