Heard on the Boat:

G-Man: Daddy I have a fish

Me: Are you sure

G-Man: Well, my bobber went under

Me, now looking back: Reel him in Bud!!

G-Man: I don't think I can do that

Me: Why not.

G-Man: Because it's an alligator.

Me, now stepping over to him: What the "peanut butter"...

Sure enough, he's hooked a 3 foot alligator. Hooked a fish first, the alligator ate the fish...and here's my 3 year old reaching down to "pull the alligator off":scared1::scared1:

I can't figure it out, I can lose a 5 inch bream on this rod, but I can't shake this gator off--finally just cut the line.

Thank **GOD** his mother wasn't there:headache:

Hmmm... I measured my 4.5yo daughter this morning, and she's only a hair over 3.5 feet. I imagine your little dude and the alligator were not too far apart in size. Good thing he let you know what was going on.

We will suspend the whole "pics or it didn't happen" rule in favor of family harmony. :rolleyes1

Quiet here today...

Epcot dining recommendations...?
Anyone try Restaurant Marrakesh?

It's been years, but it was okay. For Epcot, Chefs de France, Le Cellier, and Teppan Edo are all good. Even the CS at Epcot is good, particularly Sunshine Seasons and Tangerine Cafe. Restaurant Marrakesh, though, does have Belly Dancers, for what it's worth...

Happy birthday Nate!

Stage 1 (data replication) and Stage 2 (move Drobo from WinXP machine to Mac Mini) of the home data migration project are complete.

Stage 3 (reformat Drobo to HFS+ format) is underway. Once reformatting is completed, we move on to:

Stage 4 (copy replicated data back to the Drobo)

Stage 5 (Move Mac Mini iTunes Library to Drobo)

Stage 6 (Reorganize / De-Duplicate Media Library on the Drobo)

Stage 7 (Get CrashPlan backups set back up with Mac Mini/Drobo as the new target)

Eventually, this will result in finally retiring the last two machines in the house that run Windows. The mail server is last, because I'm dreading the possible mess of the legacy data transfer.

What's the mail server software? And are you moving to the stock setup on OS X Server (postfix/dovecot)?

Hey guys.

Long time no post, I know. It's been a really wild, roller coaster of a year for me. In the past few weeks I've had a scare at work with almost being out of a job, my wife tells me that the docs are now saying that my FIL probably has 4 -12 weeks remaining to live (though 4-6 is probably more realistic), and my dad - who I've never had a good relationship with, and basically been estranged from for the past 12+ years - decided after his mom's death this summer that it was time to get involved with his sons & his grandchildren once again (he hasn't seen them since my daughter who is 7.5 yrs old was 13 months). So he came for a visit this weekend. Arrived Thursday evening. Today I had to rush him to the emergency room, and sat with him there for several hours before he was admitted to a regular room for continued observation and tests. Based on the symptoms he had been describing to us, we thought it might be a mini-stroke, and yeah, I got him in the jeep and got to the hospital asap. The docs think so too. He was due to fly home tomorrow but now has to change his flight til Wednesday at the earliest, but we'll know more in the morning. First I was on edge all weekend due to the bad years of our relationship, and then I was on edge all afternoon not knowing what the tests would show. I know that God has a plan for this, but wow, what a day. I'm beat. Now to find airfare for my DW to get out west and spend more time with her dad...

Just wanted to stop in and say hey. I haven't been around much - but I'm still here. I pop in every so often. Thanks for all the prayers in the past. I would sure appreciate some more now.

Take care guys.

You take care, sir. You have more than enough to deal with right now, it sounds like, and thank you for taking the time to keep us updated here.

In better news, after the electrical work was finished here at work today, all the servers came back up. Hooray!

What I'm running now is a package called DeskNow. It was a terrific package for its time, but development has essentially been abandoned, and I've decided I'm done operating my own mail server. (It's not really its own mail server right now anyway. It's functioning as an MTA via my ISP account's mail server).

I'm turning over the webmail side of my Email set up to Google For Your Domain. The complicated part that I'm terrified I will screw up is the five years worth of Email currently stored by the MTA. Because it's an MTA and not a standard mail server, it's on an odd address for a mail server (ajritz.xyz.com, for example). What I'm HOPING is that I can change the MTA config to enable it as its own mail server again, activate the GFYD account, and then set up each user account within GFYD to slurp in the messages currently stored in that user's account on ajritz.xyz.com. But I'm not sure that will work, and if it doesn't, it'll be a PITA.

This almost sounds like an encoded defense system communication! "Sir! I've lost the bleeps, I lost the sweeps, and I lost the creeps." :lmao::lmao:

If the DeskNow server is set to allow IMAP, I'd be tempted to set up that IMAP account and a GFYD IMAP account under the same Email client, and just use that to move the folders over. It has some amount of manual slogging, but you could verify each transfer. I'd trust that more than any automated slurping tool.

Consecutive post Labor Day Ownage.

Yikes, 2 hours stuck on POTC? I wonder if they could jump out at the town and use the bathroom there. And some complain about IASW!

Fall session has arrived. Oldest dd (9) had three days of dance (one she is paid student leader), youngest dd (7) has soccer practice, games, and dance. I have coaches meeting tonight. It starts all over again ...

Wow, and I thought all the DW, DS, DD, FIL, IASW, etc. code was confusing.

Just saying hi all, trying to get this and that done around here. Ended up taking the kids to the Canadian National Exhibition yesterday while DW slept a headache away, a total last minute thing, but it kept my attendance streak alive. Crowded as hell, made WDW look like an empty park, but it's the reason I usually never go on Labour Day. We didn't do much, but the girls had fun, that was what counts:thumbsup2

oh, and on that whole work/transfer thing from early this summer, turns out I was slated to go in the early-spring round of transfers, but my boss vetoed it, citing he was already losing valuable staff and didn't want to be stripped of competent people. Found out Thursday from the DM himself, when he stopped by the store, and we had a brief one-on-one. It's still going to happen, just no timeframe on it, the way we discussed the upcomming Xmas season, it might not be till next year anyways.

The CNE - haven't been there in a few years. Every now and then I get lured in, but after I leave I seem to remember why I avoid it.

The work news - has to be a bit encouraging. At least your boss is fighting (although rather underhandedly) to keep you. :thumbsup2

Hmmmm... October 3rd is a Monday... and they are closed... so I guess I have a pretty good reason not to be there! :lmao::lmao: Care to try a different date?

:scared1: I was looking at Sept:lmao: We will be there Oct 1st, we are doing Kings Dominion the night before :yay:

Quote from tutter99 off of the caption contest

"What do you mean your Dad and his friends have a whole thread full of pictures of me and the other princesses?"

Whoa wait. Why had i never thought of looking for these.

I can't beleive that thought has never crossed my mind. WTH???

I guess i have something to look forward to tomorrow.:rolleyes1

Looks like the wife is spoiled now:lmao:

You may remember last year when we stayed at a Hotel in Ashland Va that IMO should have a date with the wrecking ball:lmao:

Last week on the way home she was real nervous about staying somewhere she was not familiar with due to the Ashland adventure, so we got off in Florance SC, there must have been at least 20 places to stay, I pointed to a Comfort Suites, I went in to see if a room was available, I thought this place would be somewhere in the $200 range, turned out to be $104 with my AAA discount:banana: Our jaws droped when we got to the room, thought I was at the Grand Floridian:goodvibes A Wall St Journal was at the door in the morning:eek:

Now that we are planning a trip at the end/beginning of the month, I was going to book the place we always stay, she said I wonder if there is a Comfort Suites by Busch Gardens, sure enough there is:yay: This one looks even better then the one in Florance:woohoo: We will be there for 2 nights and she can't wait to get to the hotel, guess she feels like a Princess there:goodvibes

Agreed.
But that requires using an Email client. I deplore just about all Email clients. I much prefer webmail. If I use an Email client, then I pretty much have to keep using one. I access my Email from too may different machines/devices to be comfortable working in an Email client that only runs on one machine.

Of course I am not very computer programming savvy so I'm not sure of all "Philby" there is talking about but..... I'm sure he'll figure it out.
