Lets call this the "come to my little neck of the woods" game.:thumbsup2

What I would like to see is for Dads to put in a little post about what would be nice for someone to see or do while visiting your area.It can be anything from theme parks,to museums,Sporting events, could be something busy or even just a relxing trip to the beack or woods, could be anything anything!!!
The thing here is to pretend I (or other Dads) is a tourist and you are a travel agent trying to get me to visit your area.Give some ideas of what there would be to do if I (we) came to visit your neighborhood.List places to stay, maybe places to eat etc.
The reason I ask for this is I am looking for a road trip or two to do with the family this year, and would like to do something different.

As a Reds fan, I have always disliked the Cubs, but after all the stuff between the Reds and Cards last year, there's finally another NL Central team I dislike more than the Cubs.:rotfl2:
true, hope the cards go down this year, one of the teams along with the yankees i really dont like.

thanks
Central - just northeast of Indianapolis

thanks, and a newbie question here, what does your small font refer to?

or is it an inside joke?

Not really close, but not too far either... probably about 2 hours.

Purdue grad here... although I've been to Muncie once or twice...

Kind of an inside joke... first poster on a page gets to claim ownage of that page. Every once in a while it can get a little competitive kind of like the 57 pages of posts trying to be the one to get the last post in our last thread.

I like this idea. If you're going to be in my neck of the woods (Greater Kansas City area) highlights include:

1. BBQ - The BEST BBQ in the world. Lots of great choices, including Arthur Bryant's, Jack's Stack, Gates & Sons, Rosedale, Oklahoma Joe's - when my brother visits from Chicago for a week, he eats at a different BBQ restaurant every night.

2. KC Royals Baseball - newly renovated stadium and day-of-game tix as cheap as $11 retail. With a bit of lead time, you can get good tix cheap.

3. Worlds of Fun - thrill-ride amusement park (now owned by the folks who own Cedar Point in Ohio).

4. Kansas City Zoo - the new Africa area is quite nice, as is the new polar bear habitat

5. Harry S Truman Presidential Library - a bit of a trek out in Independence, but well-done

6. Powell Gardens - nice botanical gardens, near the Truman library

7. Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead - laid back fun for the little ones. Petting zoo, playgrounds, etc. Out in the Soutwestern 'burbs (near me). Admission is free during the week and only $2/person on weekends.

8. Country Club Plaza - one of the first outdoor shopping mall districts in the United States. Fun shopping, great historical Spanish-influenced architecture, parks to run around in, lots of fountains, good restaurants.

9. T-Bones Northern League Baseball - Independent Minor League baseball. Fun atmospher. The best seats in the house are $16/each. Parking is free. And the only T-Rex restaurant outside of Downtown Walt Disney World is just up the street.

10. Newly-opened Schlitterbahn water park. (I haven't been yet, but it looks pretty cool)

Well considering that KC is my neck of the woods too, I am going to say ditto

Would this be the area that is maybe just referred to by some as "the Plaza?" I went out to KC for training for a few weeks back in Oct 2005 and they put is in a hotel in the plaza. I don't think I ever heard it referred to as Country Club Plaza though. I know there were a lot of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel including an Italian place and a Cheesecake Factory that got visited more than once. I caught a game at Arrowhead too while I was out there... you need to add that to your list of local attractions. Great atmosphere for an NFL game.

Stopher really stole any thunder I had for this post over the weekend though. That's alright though, he's earned it.:thumbsup2

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has allowed me to be a part of this club and put up with my mindless drivel for the past 1,000 posts. I'm proud to be a part of this fine group of Dads and I look forward to some fun conversations that I'm sure will take place on down the road!

Things to Do in Reading, PA:

1. Get out as quick as you came in.

2. Go to the Pagoda. Yep someone built a Pagoda on the mountain over looking the city. Nice to see but not somewhere you want to spend a lot of time at.

3. Outlet shopping. Not as good as it was, most of the big outlets moved out.

4. West Reading Main Street - Nice shopping area and restaurants. Similar to Manayunk but smaller.

6. Cabelas - Always a great place to go.

7. Dis Dad meet with me!

8. Close enough to Hershey Park (50Mins or so) to make a two day trip out of it.

You are close enough that you probably did a lot of this. Number 1 and 4 are probably the most exciting. We are close enough to Philly that I would recommend to anyone that they go there instead.

Sherm's Marine:thumbsup2

That's about 60 miles north of me.

And oh yeah, you're getting old there Mike. You actually said that, several threads ago...but then I remember simply because it was applicable to me at the time given it was a direct question posed to me. Of course there were also far fewer Indiana guys in the DDC back then too (I purposely did not say Hoosiers, since I'm not truly one. My DD is, but I'm not. 9 yrs later and I'm still a Golden State boy at heart).
