It's a good thing I didn't convince DW to book a Disney trip for this summer.
Barring any surprises, I'll be in employment limbo starting Monday at around Noon (we're supposed to come in for four hours on Monday morning to "assist in effectuating an orderly shutdown.").

I am also coming out to Denver, but will just miss Aaron by days (getting there the 15th). Staying around the convention center somewhere. I know that I'm free either the 17th or 18th if anyone wants to meet up, get a drink, have dinner, etc.[/B][/COLOR]

Give us a shout closer to the date. There is 2-3 of us in the metro area that would love to hook up and go to dinner. Whats the occasion that brings you to the Mile High City?

sorry you had to deal with this guy all year, thank god its almost over. we have gone through a few years ourselfs with some not so great people. when our dd was in 2nd grade, it was determined she had an iep. very long story short, they wanted to push her along and just basicly push her into the cracks. we didnt bring a learning specialist with us to our first iep meeting, we brought our lawyer!! who my wife worked for at the time and is now a pa state judge.shes now a sr. in high school and is on the honor roll!! thank god she has run into alot of good teachers over the years that even to this day will help her if she has a problem with the work. she loves math and is a wiz at all the maths. english and writing is not one of her strong points.(dont know were she gets its from)but pulls a strong b in it. shes not on of theose kids that it just happens for, she has to work for everything she gets. we had a few frustrating years in the earlier years but she has learned how to handle the sysyem on her own.

a week or two ago a dad was talking about his dd dance comp. and the song cinderella by steve curtis chapman. ive seen steve a few times over the last few years, at epcot in the cand. process and also in concert. i found this few min. video on his family. i still have yet to figure out how he sings that song and gets through it.:

Yup, us as well...We'll have to work...just not get paid....Congress, on the otherhand, continues to draw pay. How'd you like to be a Marine in Afghanistan heading out on patrol--with no pay....I know what I'd be saying..."Patrol? What Patrol?"

I kind of wondered if you or Fed would be affected by this... although it sounded like your position would be one that would likely be affected. I hope they can get something worked out and not even have a shutdown to worry about. I guess the odds of our lawmakers reaching an agreement on anything are slim to none though. Good luck, and hopefully it won't be anything that is long and drawn out.

I'm not holding out hope...they should put all of them in a room, lock the doors and not let them out until they come up with something

I didn't hear the 'official' announcement but I would say there was a 2% chance he was going to stay.

The kid from Duke that is coming out (irving, I believe) played like two or three games and some have him number 1. Kemba has a much bigger body of work. Also, with the kid from Ohio St. and the ones from NC staying the draft will not be deep.

Okay,

I got in a little trouble for posting this "publically" on facebook (from my DW), so I thought I'd vent more freely here.

Had my son's end of the year PPT today (this is the big meeting with the school principal, teacher, special ed staff, psychologist, OT, etc where you review how things are going and the plan for next year). He transitioned to the 5th & 6th grade school this year, and all year, my son's teacher has not been on-board with the plan. He's one of those "I-don't-really-believe-autism-is-real" guys who thinks that if you just crack down on these kids, they'll be fine. Been a pain in my *** all year. My son is extremely intelligent, but definitely has autism so cannot relate to social situations, doesn't not unstand non-verbal cues and "freaks out" with chaotic and unstructured environments (such as the ones that occurred all year). It was like we were back to square one, 4 years ago before his diagnosis. A real nightmare!

Thank God for the wonderful special ed teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists and school psychologists who have managed to piece together a support system for my DS even without this ******* on board with the plan. It got so bad, that since December the principal had my DW and myself on his calendar for an hour every month to hear us complain about this teacher. That has been gratifying, too, since it is not lost on this guy's boss that he's an idiot.

Fortunately, I am very blessed to have a good friend who is also a developmental pediatrician (and autism specialist) who we brought to this meeting today. He really smacked this teacher down today. It was a joy to behold! If any of you have to endure PPTs, I highly recommend bringing an impartial friend (who is not the parent). When I have to conduct family meetings at work (on the other side of the fence), this is what I recommend to families. If nothing else, it makes it seem less like a pile-on.

The only upside to this year is that it has continued to bring us closer as a family, and in particular to bring DW and me closer. I know that often these diagnoses break families apart, but fortunately, we have not sufferred that fate. And like my friend the developmental pediatrician says, every good school year is like money in the bank. Well, it wasn't a good year, but it could have been a lot worse.

Thats what we are here for Chris, vent away! You are always going to find guys here that are willing to listen and give you support. It's great to see that you guys are involved and care. There are a lot of times that parents just don't care and are to involved in their own lives to fight for and support their kids. If we don't fight for our kids who will?

Thats a great idea! I bet another thing that would work would be to outfit them all with some desert BDU's, outfit them with some old gear that was around since the first Gulf war, put them on a C-130 to Afghanistan and tell them they are going on patrol until they come up with a solution. I got money that says they have a solution before the first prop spins!

I know what it is like to have admistrators try to discontinue services, Having had two boys who where born premature,both at different times. We (more ike DW) spent way too much time in DR's offices trying to get diagnosis after diagnosis,especiay on my oldest one, he was born at 28 weeks and spent about 130 days in the NICU, they think he suffered a brain bleed in utero thatn had a possibe stroke in the first few hours of life. After finally getting a CP diagnosis and heading into special ed, only to discover that because he walks normal and had normal thinking patterns, and the only visibe problem was a speech delay...the "admin" people didn't think anything was needed, THANK GOD for DW...she was the fighter and it was trying times...finally getting people to see the CP diagnosis...and the horribe leg pains that they owuld say where growing pains...BS!...we eventually had a great case worker who saw through everything and went to bat for us....NOW...on the second boy who has speech issues and was born at 34 weeks we had a better understanding how the "SYSTEM" worked and were able to figure it out....THERE is always a brite side, the oldest after 7 years was able to get off the special ed list and has no other IEP's .....there is the fact that he can't run as fast or play organized sports that well like his bud's but that to me is no big deal, his legs still hurt after long wallks or running around, but he is vry intelegent and figure stuff much better than his 42 yo dad....Thanks for sounding off here we will always listen....as the 4 yo he is just plain crazy.......
