So here are a few more photos of my wilderness party for my DW...

This pair was found next to the food tables... watching over the festivities. While I didn't capture the words on the sign below in this shot (I wish I had) it read... The Lodge.

The food tables, with the Lodge featured right at the center of it all.

Here is a canvas print we have of Yosemite from the valley floor, with El Capitan right there in its glory on the left side.

And the Guest Book that I created too, with some awesome artwork copied from something one of my Groupies buddies created for me

There was a running slideshow featuring more than 900 shots from my DW's life from infancy through just last month, that just played the entire time. All of the pictures were picked completely at random by the computer. Everyone loved it. Here you can see (strain, but it's there) my family in front of the waterfall at the Lodge. (this was a bit of luck capturing this photo at that precise moment!)

And finally, a few shots of the party itself.

Finally, here's my DW after her initial "surprise" moment, taking it all in, surveying the room - seeing who was there.

It was a lot of fun.

Bad news - the Blues aren't coming anywhere near Southeast Wisconsin this year. I may be forced to go see the - gasp - Air Force Thunderbirds. You won't be mad, will you?

Nah, I won't be mad but you'll be disappointed! LOL! I've never seen the Thunderbirds but I'm sure they put on a great show, too.
Now wait......the Blues will be in Rockford, IL, June 4 and 5 and my son will be there! That's not too far from Racine!

We have a log home with a lot of moose and bears around but nothing like that! Nice job!

More "peanut buttery, Beverly snow!! I am willing to pay $5 to shovel snow! Any takers? That's $5 dollars when the job is done, no sooner!

Usually, when we get 3 or 4 inches of snow, I'll have a couple of teenagers knocking on my door with a shovel, asking if they can shovel for me for a few dollars. Interestingly, when we got 23" and 6' drifts a few weeks ago, they never showed.

Nah, I won't be mad but you'll be disappointed! LOL! I've never seen the Thunderbirds but I'm sure they put on a great show, too.

Stopher: By the description alone, it sounds like it was a wonderful party. I'm going to have to wait until I get home tonight before I can see the pictures of the decorations, but I can't wait to see them.

I can think of 3 good reasons:

1. They're slackers
2. Their cheapskate neighbor pays them the same 5 bucks whether it is 2 inches or 2 feet
3. They're smarter than you think they are

Last May, I surprised my DW by taking her to Disney. If we're married 100 years, I doubt that I'll ever be able to pull something like this off again, so best to immortalize it with a trip report.

Thanks guys. It was a lot of fun to pull together (stressful at times trying to keep it a secret) but fun. I purposely did not tell my DD about it until the day of - after church, before the party - while my DW was taken off to lunch with some girlfriends who later delivered her to the party. My boys knew for about a week prior, and were quite helpful on the homefront, updating me on the mood around the house so I knew how to alter my course as needed. It was especially helpful when DW's suspsicions started to flare up to help me go on the offensive... and yeah, I scored some major points in the "bank" with this one. Not that that's what I was going for, but it sure was a nice result.

My friend who lent me about 1/3 of that decor from their log house is sadly moving away - a new job in Alabama. Their house is for sale. We would buy it in an instant if only we could. We love it, but we weren't ready to market ours yet (looking at about another year or so before we do), and I certainly cannot afford to take on another house payment until we can sell ours. But it would have been sweet to be able to get it. A cabin in the woods is my DW's dream...someday.

Thanks Don... it's also quite helpful that we've been together for half her life, and I know her like a book. It's actually quite funny, but each of the table top "Fun Facts & Trivia" cards that were on all of the tables - there were 10 - each with 10 or 11 facts on them - she had to "review" when we got home to make sure I was right. Hands down every single one was correct. A couple she even did a double take and said, "Really? When did you learn that?" (about some obscure facts from her childhood).... or "wow, even I'd forgotten that..." Now if we'd only been together for 5 or 6 years, then yeah, maybe not.... but after 20 years there's not much about her I don't know. And it will only increase as the years go by.

Thanks... just re-setting the bar guys. But only for "milestones"... I have 10 years til I need to do something like this again. Even Julie said that - the next several can just be back to taking her to the Olive Garden. She loved it, but really isn't a fan of being the center of attention. Nice and quiet is her preferred celebration - but she also gets the need I had to celebrate her in this way. This time. She's done it twice for me, and it was certainly my turn to do so for her.

Dude, I'm AlWAYS looking to score points. Mostly because I seem to earn them one at a time but lose them by the bucketload.
