Christopher, hopefully if they can relieve some of the pain he will want to fight a bit more. Keeping you guys in my prayers:grouphug:

Thanks all! Sorry to be such a downer, but I knew it would be ok to share a bit and have the support. I appreciate it. You guys are great.

On a cheerier note, Mrs. AJRitz took the kids to the Missouri State Fair yesterday. Scaredy Cat Squeaker is finally warming up to amusement park rides! His favorite was The Bumblebees - a Dumbo-like ride that he said he liked because it went up high

Maybe he'll actually enjoy some rides at Disney after all!
Great! First Ride: Tower of Terror!

I know you guys were talking about it earlier.. my wife was really bummed about the free dining for all (except us with DVC) announcement.
Same in my house. Every time free dining is announced, DW starts thinking about paying cash for a hotel room/ticket package to get the free food. I have to remind her - they may be getting free dining, but we have free accommodations. (Yes, I realize it's not "free", more like "pre-paid", but however you look at it, we have a hotel room that we don't have to factor into any budget for a trip to Disney World)

Christopher, praying for your situation. It is never easy to see one's relations get older and sicker, and even more difficult when they are far away.

Don't worry, guys. Free dining is overrated, awful, and a pain in the butt.

And by "overrated, awful, and a pain in the butt", I of course mean "wonderful, fantastic, and a glorious affirmation of all that is good in life." :rotfl2:

Tonight we are debuting our 'drive in' theater. We are having our neighbors and our friends come over to watch a movie in our backyard. I have a 6'X8' screen that we will be projecting the movie onto. We were going to show a Disney movie that hasn't been released yet but it just didn't work out. So since we will have a mix of boys & girls of all different ages (1-10yrs old plus their YOUNG parents!) I have narrowed it down to a few movies:

  1. Lilo & Stitch
  2. UP
  3. Lion King
  4. Cars
  5. Monsters INC
  6. Aladdan

Anyone else have any suggestions?

I will also take a few pics to show you guys! :thumbsup2

With Young parents I would go with Aladdan. Nice love story, and Robin Williams is great.

Or since you are outdoors you can go with A Bugs Life.

I know this is discussed on countless threads here but I thought I'd try for some DisDad perspective.

In the past I have carried a small one shoulder backpack my daughter got at a cheer competition (it's a nice navy blue and has no flowers or anything if you must know.) It has worked great but is getting a little worn. Also it has only the main compartment, a front flap pocket and a small phone pocket on the strap(which I love.) I am looking for something similar but with maybe a little more organization potential, also slightly larger. The strap is a little tight across my manly shoulders (that's my story and I'm sticking with it!)

I ordered a Baggallini from Amazon after everyone on the board raved about it but it isn't going to work. First it's too small (I like to carry a towel, ponchos and a couple water bottles, sometimes we have our swim suits if we have been to the waterparks) and second it looks WAY too much like a man purse. I've worn shirts with pink Tinkerbelles on them for my daughter but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Anyone have a bag they like that they could recommend?

Thanks

Ok Dads....Tell me if I overstepped my bounds here....I sent an E-mail to Michigan International Speedway about the horrible rendition of the national anthem for the NASCAR race on Sunday...this is what I wrote....

To whom it may concern:

I am writing this letter to inform you of my displeasure for the person that was selected to sing the National Anthem at the recent NASCAR race held on August 15, 2010. How are the singers selected? Is there no screening process? This individual was hardly able to get through the song and sounded as though he was intoxicated while he was singing. It was totally disrespectful. It is a song meant to be sang with the highest respect and regard for our nation and the troops who are putting their lives on the line daily so that we and others can live in freedom. It was not sung in the manner today. I hope that in the future you will have higher standards in the selection of singers to perform our national anthem.

Thank You

and this is what I got in return.....

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry we disappointed you and did not meet your expectations with the National Anthem.

Jared Weeks, the lead singer for the band, Saving Abel, has previously performed the Anthem at a NASCAR Sprint Cup Se...ries event and received rave reviews. He and the band had performed a free concert for our fans the night before and prior to that, had played two consecutive nights. In hindsight, his voice was shot and he was not up to his normal standards. He, perhaps, should have bowed out, but the reality is that he was so very excited to sing the Anthem that he felt like he could muster the strength.

As bad as I feel that we disappointed you, I have to say that I am just as disappointed that you imply MIS and Jared are somehow unpatriotic or don’t love our country. Mistakes happen. That does not mean that they were intentional. In fact, if you research Saving Abel (Google Saving Abel Iraq Tour), you will find that their new CD was written after they toured Iraq and Afghanistan, visiting with US troops. The CD is a tribute to the soldiers.

I will also point out, that MIS became the third largest city in the State of Michigan yesterday with over 100,000 guests who had a wonderful and a safe experience and enjoyed a great race. There are so very many moving parts and pieces that can go wrong during an event of this magnitude, many of which could be far more serious than a young man who loves his country, to have missed your, and perhaps his own, expectation of the Anthem.

I have never claimed that MIS is perfect and I will reiterate that even though we bust our tails everyday to try and be so for our fans, we never will be. So please accept our apology, but with that said, I think that this incident needs to be put into perspective.

Thanks,

Roger Curtis

Well my thought is that as president of the speedway he can't be busting his butt too hard to make sure things are going right if he has time to personally answer e-mails. With attitude no less. As to you overstepping I can't say cuz I didn't hear how bad it was. I will say it didn't sound like you accused anyone of being unpatriotic, just disrespectful.

No one seems to be allowed an opinion anymore. If you have one you are, or are accusing someone of being, "unpatriotic" or "racist" or just plain "rude."

Maybe the guy did have a bad day and just pushed himself too hard. If so he should be called on it or at least made aware. In the immortal words of Dirty Harry "A man's got to know his limitations."
