Were those in B&W? :rotfl2: I think I was in diapers when they were on TV :confused3

All joking aside, when I moved to South Dakota in '86, went from 50 to 3 channels, 4 if the weather was good, no A/C, yeah, rotary dial corded phone (Funny when my kids first saw a corded phone - wondering what it was / how it worked)... Pool to no pool, Puter to no puter. Sure was a change in lifestyle for few years, but thinking back on it, I don't think it really mattered.

Oh yeah... didn't have cable until after I joined the Navy! I vaguely remember Hogans Heros. We had one of those "automatic" antennas on the roof... the kind where there was a dial in the house and when you turned the dial it would rotate the antenna. I thought it was pretty cool!
My DD has not seen a rotary phone yet... But I would imagine she would have that same response!! (how do you take the phone into the bathroom?) :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I remember all of those shows, but thanks to Peter Pan Syndrome, I'm still not old!!! :cool1: Dial phones??? I remember party lines.....and when they came and installed our first A/C. Until then we only had central heat and used fans in the windows. Of course, in those days you could leave your doors unlocked and didn't give it a second thought!
We had one window A/C growing up, and it was in my parent's room. When it go hot, my brother and i would sleep out on the screen porch. When it got really hot, all four of us slept in their room.

Man, that must have been one looong wire to reach the ship. :lmao:

Okay, so how's this for a Saturday:

Got a great 6 miles in this morning and got the grass cut right after lunch. Then, DW and DD go one way and DS and I go another (dance competition and a soccer game in different towns). So, we're texting back and forth about the soccer score and DW says "wouldn't it be great if we were at Disney now?" I say "yes, and the score is 3-1 at the half." Well, both events end within 2 minutes of each other and we agree to meet in the middle for supper as a family instead of each group doing their own thing for supper. Nothing else was mentioned about Disney; we were enjoying each others company and talking about the game and dance competition. We finish supper and drive home (about 30 minutes) and I find myself in DS bedroom working on some shelves. DW comes in the room with the "sheepish grin" on her face (ya'll know this smile; it's the I've just done something smile). She proceeds to tell me that she has been pricing Disney vacations for a few days over spring break. I say "oh yeah, how much?" She tells me the cost (surprisingly low for 4 nights on property, or so I thought; we already have annual passes). Well, long story short, WE'RE THERE, APRIL 4TH THRU 8TH. Crazy stuff, but after thinking about what we had originally planned, the $$ involved was less going to Disney than our original plans, so we said what the heck.

Yeah, it's short notice and yeah, crowds will suck, and yeah, I know a TR will be expected, but geez, why pass it up?? :woohoo:

So, everyone's pumped at our house, and that's a good thing.

Great story! Sometimes the best things are those that are not planned. Have a super time...

Growing up in Ohio I don't remember much need for the A/C. Never had A/C in our house... but did have fans in the windows.

:lmao::lmao: You should have seen the ones for the submarines!! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

My two year old LOVES IASW....therefore, I grudgingly road it about 7 times on our last trip.....

I still wake myself up screaming:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

My kids actually know I hate it, so part of the appeal of riding it for them is making fun of me for having to endure it. So they're learning to laugh at others' misfortune. I'm teaching them well! :thumbsup2

I'm with you...

I can watch my DD eyes light up on IASM. It will probably be only a few more years I can do this before she is 'too cool' to ride it. :goodvibes

Last 3 trips when DS was just under 3, just over 3, and 4 we averaged just over 16 rides on IASW per trip. I use the time to either:
1. Try to look really close at areas to see all the little details.
2. Watch DS's reactions and whatever seems to have caught his eye.
3. Completely zone out and use the time to reset my brain.
4. Clean the camera lenses
5. If the boat has anyone who looks really ticked off to be there, annoy them more by swaying back and forth to the music and singing along. Repeatedly saying "Isn't this amazing?" seems to work too (of course being 6'8 gives me a little more room to annoy people and not get attacked).

We didn't have rabbit ears but we did have a rotary antenna so if you wanted to switch from ABC to NBC you had to turn the dial on the TV and on the antenna box and wait for the signal to come in.

I remember my brother trying to explain to me the opening credits for F Troop were filmed once and played over each episode because I was quite upset that the same tower got knocked over by the cannon in the opening credits each week.

That's nothing. A friend of mine never had cable until he joined the Air Force...
