I'm due to get a lump sum and am planning on going to Disneyworld with my family 2 adults and 4 kids. Just down the calculated it up and in comes in when put into dollars $9000 minimum (We will be flying from the UK). This is with cutting down (no longer staying on site etc) this is including spending money and ticket costs. Listening to the podcast the tipping point discussion really hit home. For that money what could we get down and not last the 2 weeks? Once we have been its gone but we will have the memories!

For that we could go on 2 holidays to the Caribbean all inclusive! :rotfl: I am at the point of thinking of not going now, but I properly will then I don't know when I will go again. I am just wondering how many people are at this tipping point.

We have tipped. We're cruising (not Disney) in the spring instead of going back to Disney.
Now, I said last year I was tipping and they sucked me back in with a 40% pin code, but our last trip was so "meh" that I don't think even that will do it for us this time. There isn't one thing that is making us rethink it, it an accumulation of a lot of things. We thought the food on the dining plan was no longer a value for us, the quality of the food has slipped a bit, the service was subpar on more than one occasion, and the magic is gone. We just feel with all the nickle and dime stuff, whether we personally use it or not, they no longer care. We're not done with Disney forever, but it will be awhile.

I'm not sure I'll hit a "tipping" point of not going, but I'm sure at a point where I go less. Our next trip involved eating off site, going to other attractions and spending less time at Disney because the value seems to be slipping. We love the parks, but eating at the parks and never leaving property is less and less attractive to us.

The price of the Alaska cruise w/ DCL was my tipping point. $12,000 for four adults and one 3 year old child was massively ridiculous.

Not WDW but we were thinking of doing a mini trip to DLRP (as they have the meal vouchers for 'free') but it's looking like £1000 and with the DVC dues and flights for next Dec it looks like we'll just spend a few days seeing somewhere in the UK. Even with the 'free' (I don't think they are free really as the hotel cost seems very high even looking at the low season) meals - which are good for a certain value but I can see them costing more eventually with drinks and more expensive entrees - it's a lot for a 3 night trip.

For us I think we will maybe go every other year (to WDW) but stay a bit longer - definately won't be renting a car now we don't get valet included. It's a shame but if enough people think like this maybe Disney will notice.

I hope they do. They are now beginning to price themselves out of the market. The Disney tickets themselves are a price of late holiday deal to Spain :rotfl:

Of all of the trips you've made to the US where have you been outside of Disney World?

I agree on DLRP - we have priced it up on some many occasions and just said its too much money for the short time you are there. Plus we have to pay for a seat on the train for DD as the travel free offer earlier in the year didn't include a seat on Eurostar unless the child was 4!!

We will still go to WDW as we have DVC and we will rent a car and eat offsite. We are not doing the dining plan anymore and it is just too much money and the food is not that good. We will also visit some of the other attractions as we have 2 yr AP's for Seaworld and the $99 offer on universal is tempting too.

As I have mentioned before I have hit my tipping point for now as well. Our trip in August of this year is our last for now. It's not that I can't afford to go it's just that in this economy the constant raising of prices while removing perks for both Disney and the Airlines really irks me. Our current plan is a local cruise on RCCL or Carnival.

We didn't go to WDW in 2009. Combination of high cost with priorities for our finances.

I'm hoping to make a trip to DL in 2010. I think I can swing a one week trip to Southern California next year.

I think I'm priced out of WDW, but that's OK. There are so many other places I need to see before I die (to quote a series of books).

for me, it has less to do with the price point/value, but the way the company is being run, and how it is treating its guests and employees.

it's been over 10 years since i went to Disney last, and i still desperately want to go, but it's like, i can wait until they wake up, ya know? and if they don't...well, i really won't feel like i'm missing out on much.

I was acutally just thinking about this very thing this morning, and was going to come on here and post about it!

I recently started listening to all of the podcasts from the beginning, and even back then, Pete and the gang talk about having a 'tipping point' and wondering when it will be reached. I honestly think it has been for the average vacationer.

We have tipped. We're cruising (not Disney) in the spring instead of going back to Disney.

I totally agree with you. Really, one of the only ways we have been able to budget our trips/justify them was with free dining. But we decided after this year's trip, that if we had to pay for the dining plan, we would not, but it doesn't seem to be worth it. Even with getting it for free, the quality of food and service in the majority of restaraunts was so very aggrivating that we don't even feel that getting the free dining is a good deal anymore. We'll be going back as well, but it won't be in the near future.

We have started talking about our vacation next year, and spending it in Orlando strictly at Universal, Sea World, etc. It just seems to be a better deal for your money. Whether that's where we end up or not, we are looking at other places where we feel we'll get more out of our money. One of those possibilities does include staying and eating offsite, because the perks of staying onsite are slowly dwindling or becoming lower in quality.

We are the type of family that has to budget a certain amount to go on vacation and save for it, and with Disney consistently raising their prices, the price to go there is going to be higher than our budget very soon. It's really very sad, it seems that they are TRYING to price themselves away from people with lower budgets.
