Thanks. I showed this post to the DW, and she said a case of Mickey Mouse crispy treats is a good souvineir. DxDDP it is!

I shared by thoughts with DW and she laughed at me. We are doing DxDDP when we go back in October. She said I could just stop eating - but the food is right there on the plate.

We are still more than 8 weeks from getting down to the World and DW and I have already had our first "discussion" regarding some of the rides. DW loves most rides but there are 2 she will not ride the Teacups and Mission Space. I told her I was going to Poll you Dad's out there and try and get a ruling. What do you think and have any of you had experience taking your Kids on MS? Let me know and Thanks!

My oldest dd (8) is a puker (even has puked on the bus ride to the theme park) and said she felt sick, but did not get sick on the easy side on MS, but did not like it. I have not forced my dds (8,6) on any rides, but I bribed them with those Disney spray bottles this year. They rode EE, were scared, but did not get sick.

Well alright, I am 39 days and counting from our family trip to DW!!!! I'm still debating on whether or not to get the disney dining plan. Is it truely worth it? I've made reservations already for a few restuarants (T-rex, Mickey's Buffet, and at POR)

With those reservations, T-rex is not covered on the DDP. So, that would be an OOP meal. When it comes to the dining plan, if you add up each item a la carte vs the total cost of the dining plan, the dining plan will always be cheaper. However, that would be that you plan to eat all that food. For example, you get a desert for each QS meal. I rarely eat desert after a meal. But, since you already paid for it ... Overall, my recommendation on DP or anything else at Disney is, if you are concerned about saving money, then don't go to WDW. Just enjoy it. DW likes the DP and this year DxDDP, because we paid an amount, planned where we were going, and they she did not feel guilty about the item cost on the menu.

DW loves most rides but there are 2 she will not ride the Teacups and Mission Space. I had mentioned to her that I was looking forward to DS10 being able to go on more rides with me this time since last time we went he was only 7. DW stated in no uncertain terms that she would be glad also but she wanted me to promise not to take him on the Orange side of Mission Space.

You’ve probably already heard enough on this, but I’ll toss in our experience with Mission Space. My DS and I first rode the beast in 2004(he was 9 at the time). My wife wasn’t so sure about it and let us go test it out first. Myself: I don’t much care for freefalls, but this thing is all about speed and force and from the get go we thought it was one of the greatest rides we’d ever been on. We reported back that it really wasn’t all that bad, she got on and was uncomfortable almost as soon as they closed to door to the capsule. She survived, but won’t ride it again. It doesn’t bother her a bit that we get on the thing (and we’ve done so more time then I can count), but it ain’t for her. The problem is that she is more susceptible to motion sickness then either me or the boy, and it’s those folks the have the most trouble with MS (she doesn’t like “Star Tours” either). The best strategy is to keep your head flat against the headrest. That helps defray a most of the balance and inner ear disorientation problems.

Now as for all the “negative experiences” on the boards: scared, angry, and/or offended people are far more likely to raise a ruckus, but you will rarely hear form the folks that just enjoyed the experience. If you like motion simulators, then you’ll have no problem with the green side. If you can deal with the launch on the Rock-N-Rollercoaster, you can probably also deal with the orange side of MS. The only difference between the two sides is the added G-forces (which max out at around 2.5 G’s).

Disney’s point of view on all of this is spelled out clearly in the queue lines and during the preshow: “This ride may cause nausea, headache, dizziness or disorientation, and people prone to motion sickness, or who have a headache or an inner ear problem, or who have a history of migraines, vertigo or elevated anxiety should not ride.”

Of course they also say nearly the exact same thing about Soarin' (another ride I just can’t get enough of).

I’d like to toss out a big ol’ thanks for all the thoughts on Washington DC. There’s some good info in there and we’ll be using big chunks of it. :thumbsup2

Here’s our basic plan. We’re staying in Alexandria, fairly near a Metro and there is a shuttle to the station (not to mention I’ve already got passes for the Metro), so that will solve a lot of transportation problems. The museums will be the easy part (except for the walking). We did get a hold of one of our reps in Congress and have a tour of the Capitol in the works, and we got advanced tickets to the National Archives. We tried for passes for the Washington Monument, but the earliest times available on the web were already out to late July (I’ll have to start earlier if we go again). We’re definitely going try out the Monuments by Moonlight tour (that should be a very different perspective) and certainly plan to spend time at Arlington. Another suggestion you gave us that we’ve added to the itinerary is the National Cathedral (something that hadn’t originally occurred to us). If we go to the national zoo, we’ll remember to get off at the top of the hill rather then at the “zoo exit” (thanks trennr, and thanks for the report on your trip out that way). We also learned that you can take a picnic lunch into the park as well which we may just try to do. I’d like to see the Udvar-Hazy but Dulles will actually be out of our way (we’ll see). Mt Vernon, however, is on our way in and out of the area, so we may just try to toss that into the mix.

Well that’s the plan. I’ll try to take a some pictures and post a few when we get back (if y’all are interested). Thanks again for the help.

Hey guys! I'm back, 9 1/2 hours door to door this morning.

Survived the Everest Challenge at Animal Kingdom, I'll start on a trip report in the next day or two but the whole trip other than the night of the race was a blur so it should be fun trying to piece something together, lots of pictures though so that'll help. It was hot, really HOT, night of the race it was in the 90's with about 90% humidity but it was worth it to get to ride Kali Rapids at 1:00 in the morning!

Well here's the thing. I've made reservations already for a few restuarants (T-rex, Mickey's Buffet, and at POR) But those are really probably the only times we'll have a table service meal. BTY, who enjoys the boardwalk? I'm thinking about going there one of the nights to check it out.
The Boardwalk is pretty neat. Several street entertainers and an overall nicely themed area to walk around a spend an evening at. And it's free.:thumbsup2

Well that’s the plan. I’ll try to take a some pictures and post a few when we get back (if y’all are interested). Thanks again for the help.
Have a great trip, and yes, pictures would be really cool.

Mission space: I've done both sides. DW is highly prone to motion sickness and won't go on orange after we did it once. Love the G's that you pull going around the moon on the orange, though. We usually stick with green. Our kids mouth a little bit about it, but they get over it real quick.

Headed out tomorrow night. Have our breakfast bacon in the pan as I type. We fry it before we leave, then put it in aluminum foil and warm it on the toaster while we are warming our bagles for breakfast. Worked like a charm last time, with the exception that we warped the plastic on the top of our toaster :rotfl: Moral of the story? Don't warm bacon on top of a plastic toaster. Get a metal one .

I'll be taking a laptop for this trip, so I can, um, get some work done while we're taking a break from the parks :rolleyes1. I'll also make sure that DW remembers the camera. She forgot it on our impromtu spring break trip. Know it's gonna be hot, but we've been getting in shape by having to watch DS baseball games in the mid day head for the past couple of weeks, so we feel ready for the heat (yeah right). Ya'll have a great week.

Hey guys, i hope that this link works. Last night the DA of our County presented us a check to replace our Police K9 officcer that recently passed away of cancer. He was a great assest to our communtiy and is missed very much. The money came from the drug forfiture money from the arrests in the county. I am at the end of the video briefly. I am the guy with the light green shirt.

Have fun, it really is a cool place.....

Kevin,

How's the Baby doing?

Kevin,

How's the Baby doing?

Gabe is doing great. He is getting bigger and bigger every day. He is over 18lbs and is beginning to look like the Michelin Man with all his rolls. He is a very happy baby and is content watching the chaos going on around him in the house.

How are things going for you. I saw in some of your earlier posts you were having problems with you AC. Hopefully that is fixed and you are able to be at least a little comfortable. Heres hoping that the next 90 some days go by quick. Stay safe!

Less the 24 hours till VACATION!!!!!!!

I bet he is having fun with all the "goings on"...what with brothers and all that:lmao::lmao:

All is well here, A/C got worked out...seems they didn't put strong enough cable or breakers in this building and it's had problems for years--well, until I came along and started screaming at people:rotfl2: Have not had trouble since....

I think I'm what, like 91 days out or something....too eary to start looking too far forward, but long enough into to think about it

Mike: I can't believe it...
Sulley: Oh, Mike...
Mike: I was on TV. Ha. Did you see me? I'm a natural.

That is awesome that you're getting a new police dog. And even awesomer (it's a word now) that drug dealers are paying for it! :thumbsup2

I love to watch Free WDW DVDs. I would like to go to that place. :D

Welcome! You are member # 468!:thumbsup2

Is there enough room in this pool for another “wide body”? Any group that chooses my patron saint and roll model as their leader and mentor is an organization I’d like to be part of. My name is Rob and I do believe that I can qualify as a somewhat Disney obsessed person (from an entire household of Disney obsessed folks).

Details:
- happily married (no… really… I actually am happy about it )
- dad of one surprising good natured teenager (although he is starting down the dark path toward moodiness :sad2:)
- ethnically, I’m a natural born Hillbilly (but I’ve been in South Carolina so long that I’ve been accepted as a “south’ner” :rolleyes1)
- food lover (which explains the “wide body” :crazy2:)
- aficionado of Monty Python, Mel Brooks and the Marx Brothers (which seems to be a helpful attribute around here :upsidedow)
- general “sports failure” (we can’t all be perfect ;))
and unabashed lover of nearly all things Disney :thumbsup2.

Our forum name is a direct “goofy-ization” of a line from the movie Forrest Gump.
(“Run Forrest… Run…”)

Thanks for letting me blather on…

Hi, Rob! Sounds like you are fitting in just fine with the guys. You are member # 469! :thumbsup2

Sign me up...

I have been here for awhile, can't believe I just found this group.:cool1:

Father of 3, happily married, last trip in 2008, hoping to surprise the kids this December...:yay:

I would go to WDW every 6 months if I could...
Find myself on Disboards at work far too often...

Originally from Central New York (CNY) so CNYGuy seemed to fit. I've used it on other sites and it's pretty basic but easy to remember...

Glad you found us! You are member # 470! :thumbsup2

Hello Disney Dads. My wife and I are going July 18th to Disney for our first anniversary. Now while I am not a dad with kids, we have 3 cats and a dog, which are our 'kids'. One of our cats is named for Simba from the Lion King.

I fit into many of the categories. I get really excited when I see the characters. Last time we went (2008), I ran to see Chip and Dale, Peter Pan, Smee and Captain Hook and waited for Woody and Jessie by Splash Mountain.

When I went to Peter Pan, I asked him where his shadow was and without missing a beat, he (She) said the soap was holding it on great right now. And I said Tick Tock to Captain Hook, and he put his hook up to my throat.

I can't wait and wonder what characters I can play around with this time. Pluto I had sit before.

And my name is just my name surrounding my birthday (march 14).

Nice character interactions! Welcome! You are member # 471! :thumbsup2

Hi All
I am new to the DISboards as well as to your thread. My DW has been on the boards for a while but she just told me about them last week. DW loves WDW almost as much as I do.

I am the Father of 2 Boys 8 and 10 and have been married for 14 years. We have been on only 4 trips to Disney but our next one is in 59 days!:goodvibes

As my user name implies we live in Michigan but are always trying to figure out how we could move to Orlando to get the in in-state WDW discount.:rotfl2:

Just 1 last thing to establish my level of WDW Passion/Insanity. When my wife and I went out on our 1st date while talking about many things we ended up on the subject of vacations and DW mentioned that she really enjoyed Disney. I told her how much I loved WDW and that I planned on taking my Honeymoon there someday! She replied that was her dream as well and 14 months later that was exactly what we did!

Thanks for establishing this board I am looking forward to reading all the post.

Happy to have you here! You are member # 472! :thumbsup2

THe person who posted about what to do in DC, it looked like he had a teenage son by his signature (I think...)

Anyway, check this out: http://www.spymuseum.org/operationspy/index.php

Operation Spy is a thing they do at the International Spy Museum. Some of the Boy Scouts I know went thru this, and said it was the msot awesome part of their DC trip. It does require reservations though. But it's supposed tob e awesome.

Thanks for the suggestion! You are member # 473! :thumbsup2

Whew! That was a lot of dads to add at one time!

:welcome: WELCOME TO THE DIS DAD'S CLUB! :welcome:

You have been added to the DIS Dad's Club list :thumbsup2

-You find and download on iTunes backround music from your favorite resort.
-You walk into any air conditioned space on a Hot Summer day and quietly murmur "ahhhhh, gift shop" under your breath!
-You DVR every special on any channel which has to do with WDW, DCL or Disneyland and then put it on when you or your DW have had a rough day.

Added to page 1!

I had the QSDP last year and felt I "saved" money vs paying at the counter.

This way you don't have to "plan" any meals...you just eat when you get hungry at a counter service location. There are good options at each park.

You get 2 Counter Service Credits and 2 Snack Credits per person per night of your stay...plus everyone gets a refillable mug...which was handy.

I have free dining this year and got the standard DDP...which I'm excited to try...but not too thrilled about having to be a location X at a certain time to eat at a table service location.

I liked the freedom of the QSDP...and will probably do that when I'm paying for it. :thumbsup2

I agree with Nathan... we've done the QSDP for the last 2 years and has worked out well. You're not tied down to a specific time and place... but there are times when it would have been nice to have a someone serve a meal.

It's been a while since I've been on the boards... lot's a new dads joining and many posts to get through. We keep up this pace and we'll be seeing DDCV soon enough! :cool1: Welcome again to all the new dads!

So I find myself in a predicament this week. There's only 11 days left until our family visits Niagara Falls for the first time. Unfortunately, our passport cards have not arrived yet. It's been 4 weeks since we sent off the paperwork... and we did not pay the extra $120 to have them expedited. Getting nervous about it since our accommodations are on the Canadian side of the falls. We've called the status line... but now they want $75 a person to expedite the process :confused3 Guess I'm riding this out another day and see what happens. Most other people I've talked to who did not expedite the process had their cards back within 2 weeks. I'm guessing this is just my luck for the year I'm having with vacations. :rotfl2:

As for the TR... I'm slowly getting started with it. I'm not posting anything until I get a good head start. Well... at least a day or two!

Hey DIS Dad's,
