Exactly Doc, and with two princesses they were somewhat disappointed. However, I reminded them we are going with Grandma and Grandpa and that is way more special then eating in the castle. I hope I didn't have tears in my eyes when I told them because I am not sure that is true for all of us going

Just wait, it gets harder... I had the fun of dropping my child-in-a-man's-body off two weekends ago for his first "pre-staff" weekend ... Today is his final day as a high school freshman, and tonight I get to go drive him and leave him as he begins his working summer at camp. We'll get to see him for less than 24 hours each Sat for the next 10 weeks. (Everyone under 18 must go leave camp between 11am Saturday - 11am Sunday. WOW. It has gone fast - it seems he was just as tall as my waist a short time ago and wanting to play with daddy all the time ... but apparently not as now he's as tall as me and much more interested in activities with his buddies here, there and everywhere - and mom and dad are more of an afterthought.

...AND I've been told it gets even harder by a really good friend of mine who just watched one of his daughters graduate law school 2 weeks ago, and gave his daughter away in marriage 6 months ago. He has two more at home, a son Harrison's age, and a daughter about Matthew's age - so his emotional roller coaster will only continue for numerous years to come... plus he figures he'll have a grandchild before his son graduates high school - so that will add an entirely different dimension to their lives.

It does go fast. Enjoy it while you can Barry!

I get choked up everytime I think of how much my girls have grown. When they did their crossing over ceremony at AHG I literally cried. It was just a short time ago that I was standing over their cribs in the NICU wondering what in the world was I supposed to do with these two things.

My sixteen-year –old surprised me yesterday. I picked him up form school and we were on the way home when I pulled into the post office to toss a couple of letters into the box. He asked what I was up to, and I said I was making sure that the mortgage payment got into the mail a quick as possible. That was followed by a short description on my preferred method of the bill paying process (things to consider, the order in which the various obligations get covered, the list of those that will just have to wait if necessary, general thoughts…). He mulled on it for just a moment and then said: “It seems to me like being an adult is exhausting.”

I just smiled…

So I'm currently hanging out at my house. Why you ask? The gas company randomly found a gas leak. So I'm here with the plumber hoping to get it fixed so I can have the gas turned back on by the end of business, or I get to take a cold shower tonight.

We have a privately owned aquatic center here that DS goes to for swim lessons. They have a program called Scuba Rangers that he will start next year, its kind of like cub scouts but they do a lot of swimming, water safety, and conservation. As they progress they start teaching the kids snorkeling and then get into some diving to get them ready to start on their junior certification. You might want to check and see of any dive shops in your area have it.

That sounds pretty neat. I know we have at least one dive shop up here (for those 3 months each year that the ice is thin enough to break through and swim in). I'll have to see if they have any classes for the kids.

oh great, another tornado warning. im about to buy a farm and a small dog named toto. what the peanutbutter is going on.

reminds me of a quick "stick your foot in your mouth dave" story. when we purchased this house, i wanted to finish off the basement. one sat. my wife invited the inlaws up for diner. great, here comes syskol and ebert!! anyway, im in the basement and i told my wife to give me a yell around 4pm so i can get a shower before they show up. well, i had the radio going, i didnt hear the front door open and the inlaws were in the kitchen, near the open basement door. my wife yells down the steps, "david, your mother-in-law is here!" david yells, and i quote, "thats funny, i didnt hear the broom pull in"!!! i thought it was funny!! my father in law was laughing also but that was about it.

Family is off visiting our "vacation home" AKA the house we couldn't sell when I got a new job, so I will have sometime to finally organize all those digital pictures and reflect on where time has gone. Not a lot of time though because I think the last pictures I got filed were of DS in his biliblanket and since then DD has come along and DS is almost up to my shoulder.

Alright guys . . . I got the green light on a 4-night adult getaway. I'm torn between mid-October for some Food & Wine goodness (which we always enjoy) or early December for some holiday cheer (candlelight processional, resort tours).

I tried to get the "both" idea passed through, but I lost that one. Pros and Cons? I'm anxious to book my plane tix!
