Oh man, is EVERYONE doing performance reviews now???

I hate our new system (which is being scrapped)...it screwed a lot of guys and was the worst case of "taking care of the insiders" I've ever seen...

Thank God it was only one year....and yes, the same thing. Everyone is a "Valued Employee" no matter what they did, and no one (except the brass of course) got higher rankings---really disgusting...

So here's a link to the LIVE thread I just began... I will NOT hijack this thread again - so if you want to see our exploits here in Florida, you'll have to go to the other thread this time around :)

stopher's LIVE "Triple Whammy" Report - THV/AKV/VWL

I'll try to update it again tomorrow night. later dudes.

Woohoo! Sub'd! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I don't think teaching in Neverland would be a good gig, those kids seem to have some pretty big ADD issues.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Oh! Look! Shiny thing....... :hyper2:

We have quarterly reviews. They are a very painful experience. They are asking questions during the review like "Do you feel you live a balanced life?", "What book are you currently reading?".

What kind of questions are these for a review? Is my life balanced? My answer "No I think that you should pay me more and let me work less so I have more time to go fishing. That would balance my life a lot better."

What book am I currently reading? "The last book I read was Smiley Shark." While it was entertaining I doubt that I was the target audience. However if I had a choice between reading that book again or the greatest novel of all time...I would pick Smiley Shark because that laughter of a 3 yo is a lot better then any novel!

Sorry had to vent!

:banana:Back to the fun Kevin:banana:

It's even more fun writing them when you know it won't mean anything as far as their pay. We're on the same ranking method (5 reserved for "the chosen one"). I spent 3 weeks honestly ranking each member of my team (23 people) according to where they fall on about 30 reports and HR grading scales only to be told "you have too many people at 4's, make some of them 3's and 2's to balance it out.".

Sounds like the same system we have here. I like it when I see the review... for areas of improvement... nothing is in there... yet I still only get a 4? If I'm doing a great job, and there is nothing more I can improve on, why is my performance still only a 4? I could save the company $10 mil and would still get a 4 :confused3
I'm with you, Nate... I just don't get it.

I've heard that HR likes a balance around 3...being in our system there is no 1... and 5 "Exceeds Expectaions"... is unattainable...

My boss just inherited 3 new heads bringing his total to 10...he spends weeks doing PM. He probably hates it about as much as we do. You can tell when it going on as we never see him. They also have "Round Tables" and "Peer Reviews" of everyone on site...for that final grade. I'm certain thats a hoot to attend.

Best I can do is a 4 "Occasionaly Exceeds Expetations"...you have to really be a screw off (or be a lead organizer on a DIS Thread :rolleyes1) for a 2 "Need Improvment"...and 3 means "Meets Expectations"

We get graded on about 5-6 categories...each with multiple "goals"...and you can get a "5" here even 2 or 3 of them...but when its all averaged and Truncated (not Rounded) a 4.5-4.9 is still a 4.

My grip is not really with the system...just that it seems "easier" to get that "4" when there's not any money.

FY08 we had Money...did pretty much the same job...got a 3.

This year our whole site releases a new product line...so 4's are flying around like nobody's business...but guess what the economy is in the can...so we get a pat on the back, a 4, and a kick in the @$$. :lmao:

Sounds very similar to the system we have at the car company I work at. Of course we have been bought and sold, through Bankruptcy and given away, so of course there is no money. I actually got a "5 - Role Model" for 2008 but that was about all of the recognition I got. This year though I really think they shoved some people into the lower ranks (1)'s with Needs Development specifically so they can fire some people and bring in people at a cheaper wage. :sad2:

Did you ever notice that most of people that do the reviews, are the biggest Dr Do Nothings and butt kissers going! Alot of them are book smart, but if they had to do the job they are reviewing they could not do to save thier life!

I'm lucky it that respect - my boss knows my job, knows the projects I work on, and respects how easy or difficult each one is. My issue this year is that the Director of our area retired and we were folded in under another director. He met with our management to go over the scores (our point scale goes from 2-6. It used to go 1-7 but they decided that if you were a 1, you should be fired anyway, and a 7 would only be attainable if you can turn water into wine). Anyway, the new guy was looking over the scores, and gave our managers instructions to lower the scores to bring them more in line with that the rest of the company is getting.
So I guess I'm in the opposite boat that trennr is in - I'm getting lower scores, but it still doesn't matter because no one's get merit raises anyway!

Hey now, I'm the reviewer for my guys..but I do it right:thumbsup2:rotfl2::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Our "Executive Leadership" is the main issue:confused3

BTW...I had my Review back in Oct as our company runs Oct-Sept in Fiscal Years...they just didn't have $ number to show us like they usually do.

I did get a raise...but just enough to cover my increase in insurance cost.

Not to mention...have you look at the new tax code for 2010. Everyone's taxes are going up.

For example say your married and after exemptions your Taxable income was $14000 on 09...and is the same this year.

In 09 you owed $0 in income taxes
in 2010...10%...that $1400

Guess I should stop looking at my paycheck now.

Grrr...don't get me started.

Here at the state, our "raises" are determined by the legislators writing the budget, so our performance reviews also mean exactly diddly and squat. I managed to get "Exceeds Expectations" a couple of years, but our "raises" the last 3 years were 0%, 0%, and -2.5%. That'll make you excited to get up in the morning! Never mind that our salaries are already well behind the private sector.

Anyway, enough bellyaching. It is a blessing to still be employed in this economy. They're talking about the possibility of layoffs this year, so hopefully I'll still be employed come summer!

Since I am now self employed, the evaluations are easy. My supervisor (me) gave me a 5 out of 5 this year. My supervisor’s supervisor (again me) agreed.

I always hated going through the evaluation process especially when I was the one judging. For the most part, they are BS and a waste of time. I usually let the people under my care evaluate themselves. They were actually harder than I would have been. If there was a problem, I would not wait until it was evaluation time. Same with pats on the back. Many a time I had words with HR. I was once even evaluated on my evaluating. That was a bizarre discussion.
