I'm 41 and I still get that fired up...not for Handy Manny but definitely for Disney! That story is what it's all about!
I went to the AAA office yesterday to put the $200 down for our Disney trip this fall. The "Disney lady" in the office has been around for quite a while and has booked several trips for my parents over the years. While I don't really need a travel agent, I do enjoy the occasional perks AAA provides, and it is always nice to sit and talk with her about Disney.
Anyway, while I was there yesterday morning, I had to wait on her to finish with a family that got there before I did. They had a young daughter, probably 4, and they hadn't told her they were going to Disney World. They were sitting there looking through the brochures while the TA was taking care of doing the paperwork and talking about the characters and various things to see. All of a sudden a light went off and that little girl figured out what was going on. She started getting excited and asked who she'd get to see there. Her mom told her that they are going to Disney World, she'd get to see Cinderella, Mickey, etc... and she'd get to eat breakfast with Handy Manny. Apparently the magic words are "breakfast with Handy Manny." She then started running around the office telling everyone in there that she was going to eat breakfast with Handy Manny. They finished and left with the little girl still bouncing off the walls. I sit down with the TA and we both have a little laugh about that little girl, then she mentions that 9 months is going to be a long wait for her breakfast.
I just thought it was really neat to see that reaction. Kind of like getting a little dose of Disney magic by just going to book my trip. Excitement like that is contagious, but I feel sorry for her parents now.![]()

Another KY Dis Dad. I'm a few hours west of you. Welcome.
First offAny help is appreciated. If you feel better giving the advice through PM, that's fine. It might help keep the clutter down on the thread.
I guess you answered my question from my thread. LOLAnd today I met Greg (billybobblockhead) and his oh so very charming wife and kids. We spent about 4.5 hours together in Epcot. It was awesome! Together we rode Soarin' 3x... first getting a FP (9:57), then riding it, riding Living With the Land and then going back for our FP and getting another FP (12:00), then doing Spaceship Earth and Test Track - then back for our next FP. We did get another FP for like 6:45 or something like that, but we had parted ways after eating lunch together and I didn't go back, and they didn't either that I'm aware of. But it was great. Hopefully I will get to meet up with Brody (dadio) tomorrow still.
Wow, great thread and club! I can't believe I just found it. So, I would like to be a member please.
CRUD!
Hey guys. Anyone around here still remember me? I believe the last time I checked in I was getting ready to try a case in St. Louis. That case has been tried, briefs turned in, and we're still waiting for a decision from the judge.
Tomorrow, I drive up to Omaha for pre-trial meetings in another case. This time, I'm facing off with the largest agribusiness company in the country. Trial starts on Wednesday.
I've got three more lined up after this one. I'm hoping that the pace slows down eventually and I'm able to start putting together another Disney trip. I'd like to get another trip in before The Bug becomes a Disney adult, but it doesn't look like that's going to be possible. I'm thinking the next trip is likely to be about a year away at the earliest, and maybe two. Squeaker has made noise about wanting to go to Disneyland in California, so if we can find the budget for it, we'll probably do that (this trip is supposed to be "his" trip).
Coming, once again, to the Dis Dads for some advice. My high school 20-year reunion is coming up. Well, the class decides to do a cruise for the 20-year reunion. It's a small class (67 total graduates, 50 of which were the same K-12), so it's a fairly close group of people.
Anyway, the cruise has been scheduled for late July. My kids are 7 and 4 and even though nobody has come out and said it, it's pretty much going to be an adults-only cruise. I talked to my mom about keeping the kids for the 5 days we'll be gone and she said "You know I have no problem watching the boys." So, I made peace with the idea of leaving them behind with her while we go. Well, on Sunday, she tells my wife "If it were me, I wouldn't leave my 7 and 4-year old behind to go on a cruise. But that's just me."
Of course, she didn't tell me this, which makes me believe she really doesn't want me to go and was hoping my wife would be the one to talk me out of it.
I have serious problems leaving my kids for that long, first of all, so it was a tough decision to begin with. I felt a little more at ease when she said she'd be willing to watch them for us. Then she says this to my wife and now I know she'd rather us just not go.
I trust my parents to watch my kids, but I admit they're a handful (two young boys normally are) and I'd worry that five days away from us would be too much. At the same time, as my best friend told me, your 20-year reunion cruise only comes around once in a lifetime.
So, what say you Dis Dads? Put yourselves in my shoes, hypothetically. Would you be OK with leaving your kids for five days? Am I being selfish for even considering leaving them for that long?
Any help is appreciated. If you feel better giving the advice through PM, that's fine. It might help keep the clutter down on the thread.

One of the best gifts you can give your kids is a strong marriage.
