Yes, the diamond in my wedding set fell out! Amazingly enough I actually found it, lying on the kitchen floor in front of the rug that is in front of the refrigerator!! I just can't believe I found it!! The angels were looking out for me!! Now, just to get it put back in! Wonder how much that'll cost...gosh, my finger feels so naked without my wedding rings!!! :worried:

cost me almost 400 to have my platinum setting re-done. (it was a bent prong...then the jeweler realized he couldn't just fix the prong, he had to re-inforce the whole setting.)

I sucked it up and paid it...no, DH wouldn't pay for it.

I know what you mean about not having your rings on!!! Hope it doesn't cost to much for ya!!!

One of the diamonds in my wedding band came loose once. I just took it back to the jeweler where it was bought and they fixed it for free. I'm not sure if that's usual policy though.

I'm not even sure the jewelry store where DH bought the set is still in business. He bought it 29 years ago. I'm afraid it's going to cost more than what the rings originally cost to have the diamond put back in, because I'm sure a prong or two will have to be fixed/replaced as well. Hmmmm, maybe now's the time to hint for a new ring!!

Congratulations on finding your diamond!!

How scary. I'm glad you found it. I hit my ring on the corner of a crystal candy dish once and the diamond fell out into the jar. I was sorting through candy and sugar crystals for a while.

I was told that prongs should be checked periodically. Who'dda thunk?

I lost mine once when I was playing on the couch with my niece. The prong caught on the cushion. Luckily we found the stone. The jeweler placed it back into a much safer setting which is much lower than the first. It is not as beautiful as it once was, but at least it is safer.

My SIL had a $5,000 anniversary band and lost it while trying on clothes at the mall. She never found it, so her DH bought her a $10,000 one.

I am so glad that you found your stone. I have my settings checked every three months when I take my rings in for cleaning. There were a couple of times that the stones were loose and I caught it just in time.

my diamond was lost for quite a while. This was 14 years ago and I had a 2 year old at the time. I begged him to tell me if he took it but to no avail. About 6 months later I was in my attic and there was an old lamp on the floor. Suddenly a flash of light kind of shot off of it. I went to the lamp and lo and behold it was my ring. The only explanation I could come up with was my son took it and stuck it in the lamp socket. I had not had a recent aprasial so all the insurance woudl give me was 1500.00
After that I got a cz for about 100.00 that looked exactly like my ring(tiffany setting). I wear my diamond for special occasions and the rest of the time I wear the cz. I have NO worries including wearing it on vacation in a mall or any place else something might happen. I am really tough on jewelry so I never have to worry about ruining it. I figure that I have my original wedding band so I am at leat half way there.

Just take it somewhere reputable...if you trust them. I hesitate because my Dad lost a diamond in his ring several years ago. Took it to the local jeweler in town where he lived. Had the diamond and gave it to the guy with the ring. The next day when he was at work, he noticed that it wasn't the diamond! He worked with various lights. I don't know if it was an ultra violet light or another type, but under the light it was a blue color as opposed to white like the other stones!!   Of course, he couldn't "prove" it so never persued anything. Be careful.

Some diamonds show blue flourescence under ultra violet light. It is perfectly natural and kinda cool.

But, if his old diamond didn't have blue flourescence, then they probably did switch his diamond with a lesser quality one.

Oh, and for those of you who have gold rings: Don't wear your rings in the swimming pool or if you are using chlorine bleach. Chlorine breaks down the alloys in gold and can weaken the ring making stones fall out. I think white gold is more susceptible to this than yellow gold.

Platinum is safe to wear in chlorine.

My parrot (a conure) plucked a small diamond out of my wedding ring. I never did find it! I guess he's a very valuable bird!!!:D

I'm glad you found your diamond! Get a new platnum head, don't just reprong it. You have to pay more, but worth it in the long end. If a platnum head is too much, do a white gold head, yellow gold is the softest. And try to go to a jeweler instead of a jewelry store (or a store with a jeweler in it). I worked for a wholesale jeweler for years, we did the work for the local jewelry stores, we'd charge our fee to them and they would mark it up 3 times what we charged! So if it was $50 to really do it, they would charge the customer $150! Good luck!!

Been there - done that!! Only I never found the stone! I was in tears when I discovered that the diamond was missing. My boys were little and I had filled their kiddie pool with water that day & then emptied it - it was probably somewhere in the backyard. The prongs were worn down! Lucky for me - DH replaced it with a beautiful Diamond Anniversary band!

I lost a diamond out of my wedding band awhile back. Thankfully, insurance covered the cost of a replacement. I'm so glad that I had that insurance!!!

My jeweler said to make sure to get the settings checked at least once a year. Good luck getting your ring fixed!:sunny:

I have my ring insured through jewery store and our home ins.

It's funny when we went to have ring insured at ins agent she was explaining terms to me and one thing she said was my diamond is covered even if dog eats it. Knowing my Husky he'd try.
