Help me understand.. :confused3 I listened and was more confused :confused3

The question was, if you were facing a Zombie attack while in Walt Disney World, what would be the best place to be in each park to fend off the attack for as long as possible. There were two key criteria: 1) A secure defensive location and 2) Availability of food/water for an extended battle.

Most of the locations they settled on involved the use of a water feature and height as key defenses. Nearby restaurants and food stands were also important, to maintain supplies without too much exposure to the zombie hordes. :3dglasses

My zombie plan at The World?

Epcot:
The Land. Serious. Detonate a bomb or two in the entry to Soarin' ( :( ), and the same goes for the "Living with the land" ride near the exit to/entrance from the greenhouse, barracade the service entrances to the food court area. You have then one entrance and plenty of access to water/food.

(note: I typed that before I heard the podcast)

The World:
1) Tom Sawyer's island. Stock up on food and cut the rope bridges.
2) CRT - I agree with them on this one.

Animal Kingdom:
You're screwed. On the plus side, you would die happy with all the ribs you can eat at Flame Tree until you die.

Hollywood Studios:
You're screwed. The water in the island for Fantasmic is just inches deep - that won't stop anyone. Though you could ride it out at the Great Movie Ride 'cause even zombies' won't go in there.

What would you do?

I like their idea of The Land in Epcot and Tom Sawyer's Island. Those seem to be the most logical, as far as sustenance and defense.

I'm trying to come up with an Animal Kingdom venue, but it seems like it's definitely a bad park to be trapped in during a zombie attack. I guess only the studios would be worse.

Plug in my ipod earplugs then head to it's a small world. Even they couldn't stand that song for more than 5 minutes! :rotfl2:

I think some of the resorts would give you a better advantage. Disable the elevator and the California Grill is a good place. Plus, gives you good height to see around. Top of the World at the Bay Lake Tower is another good choice for similar reasons.

My son & daughter both think that Tomorrowland is a good place, too. Sitting on the Carousel of Progress would give you nice height, but with some forethought you could arrange a way to raise & lower folks from the platform (so could forage for food). :thumbsup2

Leave IASW alone. I was disappointed when it was closed the last trip.

Proud to admit I enjoy it too. Probably because of many happy memories of one of the places to cool off and let the kids crash when they were toddlers. I also love the TTA.

AJ, I too am willing to help, I'm not a very PC savvey type, but you might be able to think of something I can handle:confused3, I do have to say the It's A Disney World After All sub is great, I've been on the DDC site every week, even if it's to check up on the rumors on IADWAA:thumbsup2

If you can think of something I can do, just let me know:yay:

My apologies for the mess that the DDC web page has become. I'm hoping to get to spend some time sweeping up/reorganizing/etc.

Actually, I've been meaning to post about this for a while. Here's the deal, I could really use some help keeping the site "live." I just can't keep up with it the way things are going at work these days. And dealing with the spam registrations has gotten beyond overwhelming (though at least Akismet has helped to keep the actual spam comments from appearing). Here's what I'd like to propose, and I'd appreciate any feedback:

2) I'd really appreciate a group of Dads who would be willing to volunteer to be regular blog posters.
3) I'm still playing with the idea of trying to do an occassional podcast (maybe 1/month?). Are there a couple of other Dads who are comfortable with using Skype on their computers, have decent microphones/headsets, and might be interested in having a late-night online conversation, talking about being a Disney Dad?

Comments? Questions? Feedback is greatly appreciated!!

I wouldn't say it's a mess (well, except for the spam crap you're dealing with), but it's just been inactive.

Sign me up as a regular contributor. I'd love to be on board. Whether anyone else would want to read my drivel, well...that's a different question.

I don't have a microphone or headset and have never, ever used Skype before. But that's not to say I wouldn't give it a shot in the future.

Wow! Sorry it was such a pain. Thanks for hosting the site and doing all of this behind-the-scenes work! :thumbsup2

Actually, iPhone headphones might work as a Skype headset. If they can be used as an iPhone headset, they've got a built-in microphone. I need to play around a bit on my own end and see if I need to invest in a "real" headset or if I can get away with using my Jawbone bluetooth headset. I've got a recommendation on a good podcasting headset from a friend somewhere, but I'd rather not have to buy equipment to do it if I can help it.

Thanks for stepping up guys :thumbsup2

I just posted a new blog entry, calling for volunteers. Please comment on that entry if you're interested, as I think it will be easier to keep track of over there in that format.

I think this is just the kick in the butt I needed to get us back on track! Watch out world, here comes the DISDads' multimedia assault! :dance3:

I'll check the website, but I'd be willing to try to contribute to a podcast. I don't have the knowledge or fan base that some of you guys have, but I like talking WDW, and would use this to figure out my webcam on the computer.... maybe. I'm similar to Captain Oblivious in that I don't know who'd want to read the nonsense I'd come up with, but I like to think someone might?

On an unrelated note: I got busted doing 79 in a 60 a few weeks back:scared1:. I went to court, and it turns out I wasn't speeding, just illegally parked to the tune of $177.
BUT, no points on my license. :woohoo:
32, and my first speeding ticket ever. Not bad, I don't think.

And dealing with the spam registrations has gotten beyond overwhelming (though at least Akismet has helped to keep the actual spam comments from appearing). Here's what I'd like to propose, and I'd appreciate any feedback:

1) I need to deal with user registration. The site thinks that we have over 300 users. But fully 1/2 of those (at least) are spammers not actual DisDads. The problem is that a certain proportion of those ARE actual DisDad users, and I just can't keep track of everyone anymore. Very soon, I'm going to have to go through and delete a bunch of those spam users. If I accidentally delete a real DisDad, please just let me know and we'll see what we can do to get you reinstated.
2) I'd really appreciate a group of Dads who would be willing to volunteer to be regular blog posters. If I can get seven dads who are willing to write one post/week, plus me, that would keep us going with a steady two article/week fresh content pace. If there are more Dads who want to contribute occassionally, that's great. But I'm hoping that there is a core that would be willing to be regulars.

Count me in AJ. Im open later in the evening as well. Please let me know how I may contribute and Im there. If you need help with the site admin stuff I can help as well.

Morning all! Man, I've got to keep up...had no idea about the DDC blog but just checked it out...VERY impressive!:thumbsup2

Re: Website ('cause I don't want to multi-quote the last 74 pages ;) )

I just found out that, while I can sign in from work, I can't POST or COMMENT from work. BAH! That severely limits my ability to insert any new content. Meh...

AJRitz? My comment to your "Long-Term Planning" post is as follows:

Wait, what? Did I hear 4 days?

5??

Hey just a reminder... the Daytona 500 will take place in just a few days. We have a DIS Dad's NASCAR league on Yahoo for anyone who is interested in joining... there's no limit to how many teams we can have and casual fantasy/NASCAR fans are welcome. Come on over if you're interested.

I signed up this morning. I have always wanted to try fantasy racing, but the guys in my fire company always play for for big bucks, and I wanted to try a free league first. Hopefully gain some experience.

I would also be willing to help out with disdads.com site. I have worked in webdesign in the the past. Most of my designs are gone now, but I was one of the guys behind eParks.com. They have everything about our National Parks. Check it out sometime!

Also, i am not sure I asked yet, but anyone going to WDW at the end of May?

I would love to contribute with some posts! (If you want to open that can o' worms.)

I currently don't have or use Skype, but I think I can figure it out (if not, I might as well be fired from my job!) Sounds like fun and I would give it a try, at least.

I'm glad to see so many willing to step up and contribute. I'm hoping that, by spreading out content responsibility across more people, it'll help keep us from getting into the binge/lull cycle of adding content.

One of the things that I think makes the disdads.com site a little different from other Disney sites/blogs is that we start with a love of things Disney, but that's not all we're about. We're more about bringing that Disney spirit into all the things that we do with our families. Sure, there's lots of Disney-related content there. But we also talk about non-Disney movies and trips that we enjoy with our families, etc.

I'm excited that we've got so many guys interested in the podcast idea. I need to find time to look into a good podcast distribution plug-in for the blog, and see what we need to do to get listed in iTunes. It looks like I'll have some time to do some of these things from work today, as I have a bunch of documents to review that were sent to me as .pdfs, and this ancient printer prints these huge PDF files one . . . page . . . at . . . a . . . time.

I found something I could really use some help with in getting ready to put together a DISDads.com podcast. I have almost no graphics skills. Any of you dads want to take a run at designing a DISDads Podcast logo for us? The base logo should be a 400 x 400pixel square image that is displayed with the podcast in the iTunes Music Store listing. There are other sizes we need as well, but I'm pretty good at manipulating an existing image - not so good about creating an image from scratch.

The tricky part is to convey who the DISDads are, without using any of Disney's copyrighted images.

Anybody have a clipart of a big cheeseball passing gas???...no..anybody??? Just a thought.

Can we use a personal photograph of stuff like Cinderella's Castle or other items at Walt Disney World? Or can you not use the images at all, no matter who owns the photo?

Also, CosmicReid just flashed this on his Twitter feed: cosmicreid #Disney fans! Want your site, blog, podcast or other featured on www.CosmicReid.com AND mentioned on our weekly program? Send us a DM! ;)

i would help arron but you would spend more time trying to fix what i did than i would be of any help.:lmao: they dont even let me run the postage machine at work. if it dont work like i want it to, i just start pushing every button on it. the girls in the office say, " just let it there, ill do it.":lmao:
