Cool! There was a Mexican kid in my high school Spanish class, and everyone was talking about him taking the class for an easy 'A', because his family spoke only Spanish at home. But it turned out he took the class to learn to write in Spanish, since his parents were illiterate. I was impressed.

That's what happend with my brother his first year of college. He took a Chinese class but it wasn't the classmates that said it, it was the teacher. He treated my brother like dirt because he thought he wa in the class to show off. He was also really mean to him the entire semester.

its the darned R's that have me blocked in spanish. I cannot roll them. But i think I'll be able to pick up Italian easily because of my French background since its a romance language too. I was explaining this to my mom and she was like

GEEZ go to bed SHAWNA!

NIGHT!

I cant either. Am I disgrace to my peeps or what? I can barely ask how to get to the bathroom, I cant roll my r's, and I am about as pasty white as my German husband.

ah man gf wait till you hear me talk it...you wouldnt believe all the looks i get from mexicans when I speak spanish...i got it down pat i always get asked with a puzzled look on their face if im mexican im like do i look mexican??? im white as rice dude!!

Spaniards and some people in S. America are pretty white, too, even blond! I love it when somebody's talking smack in a foreign language and the person they're talking about understands the language and throws it right back in their face.

Dh wants to learn Vietnamese JUST for this reason! Half the guys at his shop are white rednecks... The other half are Vietnamese... The will sit around and talk to each other, and all the other guys get pissed because they dont know what they are saying!

I'd like to learn how to speak Tagalog. I know a few words but that's about it.

Japanese is a very easy language to learn, phonetic pronunciation and very regular verb conjugation and so forth. One of my college Spanish teachers was half-Japanese, half-Spanish, and was raised in Europe. (GEESH, he spoke MANY languages!) He'd teach us a bit of Japanese if he still had stuff on the board from his Japanese class.

Cool! Im trying to get dh to take some machining programing classes. They offer it at our local Tech. School, and I know that he would really like doing something like that. but he is scared to try something new. Its not like he would have to change jobs or anything, but it would bump him up to a different classification at work. Plus a HUGE raise. I dont know... We talked about it this weekend, and I really wish he would. Other wise he might just get stagnant at his job.. And I dont want that for him. He is only 32, and I dont want him getting burned out so young.

Kanji is NOT easy. He did show us a bit about that, but not anything I remembered well enough to be able to do. Very interesting, though, the meaning of each stroke and its shape.

Why on earth does he need bifocals already??? I still dont' have them, and I'm old enough to be his... older sister.

Japanese is hard. IT has like 200 letter alphabet.
