May 1, 2008: After receiving a reader email about animals being removed from the AKL savannas, AllEars® talked with DVC spokesperson Diane Hancock:
"As the development of Kidani Village continues at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, crews are preparing to complete the new savanna and acclimate the animals to their new habitat. To accommodate this important process, animals are not scheduled to be on Sunset Savanna from Jan. 15-April 15, 2009.
Members and Guests who reserve a savanna-view room during this time will be advised of this process, and confirmations for those bookings will include a notation to that affect. Approximately 30 days prior to arrival, the resort will determine, based on occupancy and booking date order, which Members will be assigned to a Sunset Savanna view room. Member Services will notify affected Members, who, after their stay, will receive a Vacation Point credit reflecting the difference between a savanna view and standard view. hi stopher, how was your week long camping trip?

Ahh - thanks for asking dvczerfs. It was grrrrrreat! We had such a blast. I am so envious of my son for getting to this AS A KID... I wish my parents had had my brother and I in the boy scouts growing up. We had a really nice time. My son was thrilled that I was able to be there with him - but at the same time wanted me to keep my distance (he's just "too cool" - ya know?) I really enjoyed watching him accomplish new things, and learn new skills.

With all of the flooding in the midwest, the lake was still 10-11 feet above normal - but the scout camp was the only one on the lake able to swim given they have removable/moveable docks. An entire roadway where the docks "should" be was well under water.

The other adult leaders and I had a blast kickin' it whenever the boys were off doing their merit badge classes - and felt like such kids ourselves. There was a killer water fight one afternoon between the adults - along with an archery competition one night (I didn't win, but I did place), rifle shooting, a very relaxing pontoon ride on the lake, and so many other cool things to do. The boys also put on some great shows at the nightly campfires.

The weather was great all week long, with only 1 pop-up shower on Wed afternoon for like 15 minutes - until Friday night. A storm was moving in right at the time of the closing campfire - so the entire show had to be moved inside the dining hall. There were over 600 boys and leaders in camp last week - so the mobilization was incredible to watch and be a part of. It turned out that we were under a tornado watch - and it was also amazing to watch how well the camp staff was able to divert the boys' attention and keep everyone entertained while monitoring the situation very closely.

It poured bucket loads for hours. Tons of lightning and thunder - and very strong winds - but nobody was hurt in any way. We were prepared, and blessed with no tornadic activity in our direct vicinity. The only "damage" so to speak was that the camp power went out in the dining hall and trading post - but the boys were all thrilled Sat. morning when the Trading Post had to give away all of the ice cream bars or trash the melting mess! Yum, yum - Klondike bars and other goodies at 8:30 in the morning! Couldn't complain about that... :lmao:

Now in 2 weeks I go to Webelos Adventure Camp with my younger son - that's just a 3 night excursion - but he's really looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to watching him try new stuff too and having a blast with him as well (he won't get the week long camping til 2010).

Then when we return from camp we're off to CA and Disneyland!!! :yay:
