So ok, it's time for a little FIL update. DW has been out in CA for nearly a week now. I believe I last mentioned that he was in a convalescent home, and they were looking at hospice care. His spirits were very, very low, and a kind of depression had set in. She told me the next day after arriving, that when she walked in the room, he just got such a large grin on his face, and tears came streaming down his face. He was so very happy to see her. My BIL said he hadn't smiled in weeks.

Last Friday they (DW, BIL, SIL & FIL) had a confab with the doctors discussing next steps, etc. They did choose in-home hospice care, and so he was sent home. He's back in his condo overlooking the ocean in San Clemente, and again, his sprits lifted greatly. Atmosphere and environment have definitely helped him on that front.

On the physical front, the cancer itself is in both lungs, his liver, kidneys, bones and back. The prognosis pretty much remains the same, just a matter of months. He is taking the chemo pill, but the doctors have said it will only treat the symptoms and help slow the spreading, it won't cure him.

He's happy, and eating again. (He barely ate anything in the hospital and convalescent home, and most just came back up again). He'd lost 55 pounds, but has now put on 4 again. The hospice folks brought in a hospital bed, and set it up in the living room - which has a direct ocean view. So DW said he sits there most of the day just enjoying the view. At night he actually sleeps in his own bed instead of the hospital one. The in-home workers will be coming 3x per week to help him with various personal issues, etc, and the service has folks (volunteers) who will come to the house and read to him, play games with him, do puzzles, sing, play instruments - you name it, they pretty much have it. The whole point is to make him comfortable and happy - as happy as possible, during the next weeks & months.

She is still scheduled to fly home this Saturday, unless something happens between now and then necessitating some kind of change. She's so thrilled to be out there with him, and while I'm exhausted, I'm so thrilled to have been able to get her out there too.

Ok, that's it for now - back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Chris thanks for the update on your FIL.

I'm glad your DW has had this time to spend with her father. I'm so sorry that his prognosis isn't a good one. I hope her being there brings him peace.

Checkout the app from Log Me In. It will allow you to log into your computer from your iPad and work off your computer's desktop as if you were using it

My team uses the LogMeIn Rescue app for remoting into customers desktops. I've had the free version loaded at home for a few years. Mom and Dad live 15 hours away so it is nice to be able to take over their PC instead of trying to walk them through stuff on the phone.

So ok, it's time for a little FIL update.

Thanks for the update Christopher, praying for comfort for him and your family as well.

First time Poster!

I am glad I found this thread. I look forward to participating on this thread in the future.

My DW and I have one DD(9) and we are all Disney fanatics. We are looking forward to two WDW trips before the end of the year.

Welcome!
Glad you found us. Emma's Dad will be around soon enough to give you your number.

Whereabouts in Indiana are you?

Wow guys - just 49 days ago we started thread 5...and here we are just a little over 100 pages away from needing to ready thread 6! :) We are such a chatty bunch.

We're from Terre Haute. Are you anywhere close?

Relatively speaking, sure, especially considering the distance to the Mouse... Indiana's small...we're not that far away... but actually not very. We're in Noblesville, just northeast of Indy.

I agree! I was thinking the same thing, but Tim beat me too it. I guess that what a nemesis is for, though. :confused3
A friendly competition may be enough motivation for some us (including me) to get back on the wagon.
Not all of us are on Facebook, so maybe we could set up a sub-thread over on the W.I.S.H. (We're Inspired to Stay Healthy) forum.

You asked for it, you got it!

Here is is fellow Dads - a Group W.I.S.H. Journal for DIS Dad's Club members.

Everyone's welcome. Share as much or as little as you're comfortable sharing, and we can try to motivate each other to ensure that we're healthy enough to continue enjoying and sharing Disney with our families for a long, long time to come!

Stopher: Thanks for the update on FIL. You guys will continue to be in our prayers. Although this had me thinking about the DDC discussion from the podcast the other day, this is more indicative of what it means to be a Dad/Husband than anything else. Knowing that it won't be easy to let her go, knowing that its the best thing for her, and pushing her out the door to see her father. :thumbsup2

On a semi-related note, since it is now 12:15 here, technically its our 9th anniversary. (and yes, 9 years ago we had a few "changes" to our wedding day due to current events at the time) I feel very lucky to have found the one woman (and there can be only one) that I just seem to be a perfect match for.

OK, so she may roll the occasional eye at my cheesy one-liners and bad puns, but I think she still loves me. :confused3

Still keeping your family in thoughts and prayers. Good to hear that his spirits are at least lifted. Has to be so much better being at home rather than in a hospital or convalescent center.

Thanks for the udate,we will still be praying for him and the family.

DDC is just one big family so this is our regularly scheduled program.

Hey Coach, where do you coach?

I coach at a local High School here in Louisiana.

I also do personal training on the side. I've had as many as 8 clients at one time.. most of my clients have had tremendous success.

My current two clients (only kept two due to football season- with 6 on a waiting list), have both lost well over 30 lbs.. and about 8-10% body fat since we started several months ago.

One is closing in on the 40 lbs mark ;)

I would be happy to answer any fitness/weight loss questions if you guys have any. I personally have lost 100 lbs as of a few years ago, and have managed to keep it off :goodvibes

Thanks for the update, Christopher. Glad your wife is bringing some sunshine to your FIL.

If she's like my wife, she loves you because of the cheesy one-liners and bad puns.

Ok, I can't say that with a straight face. But hey, she's stuck with you now. Congratulations on 9 years!:thumbsup2

CRAP!! Some idiot called a bomb threat in to my office building. So now I'm sitting in a coffee shop a few blocks away, trying to get some work done on my iPad. But I've got two motions to get filed today, and most of what I need to get them drafted is on my desk in my office.

Oh, and it's raining. Hard. Walking back out to my car from the coffee shop is going to suck, because I was too stupid to grab my umbrella when I got to the coffee shop. DOH!

Can I just leave for Disney World now? Pretty please?
